The Carpenter’s Son (29:56) 9. (HOPE) Is Just Another Word With A Hole In It (37:42) NOTHING’s third full-length recording, Dance On The Blacktop, is the next chapter in the band’s tumultuous story and like its predecessors, pulls from all corners of life with a focus on the bleak and despairing. Captured by renowned producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile) at Dreamland Studio in Woodstock, NY, Dance On The Blacktop is a stirring collection of songs accentuating the band’s love for all sounds 90s from both sides of the pond; from alternative rock and shoegaze to the realms of pop and post-punk. Across the course of 45 minutes, NOTHING weave together nine tales of heightened confusion, anxiety, paranoia, depression and chronic pain juxtaposed against angelic yet apocalyptic, reverberating walls of shimmering sound. Dance On The Black Top is a fervent, emotional tour-de-force, the sound of a band at the peak of their individuality.
I clicked on this not really knowing what to expect and I'm a bit surprised seeing as I know Relapse Records release albums for really heavy bands (a few of which have become favourites of mine) but I'm not even half way through listening to this album and I'm absolutely loving it. Given me a new band to look out for!
i was given this album by one the record stores i shop in it was there promo copy and honestly i had never listened to it until now its not bad kind of wish i listened wen it was new XD
Alcest but they are on the "heavier" side of shoegaze, more of a post-metal influence. Autumn's Grey Solace as well, not heavy at all but very atmospheric and beautiful.
Hrmmm... really tried to like the LP, but I can't help myself finding it a bit bland. 😂 Though there wasn't any "bad" tracks (except The Carpenter's Son, my mind always wanders half-way), this LP isn't exactly thrilling to my ears, nor bring much new musical ideas/risks/strange quirks. Didn't get into it as much as I did with their two previous LPs Guilty of Everything/Tired of Tomorrow. Too bad 'coz they are progressing in many ways (lyrics, more attention to details...). Thankfully, I Hate the Flowers and (HOPE) are heartfelt and excellent.
If you want this band to make more music, buy the album. Music costs huge amounts of money to make, most bands/labels are in the red. They work hard to make art that shouldn't be free. People like you are responsible for the death of alternative music.
This album sounds like a cross between Balance And Composure's "The Things We Think We're Missing" and Turnover's "Peripheral Vision"..... though quite a bit heavier and with some Alcest thrown in. At any rate, I'm in love with how it sounds!
IMHO, instrumentals sounds quite good, somehow sludgy and/or post-hardcore , but vocals waste the all thing. Too poppy, too moaning. (also 17:43 sounds like Creep From RadioHead)
They hired John Agnello who is famous for producing albums by bands like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile. I guess this was supposed to be their big one but the production clearly didn’t work out so well. I guess the chemistry wasn’t as good as Will Yip and i’m pretty sure the band realized that so they went back to Will which knows better about Nothing. I think the whole lo-fi thing doesn’t match this band.

I hear all the shoe gaze and 90s influences but I definitely hear some Katatonia too. Which isn't a bad thing.
if you havent go back and listen to Nothing's older records they're equally great
What a incredibly beautiful shoegaze album! Great band!
Modern Classic.
best album of 2018 😍
Just seen an ad for this and I had to come listen to this
Best decision of your life
Nothing always puts out brilliant stuff and this is no different. Thank you for the upload!
One of the most important bands of our time.
zero day is crazy gud
Kinda digging it so far. And yes, I'm a total metalhead. Some of y'all don't have open minds for shit.
Why is Marilyn manson on the album cover
It's terrifying 😂
awesome project🙌🏻
This is the music I wish Smashing Pumpkins was still making. Sadly, they stopped doing that after Siamese Dream.
If you kids like this I recommend you check out The Stone Roses. This band obviously loves them.
I think they must've listened to Buzzcock's 'Ever fallen in Love'.. before they wrote "Hail on Palace Pier"
So good and so underrated.
This one grew on me
Im guessing they are fans of Smashing Pumpkins and Silversun Pickups.
...and the Catherine Wheel, and Slowdive, and....
My Bloody Valentine, and My Vitriol, and.......
but better
It reminds me of Jesus and Mary Chain
i was given this album by one the record stores i shop in it was there promo copy and honestly i had never listened to it until now its not bad kind of wish i listened wen it was new XD
When you mix Deftones + Radiohead. Love it ♥
I'm curious about the album cover as well. Any details?
I think it's th singer in drag, but not sure
It’s a mask
Well this definitely could have been released in the 90s, but I like it.
Smashing Pumpkins + Deftones = Dance On The Blacktop !
if any of you have any recommendations of more bands like this please let me know
Whirr
Which is your favorite album of theirs?
Alcest but they are on the "heavier" side of shoegaze, more of a post-metal influence. Autumn's Grey Solace as well, not heavy at all but very atmospheric and beautiful.
Sounds like My bloody Valentine
Catherine Wheel, 'Pumpkins, Deftones, even a little bit of Melvins or Dozer...a great blend of influence here.
Huge Slowdive vibes
yeah.. they don't really hide their influences th-cam.com/video/G6yB8V7h9gE/w-d-xo.html if you skip to about 40 seconds.

Most of this bands songs are pretty bland and do run together, sadly
What genre are this guys?
Vlad Mihalca shoegaze
Pretty much a rock band, with big shoegaze and 90's alt rock influences, and a pinch of metal/poppy hooks & arrangements.
Seems like Grunge/Noise-rock
It is also sounds like stoner doom as for me, try Windhand or Holy Mount
@@sludgeqx stoner doom? R u stupid? You obviusly know nothing about music. This is complete different type of music
This is fucking awesome
I'm here because of Silicon Valley you want to dance on the blacktop homie? Lol
a link for free download, please!!!

Surely you can spare a few dollars if you like it this much.
This album sounds like a cross between Balance And Composure's "The Things We Think We're Missing" and Turnover's "Peripheral Vision"..... though quite a bit heavier and with some Alcest thrown in. At any rate, I'm in love with how it sounds!
I noticed a bit of Alcest here, too. Maybe like HUM and Slowdive had a baby? lol
There's absolutely no way that Turnover or Balance and Composure influenced this band in the slightest. You should listen to some older music.
Katatonia in other version.
Us/We/Are should have been deleted from the tracklist..the rest is epic
IMHO, instrumentals sounds quite good, somehow sludgy and/or post-hardcore , but vocals waste the all thing. Too poppy, too moaning.
(also 17:43 sounds like Creep From RadioHead)
The poppy vocals on that kind of instrumentals is what makes this album a gem in my opinion.
#2021
Why is the production on this album soooo bad compared to the first two?

good music but awful cover art. that could be doing them a big disservice in terms of this being shared.
Nah. Both good.
Hilarious album cover.
They know their audience.
most generic shoegaze ever made
Not my cup of tea
It's definitely my cup of opium though
Zero Day is great. The rest of the album kinda sucks...
Boring!
It's shoegaze. There isn't supposed to be a lot going on.
What is this crap??
I want the Relapse of the old days back......
This is nothing.
Cry fucking baby. Don't like then don't listen. It isn't that hard to do.
old relapse is dead get over it
