Great control and tone. Makato is a gifted clarinetist. Note that their is an allusion melodically to Mozart's Symphony no. 23, second movement with obvious rhythmic differences - early in the piece. I do not have the score so those of you who know it will recognize the 'quote'. As for Timbre: Years ago I worked in the same direction. I have no idea of Makato's 'setup' since it has been years since I was concerned with such things. However he reaches the right balance - great articulation combined with a medium dark quality which is what I always aimed for!. Makato and the Conductor take this at the right speed. von Weber was no Mozart. However this is my favorite. An excellent work in one movement for a more limited composer is better than doing the whole Italian form of 3 movements. I switched to Jazz and Popular Alto and Tenor Sax since it was easier to get gigs and I was not the greatest sight reader. This involved an amazing switch in terms of embouchure and setups. Unlike many others I see a continuum between European And American forms of music. This being the case even when playing Funk or Jazz at a Strip Club. Music is what saves us as human beings; Since we seem to have f'k up everything else.
Thank you for sharing your experience. For an absolute fan of music (as an art) like me, but also an almost total ignorant in musical techniques, this is interesting.
this is incredible, im 13 right now and im playing this for a MPA district competition and when i see these videos on my fyp,, it shows to me how far ways i have before reaching my dream of being a musician, it will be a tough road for me to folow at such a young age but I know i can if i just try, incredible playing didnt think i even had to mention that since you probably already know that but I had to mention it
Toca hermoso!!!
It's wonderful to watch young artists perform. Mr. Makoto has a beautiful tone, & I really enjoy this performance. I suppose he's about 20 years old now, & I would love to hear more of his playing.
+Abigail McKee First slow it all down, making sure you are playing each note at the same dynamic+same length. Then try practicing the fast notes in groups of 2 32nd notes. Continue that pattern with 3 32nds, and then groups of 4. If you can master each group at twice speed, you should be able to play it flawless at normal speed. Have fun!
@mozart710 Bb, I know, thanks. In tune but not perfectly precise. And it's the most important note of the piece !! My clarinet teacher likes to say that as soon as a jury hears this first note, he knows what he is going to say about the whole piece... However, I agree with goateater123, the other 99% was fabulous !
@soloArtist13 u practice it slow for a long time, even if u think u can play faster since u practiced it slow, well, keep practicing it slow until u can consistently align and play all the notes clean, in dynamic, and comfortably. make sure u say "deh" fast and relaxed.
SHUCKS... the end of the piece is missing... unfair way of cutting this magnificent piece!!! Video uploader: Instead of "Dolce Cantabile" you should be called "Amaro e Deludente"
Well i guess for the pressure he had it is quiet well. To say that something sounds not that nice is easy but in the moment where you’re standing there and have to perform, especially the first note which is definatly not that easy you can’t/won’t be this critical at all!
Listen to more European, American, and even South American players because they blow the Asian countries out of the water, and I'm Asian myself. But, that's my opinion and interpretation varies.

I like they way he’s holding the clarinet like its just so natural that it becomes a part of him

Very nice performance. I very much enjoy this Interpretation. The additions and cadenza also work very well.
I think this is the first time I've heard this piece played with a cadenza, and a marvellous one at that.
he's so expressive I love it he's practically dancing around the stage ahhhh
troppo bello.... un grande clarinettista... complimenti davvero!!!
This is my favourite concertino!:) He playes it so nicely, I'm doing it for my diploma next summer after my 14th birhtday! I'm so excited!:D
Bravissimo! Remarkable!
the key is to practice and love the music that ur playing. after a while, u start to become familiar with the piece and eventually memorizing it

5:18 "Went to high Eb instead, come at me bro!"
gosh he is cute :3 and wonderful performance too! I will be performing this too soon, pretty nervous gahh!
nice tone!!
bravissimo. suono puro e chiaro complimenti
I'm 18 and a senior in high school and I can't get the fast part down for my college auditions. WHY?!?! Ugh!

+Abigail McKee sameeeee
Its all about coordinating your fingers with your tougue, so I would practice different rhythms on the same pitch.
+Abigail McKee Did you know he only started the clarinet at age 15? Till then, he was in the soccer club!
Yea, thats cool, i've heard several stories like that.
Beautiful...
Dramatic. I really like this play.
BEAUTIFUL
Kind of weird how in the beginning he retracts his fingers instead of keeping them over the keys.
Great!
@DansonHonda I think this is the osaka philharmonic, seen in videos on youtube like holst's jupiter.
Amazing sound, and the cadenza was awesome!!
I would have rather heard the actual end of the piece! Where was that? What a joke.
I didn't particularly like this interpretation of the solo. Obviously, he's very talented and I aspire to reach his level of musicianship.
Highly gifted
@mozart710
Bb, I know, thanks.

So instead of finishing the piece how it's written, he decides to throw in his own little clarinet jam session. This was awesome.
MAGNÍFICO!!
very open this sound
its awsome
memorized this once too lol I hate the fast tongue part
HI AMY
Anthony Gigliotti: Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra (Weber) - 1952 Recording:
watch?v=8D5pWmIu_so
thanks and regards
Very impressive indeed
I thought he had it right. The tempo marking in the beginning on my sheet music is Adagio ma non troppo. with the quarter note at 52
"At ease, but not too much". In other words have some fun but let's keep it moving along there, buddy. 52 is some hair-brained editor's idea.
i’m playing this for solo and ensemble this year (it’s my junior year in high school)
Formidable ! Talentueux clarinettiste actuel. Rappelez vous de son nom...
it's a perfect clarinet solo hah!!!!
incridible!!
Just like your spelling! ;)
Beautiful and very pure sound.
I think you are using double lip, am I right?
What a lively tone, so much feeling!
is the part at the poco piú mosso taken up tempo?
wow
What does he start playing near the end? In all the parts I've found, it doesn't exist.
Time: 7:23
I think that's an added cadenza by the player.
A.H Not by the player; it was added by the piece's commissioner, Heinrich Baermann.
Yeah, I found that out after I commented. Thanks for the correction of information.
Jeffrey Rossbach My Henle edition includes the Barmann (imagine umlaut) cadenza.
Where can I find more of Makoto's performances?
bravo
is eiji oue conducting?
I'm getting this sheet music
I'm trying play this sheets, but its so hard.... Makoto is great player.
how do you practice your tonguing to make it sound so effortless?! i must know :)
Though I appreciate the expressive style of swinging ing his clarinet, for the high niotes that's look like a shame
@langrisseriii, No he is not!
nice cadenza! though I would want to hear the original
Omg
I'm not sure. I've played it also and have heard many performances, and it always was faster... For me it sounds better :)
@langrisseriii no, look at his top lip. name one successful classical clarinetist that has used double lip.
i'm a clarinet player, dang i have to work hard to be as good as him!
His parents wouldnt stop until he was perfect no wonder he didnt disgrace his family
Wow just a Rovner ligature
@Mimi38ls its Bb
oh god, i do that eye roll thing so much. gotta love looking unattractive whilst playing
@langrisseriii No, he is not, and noone ever should....
I'm an eight grader and I have to play this for solo and ensemble :||
SHUCKS... the end of the piece is missing... unfair way of cutting this magnificent piece!!! Video uploader: Instead of "Dolce Cantabile" you should be called "Amaro e Deludente"
The first B is really bad ... but in the following the sound is amazing !
Well i guess for the pressure he had it is quiet well. To say that something sounds not that nice is easy but in the moment where you’re standing there and have to perform, especially the first note which is definatly not that easy you can’t/won’t be this critical at all!
ive never understood why the most sub par players have the best equipment
+Justin Phillips Please Justify why you think that he is "Sub Par".
he is not sub par. that was solid playing
Ok then. your prior comment makes no sense.
or maybe ive realized that i was being a prick
+Justin Phillips fair enough. But I do understand your point
Listen to more European, American, and even South American players because they blow the Asian countries out of the water, and I'm Asian myself. But, that's my opinion and interpretation varies.
Even
You played the first part too slow
way to make an effortless improv...
And I can tell you a practize it a lot. But the more i practise it the more it evades me.
Why does it stop?......
Because the cadenza took up all the time the ending would have, and more. Super lame.
I don;t like the beggining, it's to slow... But i like the rest :D
Da fuqq could he remember that?

lol his facial expression xD he is an excellent player : )
