      You tell Dem voters to “be better”, but you never say the same of Trump voters. You always serve as their apologist. Why is that? Is it for the same reason you are telling Dems to not criticize Trump’s clown car cabinet nominations until they are in office?

      I absolutely do agree with what you’re saying about the two party system. There are too many people who are done with that model, me being one of them. I don’t agree with either party on a lot of issues. Both push too much of their own agendas and expect individuals to vote according to those agendas. It’s exhausting listening to them. As an unaffiliated independent voter I will watch what happens with an open mind and with skepticism.

      The biggest problem is that the Republicans allowed China to buy an Island closer to the USA and Russia bought property in the Caribbean UNDER TRUMP !!! THE RUSSIANS MIGS WERE FLYING OVER THE USA UNDER TRUMP SMH !!! TRUMP IS WORRIED ABOUT THE BORDER OF MEXICO BUT NOT RUSSIA AND CHINA SMH !!! THEN NOBODY IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE BORDERS AROUND THE BOTH OCEANS Pacific and Atlantic AND NOT ENOUGH SECURITY TO PATROL in the GULF OF MEXICO !!! SMH !!!

    I’m a center left guy who votes Democratic. I’m also second gen Filipino American, and I really dislike the way Democrats oversimplify and assume that minorities like me are always behind whatever the Democrats feel obligated to support. Filipino Americans (like Mexican Americans and many other Latino groups) are overwhelmingly Catholic, have incredibly strong family and community values, and are completely overrepresented in the military, among other features. So many people in my community loathe Trump but many others have fallen out with the Democrats because of what we perceive as a demonization of so many of the things we value. The Democrats’ messaging and policy needs to change and stop treating minorities like children who should be told what to think.

      Forget about stats and charts and graphs and polls. Here is why Kamala lost. (And I voted for her). She lost for 3 reasons. She’s a woman of color. She’s married to a Jew (which is distasteful to this very racist antisemetic nation) and finally, fox f-ing news. Fox News is the trump propaganda channel. They delivered trump on a silver platter by lying and spewing vile rhetoric on a daily basis and the magas ate it up and repeated it. Those are the three reasons. Her color, her husband and Fox News. *also she had a very short time to campaign and focused too much on trans issues. That’s also very distasteful for magas.

    • @victorbernard1256
      @victorbernard1256 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@fmtalks1386 The electoral college is specifically designed to give a definitive result. So yes from popular vote it was indeed close. But in the electoral college it was a blow out. The system worked as designed.
      In addition the electoral college weights winning states more than total votes. Again as designed Trump won 32 states.
      Kamala got close on the popular vote mainly because of California gave her a 3.2 million advantage.
      Clinton twice, Bush and Trump once won without a majority in popular vote. Trump won both. A monumental achievement given what the Dems did to try to stop him.
      Nothing short of a historically big win and comeback. The Donald is a winner and it’s impostor deny!

      Ethics like thousands of journalists who are supposed to serve as the 'forth estate' instead choosing to LIE for years to help their preferred party cover up that the president of the United States could barely function mentally?
      Ethics like then lying and gaslighting over and over for months when caught red-handed at the debate, telling viewers that he was perfectly spry and fit and to stop believing their lying eyes?
      Ethics like then turning on the guy, forcing him out against his will, and not even admitting the lies and bullshit before hand and instead, again gaslighting the public that Biden was a noble man who heroically decided to move aside for the good of the country? Like we hadn't just watched the intrigue that just happened?
      Ethics like then denying the democratic process and simply appointing his VP so she could have the pile of donation money? Then having the AUDACITY to try to use Trumps age as an attack immediately after doing all of this?
      Ethics like screaming that democracy is going to end, fascism is coming, rights are ending, and the sky is falling, if Trump gets elected? Knowing full well that he had already been nearly killed once. It then leads to a second attempt where the perpetrator DIRECTLY quoted some of this hyperbole as reasoning for it, but Democrats not only keep up with the rhetoric, but make it even more unhinged?
      Wasting donation money on celebrities? Journalists and Democrats instantly dropping the Hitler stuff the very day after the election, showing they meant NONE of it, and just shrugging it off like its no big deal?
      To even suggest that you people have the moral high-ground shows just what arrogant, self-righteous, insufferable people Democrats truly can be.

Humans dont work that way. She was missing in action for almost 4 years as the VP. No charisma what so ever. Awkward when talking or laughing. "Excuse me, excuse me, i'm talking ..." did not help either with the folks in Michigan. To my knowlegde, people in general dont like the law, or should i say, people that go around and tell everybody that "they are the law" so, they are always "right" and you are wrong. Looking down on people. It just leaves a bad impression, like a cop giving you a parking ticket with a big smile on his face. Her pants suit lawyer image didnt help either. Trump could have, like literally shot someone on 5th avenue, as an "Oktober surprise", and he would still have won.

Americans have always cared about family, the freedom to worship, finances, education, health, public safety-all of which are under attack. How unfortunate that a political party would be so eager to destroy the foundation of our country. Millions of Americans finally had enough! God Bless America and the generations to come.

      And Trump has said over and over he will let it go to the states. Do we have a country wide abortion law? Did we not just have it on the ballot in many states? You don't just get to define what someones position is and insist over and over again that you are correct and anyone who doesn't believe you is stupid, which is what Democrats have consistently done on the abortion issue.
      Abortion has been hotly debated around the world for a century, this is not just if they can or cannot happen, but when, what exceptions, in what situations, etc. The arrogance of just declaring it 'settled' and from now on my position is the correct one and anyone disagreeing hates women and wants them all dead, is not reasonable or useful.
      This is the way Democrats have started to make every single position on every single topic. You either see it our way, or you are an X Y Z, and we will do everything we can to make your life hell, demonize you, belittle you, and otherwise behave like horrible people towards you. This isn't unethical or despicable behavior because we are righteous. You know we are because we just told you we are.

    Kamala did NOT run on cultural issues...at all. The problem is her campaign didn't fight back hard enough against the trump campaign defining her in that way. She rolled out so many economic policies that could have helped people but the media focused on trump's attacks on her and those trans ads were effective. Kamala never once spoke about that issue except for in an interview to say that she would follow the law and the law was the same under trump's admin. That's it, but because those ads ran to very targeted groups, it worked to depress her vote. I knew people that were excited about her in the beginning and supported her policies but were looking at other candidates like Cornell West because they were worried that she was going to push a trans ageneda. I tried to debunk the misrepresentations in those ads to people I knew but they were far reaching. Plus there was a coordinated effort by black men influencers (probably paid) in the finance space to encourage their followers not to vote and that made a difference as well. Plus we were in a global space where all incumbent parties lost due to post-pandemic inflation. There were just huge headwinds that she had to deal with.

What I mean is she did not present herself as a woman steeped in the “black” culture. And she was very light skinned besides.
    In today’s America, this was not the deal breaker. It was her level of incompetence and her inability to make her case to the American people.
    As long as her race, gender or color becomes remains the excuse for her loss… the Dems will stay committed to “identity” politics and will lose over and over again.

Gut social security, cut Medicare, eliminate ACA, tax cuts and benefits to the rich and corporations… The sooner we get to the bottom, the sooner we can rebuild. 🙌

    Chris, I am one of the constant watchers of your podcasts and I agree with your perspective most of the time but in some respects I would beg to differ:
    1. Cannot what trump says -words matter and his have the power to curb lives, destinies, fates. He is toxic and that is more than obvious.
    2. Hatred and desire for retribution seem to fuel the vote. Any average sane mind would reject right from the get-go the constant lies, exaggerations, monstruos twisting of reality, but sanity is no longer a working hypothesis, what we're seeing has pathological names.
    Now, I agree, that the lesson is harsh and many good answers could emerge from this election result. The next 4 years will not be kind to the today's winners.

    I agree with 90% of your analysis. However, when you say not to pay attention to Trump and what he says but what he does, I believe you're engaging in wishful thinking, partly because a large part of the country is engaged in a personality cult and willing to bend the basic rules of democracy to please him, and partly because his behavior and rhetoric are outrageous. It's outrageous that his son is posting about policy and writing that "the pocket money for Zelensky is about to run out," as if America were a monarchy and he was the prince and heir to the throne.
    Also, when you say to wait and see how Matt Gaetz would govern, it dismisses the purpose of the vetting process.
    Finally, I like listening to you because you have become a voice of reason in the chaos, but you, too, almost completely ignore the Middle East issue. In your discussion, you shared many thoughts with sincerity, which was quite refreshing.
    Your straightforwardness lies in the middle ground, similar to where many conservatives stand. None of us here are extreme in our views; we find ourselves in a moderate position. I am willing to allow Trump his four years and criticize him if he veers too much to the right. At present, his policies starkly contrast those of Biden. It's worth noting the notion that "Scranton Joe Got Hijacked" by an unknown, possibly shady left progressive group. Although this wasn't explicitly mentioned, it is a point worth considering. During his term, the White House was not truly under Joe's control. Initially as a Senator, he held a centrist, possibly at times slightly right-leaning position, only to transition into a far left stance later as President (he was the top 3 worst the US has had). I value your insights, and while I'll support Trump loudly if he significantly benefits America, I'll also critique him if necessary. Your appearances on Newsnation, particularly when presenting differing perspectives on panels, provide a well-rounded view of your stance. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think there was one thing that you forgot and we cannot avoid this- Americans are not idiots and if you choose to go on TV and never answer one question (or gaslight Americans)- you are guaranteed to lose. and rightfully so……

    I'd like to address a couple of points Chris made.
    First - I'm Australian, living in Australia. So I'm an outsider. But our parliamentary system borrowed heavily from yours. We're a federated parliamentary democracy - that is to say a bunch of colonies of Great Britain that left home - in 1901. Yes, our Head of State is King Charles, who appoints someone to represent him at both state and federal levels; however the person appointed to the role is chosen by the First Minister - that is to say the state Premier or national Prime Minister.
    1) The 2 party system. Chris - if you're so upset by that system (& it seems many are like you) then find somebody to talk about it with on the program. Present ways to open up your system.
    From what I see from the outside - you DO have alternate parties currently. The Greens for the left - who ran a POTUS candidate (Jill Stein) in the recent election. The Libertarians on the right - who chose NOT to run a POTUS candidate this year. Over here (& NZ, Canada & Western Europe) The Greens tend to be in the House (and/or Senate). That's because under our systems the governing party is the one that got the majority in the House - which The Greens will NEVER DO - ANYWHERE. So how do you get the minor parties into the House & Senate?
    You keep talking about how much you hate the 2 party system. How's bout putting your money where your mouth is - find a political science academic, or interview Greens & Libertarians to open up a conversation?
    2) Not voting. Right now you're actually part of the problem you despise. Why? The focus on the Presidential race and the College. Nobody cares if you don't vote OR vote 3rd party because of the way the states structure the College - "The Winner Takes It All" in 48 states. And there's only 2 candidates that matter - the Democrat & the Republican. 3rd party & Independents don't matter..
    So - here you've got 2 choices. 1) Constitutional reform to REMOVE references to the College. Yep, I know, I just committed heresy. So 2) Something like the National Popular Vote Compact - but to get there you need enough states to 1) total the 270 needed to win the College to 2) sign up.
    3) Trans athletes. Especially m2f ones. The whole controversy stemmed from ONE such person, who was a swimmer. In case no one saw this there were photos of them as a male. Their height was 6'9" & they had a solid build. Why is NOBODY talking about this person being unfair competition in the male swimming competition. Because with that height and build - they were. Ok?

      @bethdumont9020. Thank you💯‼️ Thank you very much🤗. You see from Australia what many choose not to see here. Chris is playing in our faces as unbiased, but he is anything but. • @bethdumont9020
      @bethdumont9020 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @beewoke so how do you progress from talk with no purpose to action?
      You want reform, you gotta demand reform. But here's another problem.
      Not everybody out there is political. In Australia recent research compared the member base of our big 2 - Australian Labor Party (Democrat in the US) & Liberal Party (Republican in the US, don't let the name fool you) with the member base of AFL clubs. Australian Football League is the junior of our 2 football codes, the other being the National Rugby League. NRL - huge in 2 states (Qld & NSW) with a team in Vic & a team in NZ. AFL - huge in 1 state (Vic) with teams in QLD (2), NSW, SA & WA (1/state) & ALL those non-Vic teams were Vic teams that hadda move because of the size of the market in Vic made things uneconomical.
      EIGHT AFL clubs had bigger member bases than either political party. TWO AFL clubs had bigger member bases than BOTH parties COMBINED. Over here voting's compulsory & has been since 1924. This means we have high voter turnout levels as a percentage of the voting eligible popn. Once invalid votes are corrected for our AVERAGE EFFECTIVE VOTER PARTICIPATION RATE IS 85%. The US AVERAGE VOTER TURNOUT RATE IS 55%.
      I wish I had the answers on how to motivate others to care, but I don't.

    • @beewoke
      @beewoke 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      First and foremost, campaign finance reform is needed. Corporations and big money donors control the political agenda which is why third parties are at a major disadvantage to the point where I think it will be yearrrrrs before they will be viable. Dems will need to identify core principles with key groups around which specific policies emerge. Party leadership did not serve them well.
      A major problem with their campaign was their failure to provide consistent, concrete messaging about their record and how that would be different going forward. There needed to be dialogue with third parties and key communities to ensure representation and that key concerns were generally incorporated.
      The “abortion issue” would have been better framed more broadly as women’s reproductive freedom. It will likely be an issue in the next election. Most importantly, the economy should be given prime consideration always. Voters rights must be protected. And, though I anticipate major setbacks during this next administration, social justice initiatives will be needed to readdress inequities in the distribution of government resources. And, there must be a strong environmental agenda.
      Dems had major accomplishments relative to the economy, prescription drug costs, healthcare access, child poverty, crime,etc., policies which unquestionably helped to strengthen the middle class from the middle out and the bottom up. Inflation obscured that growth. The U.S. economy was considered the best in the world while Trump wailed about the failed economy. Economists argued that his economic plan would increase consumer costs, cause inflation to increase and result in recession. Many seemed not to hear the warning. Rather, they repeated tropes about the failed economy.
      One analyst described Trump as an “asymmetrical actor in a conventional game.” Indeed, he was. He lied relentlessly, falsely taking credit or denying Dem successes altogether. He questioned why they hadn’t accomplished certain issues when he’d had 4 years and not addressed some of those same problems. He claimed he kept promises made when he obviously did not. He was going to “fix the border” and Mexico was going to pay. False on both counts. An evaluation of promises made versus those kept revealed he actually kept only 24 percent. He gave tax cuts to the rich and increased the national debt by half. Yet, many chose to believe his falsehoods.
      This brings me to something that many pundits, including Chris, refuse to admit. Trump has been a divisive figure for more than two decades. His rhetoric has been hateful, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic and lacking in civility and empathy. Some of his comments about Harris can only be described as vulgar and vicious. To be candid, a man would have faired better. Trump ran a campaign of white male grievance with a goal of advancing white economic and political dominance as outlined in Project 2025. Though he lied that he had nothing to do with it, that document should have given Americans major pause. Clearly, it was aimed at elevating him to a position of unchecked power with no accountability. He openly talked about militarizing the police and immunizing them from prosecution for what seemed like a purge.
      I think many will lose their livelihoods and some will lose their lives as a result of Trump policies. In the next election cycle, unity must be encouraged by trying to bridge major concerns of disparate groups relative to individual freedoms, our environment and our country. We will also likely need to address U.S. isolationism under Trump.

    • @bethdumont9020
      @bethdumont9020 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @beewoke yes AND no to finance reform. Do you need it? Yes, absolutely. The key is in the path from here to there.
      We had a federal election in 2022 and won by the ALP (Democrats in the US). (Over here, the party that wins the most seats - minimum of 76 needed - in the House is who forms the government. We separate the roles of Head of State (King Charles or his representative) & Head of Government (Prime Minister & state Premiers)). The ALP replaced the Liberals (Republicans in the US) as the government.
      The Liberals were decimated. Literally. The biggest block was a group of Independents known as the Teal Independents. They all up took about 10 seats from the Liberal party and ran on 2 key issues - climate change and the need for a federal anti-corruption commission. They ran community based campaigns at the local level. It is doable.
      Speaking as an outsider - way I see it, you place far too much emphasis on the Presidential race. If you want change, you gotta start at the local level. And state level because your federal election is run by the states. Over here - the federal election is run by the federal government thru the Australian Electoral Commission or AEC. Each state has its own electoral commission that is responsible for the election in that state as well as local government elections. Place some emphasis on the down ballot races for the House and Senate because a minor party or an Independent WILL NEVER GET ENOUGH VOTES FOR POTUS. Perot came the closest in 1992, getting only 19% of the popular vote. The only reason Perot ran to begin with was because Perot dared folk to get out and get him on the ballot to begin with - just watched something on that.
      While folk don't hold their elected officials accountable by voting for an alternative, nothing will change. The big 2 don't care whether or not you vote - voting Independent or 3rd party for POTUS is like peeing in dark trousers - gives you a warm feeling but nobody notices - or cares for that matter.
      To get change, you gotta get Independents & 3rd party's into the system somehow. The best way to do so is to get em into the House or Senate. To do that, well - people gotta vote for em & right now - they don't.

    • @beewoke
      @beewoke 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@bethdumont9020 Short answer. Discuss with purpose, with the goal of seeking answers, of actually improving the system to better serve citizens. What are major issues with the 2 party system? How do you avoid adding a 3rd party with similar challenges or flaws as the other 2? What do 3rd parties have in common with the 2 major parties? How would they differ? Convene conferences and round tables of scholars, activists, party representatives and citizens to discuss key issues. What steps should be involved in establishing a viable 3rd party with a necessarily long term vision? I don’t think current discussions are strategic. In fact, sometimes they seem manipulative. Curiously, 3rd party candidates of the Green Party, Libertarians, Natural Law, Independents, etc. seem to magically emerge every 4 years.
      We’re at an obvious crossroads as a country. The most pressing, potentially consequential, step right now in my view would be to unite behind an organized plan for campaign finance reform. We’re literally at a point where big corporations and the rich drive the agenda. This would be a major impediment to 3rd party success.

    I have a few thoughts on this. First, you are correct about Latins. I spoke with Latino contractors, blue collar workers, service workers, white collar workers, etc., they do not consider themselves as a monolith, but as separate groups of individual identities. You are further right that the Latins I spoke with tend to be conservative, were born here or were legal immigrants and considered "pocketbook" issues to be of paramount importance.
    Second, in 2016 I read that white men's economic power, as a demographic and as a percentage of the economy, peaked in 1969 and has been eroding ever since. The same study found that black men's economic power, as a demographic and as a percentage of the economy, peaked in 1983 and has been eroding ever since. Despite the fact that both white and black men's economic situation may have improved since 1969 and 1983 respectively, their influence in the economy as groups have been slipping for 55 years for white men and 41 years for black men. Assuming the results of this study to be accurate, it is no surprise that white and black men feel they were better off when Trump was President. The same may be true of Latin men. Most men view themselves as "providers" even if they are not the highest earner in the family. It should be no surprise if men in general felt they were better off when Trump was President.
    Third, I think too many people "go nuclear" when they disagree with someone. The result often is when a disagreement arises, someone has to try to cancel the other. Not every disagreement, every insult, every slight, justifies the veritable "death penalty" of cancelation. Look at the case of Annie Dunleavy, a CT special ed teacher who posted to her private Instagram account, a rant against Trump supporters. One of the Instagram viewers posted it publicly. The reaction was nearly instantaneous: she was suspended from her job, she ultimately resigned and will be hard pressed to find another teaching job. Anywhere, anytime soon. Like millions of people, she was upset at the election results. She made a mistake, a poor decision, and has been canceled for it.
    We all have to get back to the times when we could disagree with someone without being disagreeable. We have to accept that we all have the right to our own opinions on issues both big and small. That means the people who disagree with us have the right to disagree. We as a society must learn

    The two party system is far better than a multi-party system which is what many European countries have. The reason is, with a two party system, there is a clear majority but with a mulit-party system there is not. In a multi-party system nothing ever gets accomplished because it guarantees that a sizable minority will always win and that means that a majority of the voters will lose. If you have 3 major parties, that means 1/3 of voters win and 2/3 of voters lose such as 34% vote yes, 33% vote no and another 33% vote no. The 34% win and 66% lose. Not a good system. That is why nothing ever gets done in most European countries.

What really needs to happen, is allow a " second pick" that would allow people to vote for who they really want, but if that person has no shot once ballots are counted, then their second pick counts. That way its not "wasted".

Believe it -- you'll make a ton of money from folks who can advertise on your platform without worrying that you'll be calling their other potential customers as "garbage" or "fascists" or whatnot.
