    This video was heaven-sent, as my last night was filled with tears and agony - until I saw this video (and the longer one from the site) ! I especially found it encouraging to see how you showed a mommy trying to latch a baby on her “painful” side. I could totally identify and tried this on my painful side, too, and it was 100x better than prior sessions. So thankful!!!!

    Thank you for this information! I'm a mother of 5 breastfed babies and this is the very first time I've heard of trying this with a newborn. Over time I intuitively went to this position as they got bigger because I just got more tired of supporting them, but I never thought to try this positioning when they were newborns. I just watched the longer video that you linked in one of the comments, I've just had a very stress free feed so thank you! When can the more traditional positions begin to be used more easily, just thinking although this has worked a treat, how would this approach work whilst out and about..?

    • @NancyMohrbacher
      @NancyMohrbacher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When a newborn starts to get more head-and-neck control (usually about 4 to 6 weeks), they can more easily help themselves on deeper, even when you're sitting upright. But you can certainly try any positions you like when you're out and about at any time. I've sen many just move their hips forward in a chair and lean back a little to get the same effect, even in a public setting.

    • @NancyMohrbacher
      @NancyMohrbacher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's more important than how your nipple looks after feeding is: 1) Is nursing comfortable for you, and 2) Does your baby feed actively (lots of jaw movements)? If so, I wouldn't worry about how your nipple looks. If you develop pain or trauma, though, some adjustment is needed. Hope this helps!

But she’s now 6months and still having a problem with deep latch, can this position also help to fix her latch? Because this actually what the lactation counselor told me to do agter the incission but in my daughter’s early days I felt like I couldnt bear the pain I got on my body so I chose to breastfeed her while laying on bed

      Latching is usually easiest if you let baby do it in a Natural Breastfeeding position. In some cases, though, it may help to do a little breast shaping, making sure your breast is squeezed slightly in the shape of a hamburger (your fingers running parallel to baby's lip) rather than a taco (fingers perpendicular). I recommend watching our full-length video, which is free here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/ Best of luck!

      Every body type has its own challenges. I am tall and long-waisted, which can also be challenging. No matter what the body type, the key is to make adjustments until you and your baby find your own best fit. For more on specific adjustments to try, see our free longer video here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/

      Sidney Milagros, sorry you're having such a rough time! It's not too late! Sounds like you need one-on-one help. Is there someone (like a lactation consultant) you can see where your baby was born? It may also help to watch our free, longer video at: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/ I'll be thinking about you and hoping you have someone nearby who can help.

    • @NancyMohrbacher
      @NancyMohrbacher  ปีที่แล้ว

      It may help to work with a lactation consultant, as there are often small tweaks you can do that will make latching easier. Do you need help finding someone in your area? Often the place you gave birth can recommend local IBCLCs.

      Thank you, I have seen two lactation consultants. My next step is to see a body work specialist, as I was told he is really tight & making latching difficult. I was really stressed out last night when I made this comment. I gave his dad a bottle and left the room trying to find information on how I can get him to latch. It’s so hard bc I don’t want to give up

      Sounds like you need to make an adjustment. Many moms find that if they drop the arm that's supporting their baby's head just a little, that allows baby's head to tilt away from the breast and provide breathing space. Check out this video and notice this mom and baby's position, in which his nose is completely away from the breast: th-cam.com/video/-_cCvDhcjs4/w-d-xo.html

    My baby has become more aggressive from the time I tried to correct his laych

    • @NancyMohrbacher
      @NancyMohrbacher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sonia thomas, that sounds really distressing! When you say that you "tried to correct his latch," I'm not sure what you mean. Using the Natural Breastfeeding approach, the baby does the latching rather than being pushed on. In these positions, gravity helps baby get on deeper. To see more about the adjustments you can make, it may help to watch our longer video here: www.naturalbreastfeeding.com/

      @@NancyMohrbacher even I m in a laying back position still my baby tries to just clamp on to my nipple area mostly. The only time he opens his mouth wide open is wen I'm dream feeding him. Its 7 weeks and the latch is still painful

    • @NancyMohrbacher

      , it sounds like you need to see a lactation specialist, so she can see what's happening and figure out what will work for you and your baby. Where are are located (town/country)? Perhaps I can recommend somone.

      Jill Ronan, you're right that nothing works 100% of the time. Newborns, though, are born with innate reflexes that you can use to help them open wider.
