      Many bowcasters (Wookiee guns) also use solid projectiles, in main cannon they use metal quarrels enveloped in plasma, while in legends, some were modified to fire pure energy like laser weapons do, it just depends on who made the weapon and what materials were available.

      wouldn't the force just guide the Jedi to use their hilts instead of the blade to deflect the bullet? Wouldn't the Jedi be able to either rip the Slug Throwers from the user's hands or stop the bullet in its track/ deflect it with the force? Also if metal bullets were the way to stop the Jedi why aren't certain Stormtroopers trained in using the slug throwers instead of using that weird lighting rod thing? Isn't the Jedi's cloak made to stop a plasma shot/ spread out the energy from the shot so wouldn't it do the same to the melted metal? Alongside that, I just find it hilarious a Jedi would do better with a knife against a gun rather than with a lightsaber.

    Don't forget that a jedi is just fast enough to block a blaster bolt which travels at about the speed of a baseball, but a bullet travels 1000 - 1500 m/s which means that the jedi would probably not block more than half of the bullets. Meaning that if a jedi was being fired at he/she would most likely be dead in less than a minute, especially if the shooter had something like an AK-47 or even a machine gun.
    So if we were invaded by a bunch of jedi not having any sorts of troopers with them we would most likely win. But they have the force so it would probably be like 50/50 but I still think that we would win.

    • @TheBenjamin501
      @TheBenjamin501 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Koala King yeah i dont believe jedi are "just fast enough" ive seen most jedi deflect many incoming blaster bolts with ease

    • @erised0303
      @erised0303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benjamin Richardson Ok that is true but the point is that blaster bolts don’t travel that fast and a bullet travels at least double the speed meaning it would be a lot harder do try to block a bullet than to block a blaster bolt.

    • @TheBenjamin501
      @TheBenjamin501 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @erised0303
      @erised0303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benjamin Richardson Yeah that’s true. And I think that as long as any Jedi have high enough reaction time they could actually just use the force to push the bullets away or at least make change direction

    Right! So this explains why ballistic weaponry is so difficult (of not impossible, but I hate that word) to block in any Star Wars game! Recently, I've played Jedi Academy, and the ballistic weapons of the sand raiders cannot be blocked, but they can be avoided. Thanks for this! This is fascinating, really.

      Assuming they can detect the shooter's hostile intentions in time ro react AND they aren't otherwise distracted from using the Force, maybe. That's also assuming that they're good enough with the Force to stop/deflect a projectile with that much speed and kinetic energy behind it.

  • @SrnKjl

    Light sabers may have a variable output responsive to materials contacting the blade.
    And light sabers could be force weapons rather than heat weapons that apply forces to cut materials in such a way as to prevent a net force on the blade.
    This would explain light sabers not burning down the house. Also, the ripping energy could cause metal to melt. And, as light is the carrier for electromagnetic forces, such a weapon would literally be a light saber.

  • @Crown-Fox
    @Crown-Fox 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, uh, Kyle, you forgot a very important problem with the molten lead. Unless there's a significant resistance applied to the bullet when being heated, the molten lead is still traveling at 350m/s. Which means that the molten lead will embed itself into the Jedi. At the temperature required to melt lead, would it not then begin vaporizing the water in the Jedi's wound, causing the impact point to explode from the release of vapor?

  • @drewm-r7249
    @drewm-r7249 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, because the density wouldn’t change much and the momentum wouldn’t change at all when melted, that molten lead would still probably act similarly to a regular bullet in that it would embed into you, likely then cooking your insides.

    a question - would the magnetic field make a significant enough difference to the path or speed of the bullet such that the effect of the plasma is longer-lasting? i understand that neither force is enough to individually redirect or vaporise the bullet, but could they work in conjunction to achieve one or the other??

    Mythbusters did an episode on this and they were able to alter the path of a bullet using very strong neodymium permanent magnets. The bullet began to spin pretty soon and after going over several of them in a line it did dip down toward the magnets a bit. Not enough to save you if you were in front of it, but the study you cited that you would need 1x10^18 seems to be disproven by experimentation.

      I doubt it, actually. If the liquid lead traveled far enough after melting, sure, but since it's melted very close to where it will hit you, it's not going to spread out meaningfully more just because it's molten, so it's going to impact with the same force into the same area.

    • @TheJerseyNinja
      @TheJerseyNinja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      seigeengine not exactly, the insane amount of energy transfer would slow the molten lead down quite a bit. It definitely wouldn’t penetrate you. But you would have some third degree burns that’s for sure.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      How would the energy transfer slow down the lead? Cause I'm not aware of any reason it would do so, since it isn't vaporizing the lead meaningfully.

    • @TheJerseyNinja
      @TheJerseyNinja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      seigeengine it’s still transferring energy, and quite a lot. It’s turning solid lead into molten lead in microseconds, that’s pretty meaningful. The lightsaber would be absorbing quite a bit of the energy of the bullet in the process, most likely then creating a “kick” to the Jedi. Now it wouldn’t slow down DRASTICALLY, but enough to the effect that for it now being a liquid, it won’t penetrate due to sheer impact force

    *The "Kyle is Wrong!" FAQ*
    1. I chose room temperature for the bullet because I figured the majority of the mass -- the lead -- wouldn't be heated nearly as much as the jacket, which can melt during firing. It would make it impossible to determine the temp of the interior.
    2. I used a vertical orientation for a lightsaber, and not an optimal angle, because that's the angle it looks like Jedi usually block at.
    3. I didn't factor in the material making up the jacket of the bullet because it wasn't the majority of the mass, and therefore wouldn't change the value that much. It would only make the math longer.
    4. I said "degree Kelvin" to distinguish that it's a degree unit for people who may not be familiar with Kelvin. We're not all engineers and chemists.
    5. If a Jedi COULD block bullets, I imagine they would have blocked the blaster bolts -- slower, magnetic, and more visible projectiles -- during Order 66.
    6. I went on my Padme rant -- knowing canonically she died of a broken heart and that that's a real thing (Takotsubo cardiomyopathy) -- because no matter what her problem was, it would feasibly be handled by the kind of tech that could give her husband 4 new limbs and a suit that keeps his entire body functioning. -- KH (UPDATING)

    • @MonkeyKingsformerroomate
      @MonkeyKingsformerroomate 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Padme's death is crap. You're not wrong about that. The reason is Palapatine supposedly lifedrained her into Anakin but I don't see how he could have done that. The only thing I think you're wrong about is that bullet weapons exist in Star Wars and the Jedi seem to be able to handle them just fine. How? Because Jedi. Which is kinda a lousy reason I know. :) Love this show BTW.

    • @goldenhedgehog9
      @goldenhedgehog9 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      gslinger19 slug throwers (the name of bullet firing guns in the Star Wars Galaxy) are the favored weapon of Jedi hunters, because they give Jedi the most trouble, they can't be deflected, and even if blocked, they still end up getting hurt. People have been going on about this through the entire comment section.

    • @Samael1113
      @Samael1113 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While the prostheses are a high level of tech that would imply they could have done something, and Bacta had already been proven to be a miracle healing solution for numerous species throughout the SW Galaxy, you can't know for certain the technology to keep her alive and non-vegetative exists and is easily available in SW AND even if it was in existence, there is no guarantee they had the resources available and on-hand at the time of her death.
      People die all the time in hospitals because that particular hospital doesn't have the technologies available to them to help what is wrong with a person. Even though it is in existence at another medical facility.
      Also, Darth Vader's suit is a well-guarded Sith secret, employing Sith Alchemical processes to create And if you know anything about the Sith, you know they jealously guard their secrets. Typically learning something, whether through their own experimentation or finding an old Sith's holocron, record it into their own holocron then destroy any other copies of the information, so that they are the only one to have that power.
      In the EU, Sidious had made a handful of suits similar to Vader's.

      Agreed with most points except point 5. They could and did deflect blaster bolts very well, but there is a limit to that ability, depending on the power of the individual Jedi. Order 66 was the ultimate backstab that took most of them by surprise. Do you not remember the likes of Aayla Secura being literally shot from behind in her back and her not defending at all due to not anticipating the treachery?
      As for bullets, they are massive objects and one strong in telekinesis has many ways to deal with them armed with nothing but the Force.

    So, fun fact:
    Molten lead (melted from kinetic impact) hardens back into it's solid state VERY quickly at those speeds. Said molten lead does separate though, which means that it doesn't just melt into a glob of hot metal and harden into a hard glob of metal, it turns into a "shower" of metal raindrop shaped pellets.
    This means that you wouldn't be getting splashed by molten lead, you'd be getting shot by a LITERAL MINIATURE SHOTGUN BLAST, probably going at about 2/3rds to 3/4ths the starting speed.
    So you're still getting fatally shot, and additionally you're getting cooked from the inside by the frying-pan-hot lead inside your body.
    Long story short, if you try to block a bullet with a lightsaber, you're just making it so each bullet turns into a minishotgun shot that virtually can't miss, and making the bullets even MORE deadly by shredding your insides, then COOKING THEM FROM THE INSIDE.

    • @brainplay8060

      The problem with the theory is that the tiny particles in the "shotgun" effect have much less mass and much less penetrative power. They'll also be irregularly shaped which means they lose speed incredibly fast. Any lead that's semi-molten would strike and expand on contact also dispersing the energy across the surface. Any sort of heavy clothing would probably stop the majority of the re-solidified splatter let alone any sort of armor.
      What fake nerd boy in this video forgets is that the ability to block blaster bolts in the first place is due to Force enhanced reflexes. Not only could they block shots but they could dodge them much like Neo from the Matrix. You would have to overwhelm them with full auto fire or bring friends and fire from numerous angles. Of course they could just eject your magazines or force choke you.

    • @NickCombs
      @NickCombs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      This is the conversation I was looking for :)
      Yes, I think the melted bullet would still have penetrating power. Consider that it's not being blown apart by the plasmatana, but merely melted in place. This means you're less likely to get a shotgun-like spray, and the molten lead is going to continue on (with all of it's momentum) as a single mass.
      At those speeds, the bullet, liquid as it might be, is still going to penetrate that dumb cloak and tunic and flesh. It has to lose much of its velocity before it starts to splatter. So you're just going to have a normal bullet wound on the outside and a slightly shallower (but much nastier) internal wound.
      And a Jedi that deflects a shot with his/her plasmatana is not attempting to dodge the shot, so they're definitely super dead.

      +Robot Wolf Block? eh maybe not unless the molten bullet has some other interaction with the lightsaber that we might not be taking into account. But catching it? Well with the reflexes a jedi has and the fact that they don't really have to catch the bullet per se like a blaster bolt then using the force to catch/stop/deflect a bullet mid flight is actually plausible. any mass that isn't like say a missile coming form range should be easy to stop

      @The Bengalee Sceptic No they wouldn't. Jedi aren't batters waiting for the ball to come, they have Precognition/farsight which means they know where you are going to fire the projectile before you even pull the trigger. And bullets can't be deflected, but they can be blocked.

    • @Brendan-kx8iy
      @Brendan-kx8iy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @The Bengalee Sceptic and bullets would be easier to stop than a blaster bolt because they are slower and are solid. Slugthrowers are Mach 5+ and are made of stronger materials than from our world. And even then, they only leave small, very insignificant drops of molten lead that don't even penetrate the robes a Jedi is wearing. A bullet from our world which is at best, Mach 2 would just be blocked and wouldn't pass through the saber.

    • @_piulin_

      @The Bengalee Sceptic Obi-Wan blocked Slugthrowers with his lightsaber before in a comic. Therefore they actually can be blocked. Also, Slugthrowers are more advanced than our guns. So a bullet would be blocked but not deflected back at the user due to it being metal.

    • @ggez3933
      @ggez3933 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      But blaster shots are waaaaay slower than bullets. If it took 70 microseconds to get through 2.5 cm, it would take 2800 microseconds, or 0.0028 seconds to get through 1 m. Let's say you would shoot from maybe 20 m away in a gunfight where you use pistols with slow moving bullets. That would mean 0,056 seconds for you to react. I don't care how fast your reflexes are, or if you can predict the future, you can't block that willingly with force. It would probably take that amount of time for the force to actually take effect on things, because it can't be instant, so even if you started the process of stopping the bullet with the force when the trigger was pulled, you would still get shot. An assault rifle could reach 1200 m/s, which is almost 4 times faster than the pistol bullet in the video, which would give you just over 0,01 seconds to react from 20 metres, and use the force.

      (Copy pasted response of mine to a different comment, Might get a little wooonnnnkkkkyyyyyyy)
      *Initiate in the hall of the mountain king*
      I believe you are to be wronged here. Let's assume they force push de boolets because that would quick and effective. We must define what a force push actually is. Considering it can, you know, push an all manner of things, we shall assume that they push air forward. But when you push air, you get sound. So, they are really just using sound to push the bullets out of the way (lemme know if you think this is wrong, I'm not the most educated in the starwars universe). Now we know what the push actually is, we need to know what is being fired at it. A fairly common bullet is the 7.62x51mm NATO round. It puts out a whopping 3304 joules of energy. Now, because you want to counter that with sound, we need to know what a sound is measured in. Loudness is a measure of decibels, and decibels are measured in watts, and watts are joules per second. Now, our energy to stop the bullet is 3304 watts. Now, our wonderful little decibel formula is quite complicated, with it's silly little logarithm. But what is a Logarithm? Okay, think of it as so. 20 decibels is not twice as powerful as 10 decibels, but actually TEN times as powerful. So, now we plug in our numbers and pull the lever on our mechanical calculator, and we get our answer. 1784 decibels (Check me if you want, still a stupid number). Okay, here is where our problems start. You wanna know how truly powerful that is? THAT IS THE SOUND POWER OF SEVEN GODDAMN NUCLEAR FUCKING WEAPONS! HOLY SHIT! YOU WOULDN'T JUST STOP THE BULLET, YOU WOULD STOP THE ENTIRE GODDAMN WAR! AND EVERYBODY WITHIN A FUCKING 100 MILE RADIUS WOULD BE DEAD! YOU WOULD BE VIOLENTLY EVISCERATED, YOU BEING ERASED FROM EXISTENCE! THEY COULDN'T BURY YOU, BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE NOTHING TO BURY! AT ALL! NOTHING! NIL! DO NOT FUCK AROUND WITH THE FORCE PEOPLE! Okay, I'm chill. The problem with using sound (even though that is the only likely option in terms of physics) is that the thing that created it is massively more powerful than the sound created. Okay, There is your explanation of how the force just couldn't work.

      A really well trained and force sensitive Jedi ( or Sith) is precognitive, so they should be aware that someone is shooting a bullet at them, even before the shot is fired, so they should be able to just use the force to stop the bullet itself. If the force can stop a blaster bolt, it should be able to stop a bullet as well. And really, it should be able to return the projectile to the person who fired the shot as well. It would be interesting to know if a Force user could have an object travel at high velocities. If the power of the force is really only limited by the faith/ imagination of the individual force user, than the force is probably capable of Far more than we ever actually see used in the various stories.

It's not as easy for a jedi to manipulate object without proper concentration and it's more limited than you think. You see a lot of times when jedi are fighting non-force users they still can't use the force to just ragdoll them around (grievous for example) even though they should have no way to shield themselves from it. The bullets would travel fast and fire rapidly so unless the force user can create some kind of kinetic wall he'll have to focus on every individual bullet and redirect it. In the heat of a battle I don't see this happening.

    What if you were to tilt the saber to increase bullet's time spent in the plasma? If holding perpendicular yields 2500 joules in the time frame, it stands to reason that tilting it 45 degrees increases the distance to about 3.5 cm and energy to about 3500 joules. Say the length of the sword is 3ft which is close to 90 cm. So holding it at 90 degrees should put out around 10x the necessary joules. Somewhere between this is the sweet spot. Tilting it to about 9 cm distance is key. So with the hypotenuse at 9cm and the width at 2.5cm, the angle should be cos(2.5/9)*180/3.14. If my trig is right (probably not), the angle to yield 9000 joules is about a 55.13 degree tilt. So it is feasible.

      @8BitBronyz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      reniorjd if it's vaporized, there's only heat splash which is uncomfortable but as long as you're mobile, is nothing to worry about. If you were to stand still and block shot after shot, you might bake yourself but keep moving and the heat is quickly disappated and harmless. Mostly because there's a difference between heat and temperature. The temperature is high but the heat is insignificant. You can burn yourself on steam but a couple milliliters of water turning to steam won't have the energy of heat to raise the temperature of your skin deep and thoroughly enough to do damage. That and if the sword is held at arm's length, there's the chance that the momentum goes to 0 first and rises above you instead. At the very least it takes some calculation of air resistance to a heavy gas. But it's likely going to be successful.

    Extrapolating upon the numbers, and taking into account a Jedi's reflexes.
    Could a Jedi block a bullet if they allowed it to impact the saber at an angle, increasing the amount of plasma its passing through rather than with the blade perpendicular to the bullets trajectory? If so, what would the angle of impact have to be to achieve vaporization?

    • @TheJanitorIsIn
      @TheJanitorIsIn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      well i didnt do the math but to get 90000j and only Transfer 2500 in 2.5cm Diameter means that it would have to go through about 90 cm of lightsaber ( again just quick in my head so there may be mistakes). how long is a lightsaber? I think it would need to go through the complete sabre top to bottom

    • @rewrose2838
      @rewrose2838 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I suppose one could always have an old veteran Jedi now living his life as a peaceful hermit who'd once mastered the art of blocking bullets .... by _not_ receiving the bullet normal to the blade

    • @Alaric323
      @Alaric323 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Well, if my math is right, you need approximately 260 microseconds to achieve this using the numbers given to us. Depending on the speed of the bullet, it would result in between 25 centimeters to a meter or so of lightsaber to move through. Lightsabers are averaged to be a meter in length (but probably depends on the user), so it should be able to vaporize any low caliber bullet if stabbed directly.
      Of course, there's more factors at play. Potential for atom collisions between the plasma of the lightsaber and the now partially vaporized bullet can redirect some of it, creating a force (which is probably negligible, but still existant), and there's always regions of a plasma that can be cooler than others, and lead atoms can be shown to be influenced by magnetic fields somewhat by introducing them to graphene sheets, so the lightsaber could affect them too (though the lightsaber would be a looping coil of a magnetic field so one side would push and the other would retract, probably resulting in no impact at all.)
      All in all, WE NEEDS MORE MATHS!

    • @Painteagle
      @Painteagle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was thinking the same thing as you all. ChillaKilla I think you added a 0 in there so by those numbers it would be closer to 9 cm (tilted at an angle somewhere around 75 degrees forward or back) but for higher velocity bullets (3-5 times faster based on what was stated in the video) it could take up to 45 cm or about an 87 degree tilt. Higher mass bullets at that speed would take even longer. What we also need to question here is the canon idea that a Lightsaber power level can be adjusted. If a Jedi did have the reflexes to understand what was happening, they could potentially turn up the power level of the plasma to vaporize the bullets. This idea though has the issue that we have no idea what power level Qui-Gon was using in that scene.

      I was thinking the same thing. A shotgun with a grenade launcher would lay low many a Jedi. And, just for fun, today's special forces with sniper coverage would decimate Star Wars and Star Trek. No one is blocking everything with shotgun blasts in your face, and supported by a sniper 300 meters away.

      Let me know if I made some mistake, but don't lightsabers act more like physical objects than a pocket of plasma? He seems to say that lightsabers don't have normal force, as in just pressing up against something. We don't see lightsabers interact with non-metal too much, but when Obi Wan cut through the poison worm in Episode II, it was flung across the room, and Mace Windu decapitated Jango Fett, making his head fly 10 feet. Luke's hand moved up when Vader sliced it off Luke's wrist. Normal force can stop bullets.

    • @alexhuk7353
      @alexhuk7353 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Adrick Entertainment since the requirement to stop the bullets is way to high, one would assume that the effect that it would have on the bullet would be negligible. In both cannon and expanded, there are examples of using the force to make a field around the user (force-forcefield). So you could say they the force it's self could slow the bullet down (maybe even catch it), to increase the time and energy of the light saber on the bullet.

    • @patlanticocean8290
      @patlanticocean8290 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As to slowing the bullet with the magnetic fields while lead is melted, the effect you would cause with the first encounter of the field (because it is a circuit the bullet would encounter the field twice) would be largely undone by the second encounter. A hot projectile is still a projectile, without a more significant susceptibility to magnets the bullet is simply changing states. Being hit with a gram of ice at the speed of sound still carries the same force as a gram of water, the mass is the same as is the acceleration in the forward direction. As for effecting the time... possibly but not by any noticeable amount. It would kind of be like rolling a soccer ball over two parallel conveyor belts running in opposite directions: the force created by the first is mostly undone by the second and the forward velocity remains much the same save for the change in friction (depending on what the surface was before the belt) and at the speed of a bullet you would hardly notice whatever change was made by the time it hits the target. If a bullet passed through a barrier of plasma THEN had to travel some several hundred metres further to a target, THAT would yield some interesting results.

    Inside the game Knights of the old republic, the old one, the Jedi could create an aura around themselves to shield from damage. So if a Jedi melted the rounds then used the force aura to stop the liquid lead then would the Jedi effectively nullify the effects of bullets? And I'm no genius in any circumstances but I do believe that the Jedi have encountered ballistic weapons before with the Trandoshans. Therefore wouldn't the Jedi have come up with some form of defence against these types of weapons.

      *Initiate in the hall of the mountain king*
      I believe you are to be wronged here.
      Let's assume they force push de boolets because that would quick and effective. We must define what a force push actually is. Considering it can, you know, push an all manner of things, we shall assume that the push air forward.

      I'm talking about a most realistic way that we know how to and how most likely they could. Again, I'm not the most educated about star wars, but sound, as a movement of energy, is the most likely way you could do that.

      Tagan Oharren if kylo can stop a blaster bolt mid flight, fired from the position it was and have a conversation while it chills then release it without it losing its momentum, a moderately trained force user can stop a bullet. you can't forget this is a fictional topic, real logic isn't always applicable.
