Yeah, even in those short clips I definitely noticed analogs for Gilligan, the Skipper, Mary Ann, Ginger, Mr. and Mrs. Howell, and the Professor. Thanks so much for this YTP, noisepuppet. Beyond your comedy, which was quite good, I've seen Bob Denver in very few things besides Gilligan's Island and spinoffs -- mostly Dobgie Gillis (which he was quite good on) on Nickelodeon when I was a teen and Far Out Space Nuts when I was a kid. I was alive (barely) when this show aired, and it's possible my parents watched it, but I would have been too young to remember, and I'd never seen any references to it or footage from it, so thanks.
Fun fact: my mom went to elementary school with the son of Bob Denver, AKA Dud SuS AKA Gilligan. He only came to the school building a couple times, but she remembers seeing him in person.
Good news: Dud Sus is back after a long hiatus with new episodes right after all new "He-Man And The Buttmasters Of The Universe" and "Yoruichi Shihouin's Sexy Ballet Flash Dance Master Party".
Best I've been able to measure, it averages two hours of work per minute of remixed a/v runtime. This includes overhead like setup and upload, as well as false starts that have to be thrown away. Speeding up seems to commensurately increase the proportion of material that doesn't work, so that it's very difficult to achieve any net gain in the rate of production. For many years, I avoided this analysis because I had a feeling I wouldn't like the answer, but there it is: a five minute YTP represents roughly ten hours of work. I'd love to know the answer for other YTPers, but to make any direct comparison, we'd have to make sure we're measuring it the same way. I'd guess that some are slower, and some are faster. I'd also guess that YTP is somewhere in the middle of various kinds of TH-cam content in terms of production time. In its favor, there's no writing, preproduction, set dressing, rehearsal, principle photography, etc. On the other hand, the editing is extremely intense. I mean it's all editing. PS: Incidentally, the rate comes out about the same whether I'm doing a sentence-mixing joke style or a more abstract surrealist form. I'd say the pure abstract "form" stuff takes way more time and effort for the amount of audience response, which stands to reason, since I've always meant it as sort of an ordeal that unveils things about the medium and human perception and reality, and the audience that finds ordeals appealing is limited. But it works real well to pepper a bit of it throughout a more conventionally comedic YTP, so I do that. I think.
