The 4” version has become my EDC. Great addition
They do seem to be “just right” when it comes to this sort of thing! Roy H.
You are so right. I was ready to return gun to SA a second time due to FTF and FTL. And many misfires and failure to return to battery. The. I switched to Winchester white box 124 grain and it has been running like a champ ever since. 😊
Great looking piece. I don’t own a 1911, but this was makes me really think about buying one due its concealment capabilities. Thank you for reviewing for us. 👍
Recently bought 3 copies of American Handgunner dated 2019. They cost around 3 US$ each. Handgunner is very hard to find and only back issues are available at book stores. Subscribing is out of the question since gun magazines often get stolen in the mail. I have been an avid reader since the time of Hopkins and Nagata during the 80s.
Roy can really shoot that gun !!
Been carrying the original one with Tritium night sights 3" barrel, chrome slide & black frame, a look I prefer to this one, but that is just a personal thing. I like how they took the ambi safety off this one. I hate the ambi safety on my original EMP, other than that it is a great carry gun.
I never cared for the ambi safety on any 1911 I owned. I was forever more unintentionally knocking the safety off from the off side.
ME TOO!@@eddieengland9886
Hey, I also have an older .40 EMP. Very sweet firearm. In fact, I got turned on to them when Springfield Armory had an event at our local gun club, with all sorts of firearms to try out with them providing the ammo, back when ammo was plentiful. I shot the 9 mm EMP and was amazed at how well it shot and how accurate I could be with it. I eventually found the one I own (purchased it used from a local store) and still have it. It's not my daily carry, that's a Springfield 911, but it could be. The other thing is that I wished they made something like this in 10 mm.
They have a full size 1911 Ronin in 10mm
I'M LATE...but I picked up Ronin EMP 9MM and it's my new EDC. Did change sights and did Trijicon it's a awesome little gun.
This will be in my collection
Update..I did purchase it for $720 plus no tax 😁
For a carry pistol I'd like to see the 4" slide fitted to the 3" frame.
Agreed. That's why I Really like The Colt.CCO 1911. Commander 4" Slide with a short Officers length grip!
@@stever8776 Is it 4" or 4.25"?
Great vid amigo!!
Sharp looking gun, in the hands of a capable sharply dressed shooter!
"Give us a break"
*Springfield took that personally*
Now if we could just find one and buy it close to the MSRP. The distributors tend to limit supply and retailers gouge like crazy.
Great gun!!!
Couldn’t agree more Jorge! Roy
I used to concealed carry a full size 1911. I think this would be better.
Looks like the original with a few different colors and accessories. The EMP is a beautiful firearm. When it works. Did they fix the design issue with the extractor?
I think you mean the ejector, lots of people had problems with that coming loose, but I’ve my FDE emp for about a year and 1k rounds and haven’t had that issue. That being said originally I had light strike issues really bad until I sent it back to SA. After that I have not had a single malfunction that I can remember
Interesting because others have said it’s not snappy. But those of us in our mid 60s will probably find it snappy. I’m carrying Sig Sauer P229 everyday; it’s not snappy. My P365 is snappy. Best Regards sir
Little grip makes it snappy as compared to the original design. That’s the drawback.
Just bought one. I'm 63. Not snappy imo. Added G10 grips...very sweet shooter...I'm thinking because of the bull barrel
I held one two days a go, had it been rocking a tritium orange dot, I would have bought it! What were they thinking!? The perfect design but front sight. Uhhgg!!!
That can always be changed to what you want Mike. Roy
You might be a gun person if....
You have over 20 firearms in your Gunbroker watchlist.
I have the older 3" EMP. This one is pretty much the same as that one with a few minor differences. Yours had a single thumb safety and the fiber optic front sight. Mine came with 3 dot tritium sights and ambidextrous safety. The colors are reversed in yours. Mine also came with 2 nine round mags. The mags are a bit pricey. Mine shot dead on for windage and close enough on elevation to be no issue even at 25 yards. I have noticed that lately Springfield has had a tendency to put out pistols that shoot to the left and down. I saw it on my hellcat and others on various forums have been saying the same thing. Interesting that the EMP you have does the same. I wonder what they are doing at the factory to cause that. I like a 1911 format but very much prefer a thumb break holster to carry cocked and locked. I found on mine that the thumb safety seems to come undone in IWB carry. Not something I like in cocked and locked.
For one the Hellcat is an import gun like ALL of the "Springfield Armory" XD/XDs/XDM/XDE/Hellcat models. Springfield Armory does not manufacture them. They are all variations of the Croatian HS2000, and are built in Croatia, and imported by Springfield Inc. The lower end Springfield Armory 1911s have been built in Brazil at the IMBEL plant depending on year and model.
Secondly, shooting low left is usually a function of the shooter anticipating recoil, and slightly nosing the muzzle down, and left, and/or having too much finger on the trigger. It is a common occurance, and usually not perceived by the shooter. It is not a problem with the gun, but the shooter.
I like the standard size 4.2” better. Easier to shoot and no more difficult to conceal via IWB holster.
You’re right about it being just as easy to conceal. People forget that longer slides don’t make much difference other than in they are easier to shoot well! Roy
Man if they made one in the 30 super carry then they could probably thin the entire frame down to about .85 inches or less.
Snappy at 24oz? Maybe due to the metal frame?
is this CCW better to have than a
Kimber Micro 9 black ice for reliability
I think the Kimber would be fine. But like any of the smaller guns, keep it clean and over-lube it a bit. Roy
Don't worry about that rapid fire groping. He's dead or hart really bad.
Does it come in 40 caliber
Looking to trade my Glock for one of these, but I don't understand why the 4in has a 10 Rd mag but my full size emissary only has 9?
Check the Springfield website Pat. It shows both with 9-round mags. 10 with one in the chamber, of course. Roy
@@fmgpubs oh ok, have you tried and Wilson combat 10s in the emps?
@@patrickmoore4206 I haven’t Pat. I tend toward stock mags of designed capacity. They always seem to be more reliable than the “higher cap” ones forcing an extra round in. Roy
Is that a plastic trigger?
I have this pistol. How wold I test?
No
I definitely do Not find it snappy. Recoil is hardly noticeable.
I had an original EMP. I didn’t like the fact that it’s a 9, so I sold it. I replaced it with my Kimber Ultra in .45acp, almost an exact twin with the exception of the bigger hole it makes. Love it.
Lol. Always a .45 guy who shows up to throw shade on the 9mm. Predictable as the sunrise.
@@johndickinson8848 Glad I didn’t disappoint you. As an owner of both, I have some direct experience with both calibers. I wasn’t just blowing smoke.
@@CrazyPetez Understand, it’s just fun to watch the .45 church defend their God.
@@johndickinson8848 😊 OK, I’m not religious, but JMB & .45ACP are the closest to holiness that I’m aware of.
@@johndickinson8848 You have a problem with that? The simple truth is the .45 is an American round. The 9mm is a German and Nazi round. So like I buy my cars and firearms, I’ll buy America.
Roy, It would be my next purchace, except for the fact that I'm still in the Socialist Workers Paradise of Kalifornia, and we can't be trusted with the Ronin, as it's MUCH too dangerous! Oh, Rocky was in and says Hi. Hammer
You gotta move! Rocky was always a swell guy. Tell him Suzi says hi too. Roy
why is TH-cam keep showing this video promoting a gun that's impossible to buy anywhere, why why why why. Stop advertising anything that consumers can't buy okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Cesar … yeah, it’s some crazy times indeed! But at least you know what you’re looking for! Roy H.
All gun enthusiasts have to understand my thoughts about any gun our there impossible to obtain
Coach Andy Reid!!!!
Nah, he copies me! Roy
I'm keeping a scorecard: Andy Reid, Wilfred Brimley, "My favorite Uncle" - BW
Great gun. But $800.00 and comes with 1 magazine. Lame.
Just another unreliable 1911.
I dunno … I’ve had dozens of SA guns and never had any issues with any of them. Use good ammo, lube it correctly, shoot them with a firm firing grip and you won’t have any issues. Over the years as a gunsmith, editor and shooting teacher, I’ve found the vast majority of 1911 “issues” were ammo/shooter related. Roy
