    Highlights as Germany's Dimitri Peters wins the Men's Judo -100kg Bronze medal match against Uzbekistan's Ramziddin Sayidov during the London 2012 Olympic Games in the ExCeL Arena.
    Judo made its very first appearance at the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo. However, it was not included in the Olympic programme in 1968 in Mexico City, but returned, never to leave again, at the 1972 Games in Munich. As for women's judo, it was added to the Games in 1992 in Barcelona.
    Men and women now compete in seven weight categories. There was originally a men's category open to all weights, but this event was withdrawn after the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.

    if you slow it way down at 5:55 , it looks like sayidov falls before peters even sweeps, but its just timed so perfectly with sayidov lifting his foot that it appears to not even require effort. They were walking together and peters perfectly anticipated his opponents foot movement and began the sweep before his opponent even lifted his foot.

    I am a Judo player. To every one worrying the new rules will make Judo boring because they allow for some more time to work on the ground. Look at the explosion of BJJ competition. They are growing while our sport declines in popularity. There emphasis on ground grappling has certainly not inhibited there popularity. They are allowed to bootscoot ffs.

    • @josseoosterkamp212
      @josseoosterkamp212 9 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      well there is nothing good about it turning more into bjj, this makes judo more unic, and the fighters more skilled in stand up. If you want bjj go do bjj, although it is good to teach some in judo class

    • @antonyneal
      @antonyneal 9 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Just because there is more ground grappling does not make it more like BJJ. Judo has had tournaments with a ground grappling emphasis before Helio Gracie even heard of Jiu-Jitsu. I do not want BJJ I want more of a chance to use ground grappling in Judo tournaments.
      Judoka will not necessarily get worse at stand up just because they have a bit more time on the ground to work.

    • @lamveritab4162

      BBJ is definitely changing judo. I wasn't aware of the rule change but absolutely rare that a player strategy is to win by submission not even in Kozen Judo that emphasizes heavily on ground fighting. THE UZB player was ippon driven whereas THE GER(PETERS) was BBJ submission driven. Change is inevitable and often good but I don't know how much I like that considering how much and what judo already lost through sports and tournament ruling.
