Knife Making - Forging a finnish sami puukko knife with antler sheath

- This is the second knife I have ever forged. It turned out very good, and I am very pleased with it. The knife is a finnish sami puukko made with reindeer antlers, masur birch and spring steel. I made it using basic tools, its razor sharp and it works great for carving and bushcraft.

Seems to me that ppl outside the region, especially those working unlaminated, frequently make very bulky tangs? It is also a very big blade of this type.
Very nicely done, at any rate
Excellent thanks for sharing, beautiful knife and sheath.

Hello, my friend. It is satisfying to watch you work with your hands using simple tools. You do many things in the process like I do, and your final product is much nicer than mine. Thank you for the video. Please keep on making them as you can.

You can call that a handmade knife. Very nice work. For most knifemakers that means power hammer and belt sanders....

Excellent work, nice camera placement. Admittedly, I came from Facebook because this style of knife reminded me of a Scottish Sgian dubh. Looks awesome dude, keep on hammering. Like=earned
Thank you brother😃! Yearh they look a littel alike😃
Very nice knife, this one looks extra staby.
Thank you 😃, yearh that right !

Thaks you sounds good bro :D! and thank you for subscribing :D
Beautiful work! I enjoyed your video so much.
thak you brother , i am happy you like it :D!
You may save some time on your filing if you only apply pressure on them to appropriate stroke. ie: push down slightly on the push stroke, and lift on the pull stroke. A belt sander would be a huge help also.
Thanks for the advise😃 ! Yearh a belt grinder wound really be Nice 😅😁!
Also, if you anneal the knife blank before you start filing/grinding, it will make the work faster, since the steel will be much softer and easier to work with :)
yes it was downright painful to watch :) I mean filing. But the effort was nice and great results
Beautiful knife! Subscribed!
thank you
Very cool!
thank you brother :D!
Hy Buddy! Really really nice work! Exzellent good handwork! Could be proud of it!!!!!!!!!
thank you very much :D
I hope you see again what the original shape of the puukko knife looks like. what you make doesn't look like the original
From what I've always been told you never pull a file backwards on metal like that

Really good work mate, turned out to be a good looking rig.
Thank you😁
Good work. Nice knife.
Thank you 😃
Also, it IS appropriate to put pressure on the forward and backward file stroke when you use a double- cut file or a sharp-tooth rasp. Thanks again.

Thank you 😁! I use an black oil paint, i think the colour is called "lamp black"😁
The antler will always look better on the deer, but nice work
thank you brother :D!
Nah, definitely beautiful on the animal but a true artist using raw materials always leaves them better than he found them.
The anvil sounds like it’s made from cast steel. If it is where did you purchase it? Great video

May I know the philosophy behind the L shape design ?
i don't think there is a special philosophy behind it , it is just to make it beautiful :D
So cool. Is it something you sell ?
sure i can make one for you if you would want one :D
What did you use to darken the carvings?
oil paint brother :D!
where do you get your antler from, if you dont mind? im having a lot of trouble finding places that sell reindeer antlers (especially for a reasonable price)

Hello. Subscribed. How long have you been forging? Nice looking knife you made there. A hand router is a neat little tool to gouge out the inside of the sheath antler. Looking forward to more builds.
thank you for the subcribe :D! this is the second knife i have ever made, so i have been smithing a couple of months, but i have worked with wood nearly my whole life. Yearh that would have been simpler whis a router! and thank you again :)
@@zakisworkshop Really good work, and great determination for only second time. Well planned out and better camera work then me.
