    Nice video, the title had me sweating a little bit if I'm being honest.
    Let me respond to the questions/suggestions in order.
    - I do miss live streaming as well. I would like to get back into this and have been thinking of some ideas behind it. Long story short, live streaming takes a lot of time, and there are many other things that priority to running the channel but I do see a future in which we might be able to integrate that once again.
    - Getting more accurate price estimates has been a bit of a struggle for multiple reasons: The first reason is that we have noticed that our MOCs are literally changing the Bricklink market. The TIE fighters for example have nearly doubled in build cost since we released them. This is due to parts getting used up but also, and I think more so, because BrickLink stores are now following what we do more closely and buying out parts needed for our MOCs and charging higher prices. This really sux and we have some suggestions for BrickLink that might be able to prevent it, but the result currently is wildly fluting prices. Prices also fluctuate a lot depending on where you live. ALSO as if this wasn't complicated enough, there are some bad apples on the BL seller market that know how the algorithm works and will lure you into the auto-buy system with some below-market cost parts but then charge 10x market value on the rest. We have blacklisted a lot of stores that do this and when we check the box that says don't buy from blacklisted stores our auto-buy price can sometimes drop over $100 depending on what you're ordering. We were thinking about making some blacklists public but that enters a realm of attacking someone else's business which is a road I don't think we want to go down since we have to absolutely make sure we got things right. The GOOD NEWs is that Bricklink is working on shareable wanted lists that will hopefully allow us to import an auto updated price estimate.
    - Expert level builds are tough to explain to a potential customer. You mention the UCS Millenium Falcon as being an expert level build but I personally consider it to just be a BIG build with normal techniques. Marshal Banana who design the Shuttle Tydrium that we sell also made a custom Millenium Falcon that definitely uses techniques that are probably 10x more complicated than the official Lego set. So how do we explain that? I'm actually open to suggestions. "Super expert", "really really hard"? None the less it's helpful to understand that the models are much more difficult than you expected so we need to figure out a way to convey that to potential customers.
    - Lego reviews are something we want to do more. Again it's kind of like the streaming thing, it has to do with how much time we have but also the recent studio move and COVID related changes have changed what we can get done in a day. That being said we are actually working toward getting more sets to review so hopefully you will see that content return soon. Glad you enjoyed them!
    - The pricing of our instructions is basically what we have to sell things for otherwise the business doesn't function. You mentioned that you think the MOC community kind of became a bigger thing when we launched our store and that's because we started charging prices that actually interested top tier builders to work with us. We've actually had some builders decide not to work with us because we didn't charge as much as they wanted.
    One thing that we wanted to do to differentiate ourselves from other MOC stores is to have a higher level of quality. This means troubleshooting and building other people's sets ourselves to find errors and give feedback. A single MOC can take a designer 3-4 month to build, longer if it's a 20,000 part ISD, and then it takes us another month at least to buy the parts, stress test, give feedback, reorder parts to make changes and produce a video. It's a long labor-intensive process but it means you will not find a lot of errors with our builds and you will get a better quality product compared to other stores out there. Also, the ghost costs an estimated $1,800 in parts so we figured if you're going to spend that much money on a Lego build then you probably wouldn't have an issue with instructions that are less than 4% of the total cost. Also, there's website hosting fees, web development fees, chargeback fees, marketing fees, etc etc.
    Like some other MOC stores, we could just sell untested digital models, cut out the price of parts, stress testing, and save a ton of time and money but it means we're going to be selling a worse product. Our whole mission is to make the MOC buying process something that's more reliable when compared to the grabbag chances of other stores. We're not completely there yet but I think we offer a far better quality product in general than any other MOC store.
    Also Lego is super expensive which reduces how many people can afford to build custom, so if Lego becomes really cheap and we can sell 2x the amount of instructions because of it, then I'm happy to lower prices. Please ask Lego to reduce prices :)
    - As for the ugly. I'm sorry to hear that you are afraid to make a negative review of our products. As a video game reviewer myself 'LevelCap' I know that it can be hard to post a controversial opinion online because it opens you up to criticism of yourself, much more so than a positive review. But that's what being a reviewer is. I don't want to tell you how to go about reviewing as that's your business but I think you will find your own way forward.
    The two negative videos you posted about us that we had issues with were not about them being negative but because of the other issues that we talked about at length in our previous talk video, which people can watch if they want to know since that's a whole other fun adventure and this post is already way too long.
    Anyway, I hope I answered all the questions. If you have any other questions just lemme know!

    Hey guys, so Brickvault and I tried to recreate my results for the AT-TE price, but were unable to do so. Obviously things on Bricklink fluctuate, but it seems I got an unusually high price. If you're looking at getting the AT-TE, do know the price is closer to $300, depending on preferences of course.

    What did you think of their Imperial Shuttle?

    • @OntheBrick
      @OntheBrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I really like it! I did, however, find it interesting that they compared it to the UCS version and said both are minifig scale. Both ships are noticeably different sizes. So they can't be the same scale. That's just not how it works.
      I understand minifig scale isn't a set thing, but still.

    • @BrickVault
      @BrickVault 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@OntheBrick I would tend to agree except that custom builders and Lego themselves tend to alternate from around 1:42 scale to 1:35 scale depending on how big you think a minifigure should be. So two different size models can be minifigure scale, but we think our shuttle is closer to an accurate scale.

  • @deanj.9324
    @deanj.9324 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When it comes to the cost of things, I'll say this much. With the major company itself costs are baked in. With Brickvault, you get to see the transparency of that. Either way it's an expensive hobby.
    When you buy the instructions, you buy the design. It's a PDF so no one can change or alter it to protect the designer. What other file would you have them use?

    • @OntheBrick
      @OntheBrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very tough question. I love both, but Ahsoka is my favorite character. It really depends. If I choose one, does the other not exist? In that case, I guess 7 seasons of 2003. I dont think 2 seasons is enough to tell a proper story in the 2008 clone wars.
