@@BelgianJasperI am waiting for my daughter to come visit today and we will listen to the album together, under the stars with headphones on. I downloaded all the lyrics as they are essential. We will read them before we listen to the album. From the comments I see what I hoped for. That this album is exceptional. I listened to the singles. I loved the Ocean of Strange Islands which at the end had me in trance. The outro was ingenius. The Day of is dark but it depicts quite accurately what is happening now. The Perfume of the Timeless, well all I can say…. it is very deep. Probably well depicted by the visuals of the diver :-) And, all I can say that I am grateful for the Nightwish guys and Floor being those children of a million loves. And all of us too. We all are connected, past present and future generations of all earthlings. From the lyrics I gathered that one song weaves into the other and there is also a wider web of subtle references to their past songs and music. They are all very thought evoking, awaking emotions, leading to introspection and well, the Lantern at the end to me is fulfilling the Hiraeth…. We follow Nightwish since 2012. My son introduced me to their music with Sleeping Sun. Since then, they are my favourite musicians. Sorry for the long reply but that’s how I feel :-)

I think the word Troy is trying to say at 6:15 is GROUNDBREAKING. Nightwish does what Nightwish wants. There doesn't need to be a whole nother EPIC album that hasn't been done before. I hear a lot of Human:||:Nature in Yesterwynde - and I loooove it.

Wonderful interview. I am really curious on how the new album sounds, havn`t heard any singles since I want to hear the album with "fresh" ears so to speak.
OMG you got Nightwish the day before the release of Yesterwynde ! ! Troy confirms what Tuomas said about their freedom in creativity (no matter in which subgenre the band is placed, no matter if it feels "metal enough" ). But let's bet Tuomas won't write an album about ice cream😉 I agree with you that Nightwish that headlines any festival, BUT I love them since 1998 and I must confess that I'm not as touched by their music anymore since Imaginaerum... Floor is a goddess as a singer, but the songs don't bring me as pleasure as before.
@@karinekmk9293 everyone can have their opinion and favorites, for me (funnily enough) I think Endless is their best album, but the last one was maybe their poorest... Tough to say in the end with a quality band like Nightwish 😉 and let's not give up hope for an Ice Cream album?? 😂
@@BelgianJasper my fav is Once, all their best songs (IMHO) are one this one. Finland is a cold country, so maybe Tuomas could write smg about the origin of ICE, without the cream ? 😂😂 P.S. : you asked me which song I'll show to the students this year. I ended up last year with the beginning of Perfume of the timeless (there are maths in there - des puissances de 2 - and a very powerful and heartwarming message at the end of the long written intro😎)

My daughter and i were at that show and we went into Harvey's restaurant and Kai and Jukka were sitting there having lunch. My ears perked when you said that. Cause it happened to us. Lol We were to chicken to bother them tho.
Hand waiving away the criticisms of the mix in a derogatory manner is kind of shitty. Yes it’s art and yes they can do what they want, but at the same time you have to listen to and accept criticism by the people who engage with that art. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with it. Personally, even with Apple Lossless I find it difficult to understand anything being sung regardless of what speaker or headphone setup I’m using. The guitar are also buried in mush. I’m not the only one who feels this way and is disappointed by it, so hearing him touch on it here like this kinda sucks. I’m looking forward to listening to the whole album tomorrow, though.
What hand wave did he do? He explained exactly why it sounds the way it does, just because you either didn't understand or didn't like the answer means it was a mere hand wave.
After listening to the new album, I have to say that as a long-time NW fan, I am extremely disappointed. I have been hearing for almost 10 years that NW has lost its way since the release of EFMB, but EFMB and Human Nature still had interesting songs. Why is NW no longer NW? Because Tuomas has fallen into a bad creative madness, like his character Thomas Whitman in the movie Imaginaerum. Because Troy has been integrated into the band and he takes up too much space (vocals and instruments), for me, he should have remained a session musician. Because Emppu has become a certified yes man who rests on his laurels, because Jukka Koskinen manages the feat of being even more transparent than Sami Vanska, the first bassist of NW. Because as good as he is, Kai doesn't have the presence of a Jukka Navalainen in concert. Tarja was a big loss for the band, Anette too, whatever we may think. Let's not forget that the latter signed two of NW's biggest masterpieces which are Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum. But the biggest loss for NW in the last three years is undoubtedly Marko. Finally, NW is no more, because it has become a "super band" in which we find two ex-Wintersun, an ex-After Forever / Revamp, a too big influence of the Auri project and two founders of NW who don't seem to understand what they're doing anymore! But if only that were all... The fans, and especially those who arrived at the time of Floor's induction as a permanent member, are incapable of constructive criticism or questioning. Listening to them, NW always makes beautiful music, in the beautiful and the exceptional! I'm sick of people like you who saw the Virgin the day before and who start teaching us what the Bible is the next day! You are despicable and you are tiring! You are so unobjective and so many "yes men / women" that you would buy shit stamped NW if it were possible because it is NW! Seriously guys! ? Seriously question yourselves! For me, Yesterwynde is the swan song of this group that should have questioned itself or should have stopped when there was still time. Understand that for me, writing these lines is hard because I have been listening to NW since my childhood, because I feel like I no longer recognize anything, because I feel like I have been lied to. Writing these lines is a real heartbreak, because NW was my number one band and it resonated deep in my heart, in my soul.
I disagree. I’ve also been a fan since I was a child and I’m now a full grown adult with a family. They have changed as bands do and as people do and some people don’t like change, that’s fine. Not everyone is going to like the trajectories they go on or the decisions they make, sometimes they might experiment with something and it might end up not being the greatest or whatever… but that’s what artists do. They are free, they explore, they do whatever the fuck they want and express themselves however the fuck they want and go on their journeys unafraid to create whatever comes. Some albums might be better than others thematically, others might be better musically, others lyrically and that’s also fine. It’s outrageous to expect otherwise. I also didn’t like everything about the album and there are some things I really like. It’s definitely not my favourite but I loved Endless Forms Most Beautiful, for example. Having nuanced opinions doesn’t mean people are yes men or women. There are also other fans that enjoy the music casually and don’t have the visceral reaction you are having to it, and that’s fine too. You are totally entitled to your opinion and I am sorry you feel let down… but they’re not there to fulfill your personal expectations or sometimes even all the personal expectations of every single member of the band (as work relationships need middle grounds). Just take what you like and leave the rest, it’s okay and it’s going to be alright. ❤
Did Troy ever heard about a band, called Blind Guardian??? NW is absolutely not the only band that uses the orchestra as an integrated part of the band. Won’t even talk that they don’t even do it that good in most of the cases. Adding an orchestra doesn’t automatically means that your song is orchestral, operatic or that it sounds good and the first 3 singles are perfect example for that. As for the mix, is he serious about that? What an ignorant dude to say that the fans are talking “bullshit”. It doesn’t matter if that’s your decision until almost everyone is able to notice it and dislike it. Orchestral music was created for hundred of years and no one was claiming about the sound, but all of a sudden NW has decided to add orchestra, sound bad and blame the fans for not being able to get it… The sound is muddy as fuck and even in the real operas the lead vocals and choirs can be perfectly heard + the orchestra as well… Apart of that, there should be louder and more silent moments - it’s called dynamics. What they did here is just a shitty wall of muddy sound where neither Floor, neither the orchestra or any choir could be heard… Won’t even mention the word “organic”, which is probably something too far away from him. NW are probably living is some alternate universe to say and believe in so many bulshit at the same time. Really disappointed, to be honest. New Nw is such a mess - they probably need to take a day off..
@@KiroProstoto you're right that in the end it's up to the listener to either like something it not. Seems like you do not and that's totally fine, but I hope you find this interview and others on the channel at least interesting 👊 and yes, I'm sure Troy is aware of Blind Guardian
I'm not sure why you quoted the world bullshit because, unless I missed it, I didn't hear him say that word. He said nonsense. He clearly explained that they see their music as being part of the orchestra and that Floor's voice was blended into the orchestra, so it was a purposeful choice, not poor mixing. He also said at the start that they don't make music for fan service, they build what they genuinely want to build. So they're not going to suddenly change the way they do things because a few people don't like it. If they did that, they would be making pop music. Personally, I also felt Floor's voice was a bit buried in some parts of one or two songs, but that just made me sit down and listen to it even more closely. The more you listen to the songs, the less muddy it sounds because your brain starts picking out more and more detail. But I also thought it was clear enough in the majority of the songs. Her voice will also shine when they do some of these live in the future. Perhaps it is you that needs to take a day off and stop listening to new NW if you don't like their music.
Justifying the mix by reference to opera is nonsense. The lead singers are supposed to be heard above the orchestra. If the voices are lost within the orchestra, the audience will not be happy and blame singers who lack the skill or size of voice or the conductor for causing the orchestra to play too loud. Some of the mixing decisions are questionable: I don't get putting Troy at the forefront on Sway - and Floor is right, there was no need for him there at all. This said, on first listen, I like the album more than I expected and I will give it its chance to grow on me further
Do not assert it like it's a fact. It's your reality. Definitely not mine. I'm vibing with all three singles and looking forward to tomorrow. P.s: Nice interview! Much love to Troy!
@@evanwayland if you vibe with that stuff, you are unable to destinguish good stuff from "meh stuff". The guitar sound is harsh (and forgotten such as in DDOf) , the voice is buried, the cymbals are too crispy, it seems all forced to be togheder . Use the ears.

@@BelgianJasper Yes, I will look into them when I can! And yeah, I don't blame you! They're great, too. A big influence to many.
What a brilliant interview ! Thank you Jasper and thank you Troy. I perceive Nightwish as an ingenious organism, ever evolving, transcending age, time, genre. They are authentic and remain true to themselves. Each member is a genius in him/herself. All I can say is thank you for your music, for sharing your art and your spirit with us. Bless you and wishing you all the very best on your journey.
@@BaroombieHealing I'm glad you love the interview, what do you think of the new album?

OMG you got Nightwish the day before the release of Yesterwynde ! ! Troy confirms what Tuomas said about their freedom in creativity (no matter in which subgenre the band is placed, no matter if it feels "metal enough" ). But let's bet Tuomas won't write an album about ice cream😉
I agree with you that Nightwish that headlines any festival, BUT I love them since 1998 and I must confess that I'm not as touched by their music anymore since Imaginaerum...

@@kimfabritiusdetengnagel2038 AI Ice Cream!? 🍨🤖
I predicted "2026" for tour resuming in early 2023.
🤘❤🫶❣️
With sadness I have to agree with most of what you said.
@@BelgianJasper interview is good🙌, just don’t like when someone is acting so ignorant and doesn’t care about the fans opinion ☹️
@KiroProstYou can't alone decide fan's opinion. In your holy hate please remember It is just and only your opinion , not common truth.😂
@@heikkimuttonen5288no hate, I’m also a NW fan, just not blindfolded like many out there ;)
I'm not sure why you quoted the world bullshit because, unless I missed it, I didn't hear him say that word.
Troy put me to sleep.....
Goodnight

The sound of the new album sucks. AOOSI Is the only good song release so far.
