Thank you for the lesson. As a newbie, I'm struggling with the background on my current project. I am using mostly upcycled wool that was given to me so my colors vary. I found my background and I resorted to outlining my focal points in order for them to pop. For me it's practice but hopefully in the end I will have a wonderful rug.
Just don't give up. Find a way that works for you. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. Experiment. Luckily, it look like you are already doing all that.
@@rughooking are you sending me the green and plaid wool for my background/frame. What your mailing address? Do you want me to send the narrow piece of wool I have for the background of my Santa? I’m Sonia Ayo friend from Louisiana. We talked a few weeks ago by phone.
I almost never use a pure white or black for a background. Those are harsh. My go to is a warm brown, about the shade of milk chocolate. Many people prefer navy blue. But the point is to pick the VALUE of the background and preferably the actual color before you choose anything else. Lay the background out and lay the other colors on top. Does it work? I’m a beginner. I have run out of my wool for my background. If I mail you one wool stripe can you match it and send me more wool?
I cannot match from a strip, do you have an uncut piece?
@@rughooking I have a long stripe about one inch wide.

Doesn't white or black work for just about anything?
