Which tape do you refer to? I'm sorry but O'List was not in the band when these demos were recorded in May 71, he didn't join the band until September 71. It is Roger Bunn on these demos. There are several sources which confirm this, from the offical RM website. www.roxymusic.co.uk/timeline/
Ferry was at his best when he was adding to the weird theatrical ambiance of the music. The more he tried to be completely up front and singing like a crooner, the less I liked him and the resulting music Hits like Avalon can't hold a candle to this. Sure, the later stuff was hugely successful, but the early music changed what you could expect from music.
Quixotic! From here to Avalon, what a trip!
Ferry's voice has the exact amount of tiredness which is needed to catch the melancholic vibe of this track. MASTERPIECE!!
Love this song. Takes me back to when I first met my late to be spouse Rodney❤
Never new there was someone else before Phil and the rest of the band together, Neverless this is excellent!!
Fantastic version of this ! Thanks very much.
Brilliant version, there’s a real innocence to it…
It’s good to hear the skeletal framework of a song, before all the bells and whistles.
Simply incredible!
makes me feel like I am in 1978 near the Beach looking at the cold water and rain and wind
Having said that, Manzanera definitely adds a lot in the later line up.
Just beautiful… thank you!
Keep them coming!👍🏻
Love this version!
Wow, thanks
. *_great_* 👍👍👍
Sublime! Thanks!
Black Country New Road sounds pretty much like this lol
Thank you so much.
Pavanesound you are most welcome

Interesting minimalistic take with soft vocal delivery from Bryan Ferry and classy guitar licks!
These first demos feature Roger Bunn on guitar not Davy O'List who replaced Bunn in September 1971.

I prefer this version to that on the first album which is all but ruined by Manzanera's discordant guitar.
Couldn’t disagree more, it is a beautiful addition to this song
