    Full replay from the ExCeL - North Arena 2 as the semi-finals take place in the men's judo -81kg event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (31 July 2012).
    In the two featured semi-finals Travis Stevens (USA) takes on Ole Bischof (GER) and Kim Jae-Bum (KOR) takes on Ivan Nifontov (RUS).
    Judo made its very first appearance at the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo. However, it was not included in the Olympic programme in 1968 in Mexico City, but returned, never to leave again, at the 1972 Games in Munich. As for women's judo, it was added to the Games in 1992 in Barcelona.
    Men and women now compete in seven weight categories. There was originally a men's category open to all weights, but this event was withdrawn after the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.

      Cause of that their were some changes over the last years. What happened here was, that neither Bischof and Stevens got regular points or penalties. So after end of Golden Score the referees decided the winner by some aspects like how active the opponents fight or tried to get a regular point. They showed their decision by showing a blue or white flag (refearing to the colours of the suits). This was quit intraspereant for viewers and also not really objective. After the London Olympics the Golden Score got limitless, the winner is the opponent who got a regular point or whos opponent got the third penalty.
      The regular points are the Ippon (100 points) (perfect throw where the opponent is landing completly on his back, or after 20 seconds of keeping your opponent on his back with without interruption) and the Wazari (10 Points) (good but not perfect throw or keeping the opponent on his back for 10 seconds without interruption). Two Wazari get added to one Ippon (except a short time in 2017).
      Till shortly after London their existed also the Yoko (1 point) (a partly good throw or 10 seconds of holding the opponent on his back (till this you needed 20 seconds vor Wazari, 23 for Ippon). The Yuko wasnt able to get added to an Wazari. Today most situations you got a Yuko for you get a Wazari now.
      Instead of holding the opponent for the required time on his back you can strangle or leverage the opponent in ground fights till he gives up.
      Their is also the chance to win if the opponent gains penalties (Shido). The first two Shidos cant decide the end of the match. In the regular time also the third doesnt. In Golden Score getting the thir Shido means to lose.
      The fourth Shido means to lose by disqualifying. (Hansuko-make). You can get Hansuko-make directly by big rule violation.

    For those wondering why Bischof won, the attempted throw at 6:59 was the only throw in the match which clearly brought the other one off-balance. As the commentators said, it was very close, but I think the win is deserved.
    Also for those who are wondering where the staredown came from: At 5:18 when getting back up, Stevens accidentally hit Bischof in the face with his elbow and Bischof wasn't happy about that. Stevens said in a podcast later that he didn't notice at that time that he hit him.

      Stephens being a Jiu-jitsu black belt would have destroyed this dude if that were the case . Judo has really screwed the overall art by being too stand up focused and having very stupid rules in that regard . And Jiu-jitsu is lacking now because of being too ground and sport focused. The JJGF is the only organization that I know of that is actually trying to preserve and combine the arts back to their original purpose and awesomeness.

      from my observation, sometimes judge tell the players to fix their gi. Sometimes the player can force it, so after the "mate" call the player can quickly fix their gi, but usually a "hajime" to start the fight is being called. Literally watched my BJJ teacher ( a brown belt at the time) have a match with another brown belt at a national level competition, and they both just stared at each other for the whole match until the end when one of them shot for a single leg in the most non-committal way possible. The guy was a wrestling coach at one point too. Dude traveled to Las Vegas for that milquetoast nonsense. Gotta say I prefer the Judo/Wrestling pace.

      Martial arts have rules. You don’t walk into a Muay thai fight and judo throw someone, you can’t slap in judo. Idiot

    How do you get points? I’m nearly ten min in and no one has points yet.

    • @amaliakuba9000
      @amaliakuba9000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's simple, if you trow then you get points. An ippon it's the maximum score and there is also wazari. You can better search it up because I don't know if you understand something:))

    The German did deserve to win because he was more on the offensive and on several occasions he attempted some very clear eri sei onages , full in depth attacks , which the American did not attempt so clearly

    So you can drop someone, sit on their back holding them down, and it doesnt count as a single point?

      no

    • @slaffkas
      @slaffkas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Successful throw must be on the back - that is a win - ippon.
      Less successfull - on the side - wazaari (10 points) 2 wazaaris = 1 ippon - win.
      Pin of 10 seconds - wazaari, 20 seconds - ippon.
      Wazaari throw +10 seconds pin = ippon.
      Judokas do not think in points, but in wazaaris and ippons
