sold my driver about 3months ago as i replaced it with a 2iron and thats the best thing iv done for my golf game. In my bag iv got 2iron 3wood 4-pw irons a 52 and 60 degree wedges and my putter. Im happy with my game and play to my handicap so iv found the set up that works me me.

@@GolfMonthly definitely. Standing over a driver I had no idea what direction the ball would go give me my 2iron and Im confident that I will either be on the fairway or just to the edge of it.

Putter is the most important, guaranteed to hit 18 minimum and more likely 30+ a round, invest short game first

I’m in a tough spot because my 5 wood is only 1 degree off of my 4 iron, but my hybrid is 2 degrees off my 4. Should I keep the 5 wood, or eliminate the woods and keep the hybrid? Thanks

Mr T , that is all good and well but I have a tendency to say our 2nd hit drive of 274 yds now its a wedge in over a ditch up the bank to a high green slopes off right side of green bunker left side of green I hit PW because its shorter I am more sure of this club or 5 iron but 5 iron would be too far , I am frightened to hit the ground.

Mr Tapping , my name is Paul a 65 Yr old golfer and I carry the MAVRIK DRIVER 9° SET AT TOP D BOTTOM +1 And one of TAYLORMADE 300 series 7 wood , or 5 wood and like today the COBRA MAX RED 3 wood , my irons are WILSON D9 with speed slots of which my best 2 clubs are 4 iron and 7 iron . chipping is poor so I use 5 iron or pw . I do carry the D9 sand wedge and 52 ° but am so unreliable with those total clubs 12 in bag. SO AM I CARRYING THE CORRECT COMBERNATIONS ? TODAY WAS AN EXCEPTION I WAS +3 AFTER 9 +7 AFTER 15 HOLES BUT DROPPED 5 MORE SHOTS STILL SHOT 83 THOUGH .AND FINISHED 2ND BEHIND A LADY OFF 23 IN STOKEPLAY COMP . IS MY CHOICE OF CLUBS IN THE BAG CORRECT OR DO I NEED TO DROP ONE OR ADD ONE . BY THE WAY MY BEST DRIVE BEFORE THE MAVRIK WAS 240 NOW I AM HITTING LIKE TODAY ON SOME HOLES 273 274 YARDS . CAN YOU HELP PLEASE
    PAUL

I'm not too sure about what the "final" setup of my bag will be at the high end as I need to hit distances consistently first. So a bit of work needed there but for now it's Driver, 2i, 5 wood, 4-PW, 50, 54 and 50.
Very interesting to see all the comments on this for sure :-)

    8 iron
    P wedge
    Putter
I walk and carry, sometimes a driver gets added depending on the course and how reliable it is at the time. These clubs are the most reliable for me. It is most likely pure psych but it works for me and the bag is light.
    Great information in your videos.
    Have a nice day.

Sadly manufacturers competing for our attention and money have contributed to gapping and club playability issues for your average golfer. The obvious issue is strong lofts, requiring almost a second mini bag for our wedge collections. The second and less talked about is the longer irons with strong lofts, many 5irons have the equivalent lofts of an old 3/4 iron. How many of us enjoyed success with those. On a positive note most golfers could benefit by carrying long iron replacements. I would argue that manufacturers should fix the gap at the bottom and not require us to fill up our bags with wedges, and unwanted weight. Oh! Of course we can buy their lightweight bag to assist there, and their new " lightweight" distance, spinning ball! Ha!

I know this sounds strange, but for the really keen golfers it is actually sometimes good to make your selection on the conditions of the day- so having 15 or 16 clubs in the boot to select from can help. e.g. course condition hard or soft, rough height, wind condition etc The most common area I believe is the choice of a 5 wood versus a 19 hybrid

@@GolfMonthly have you heard the story ( maybe its a myth) but Ben Hogan would have planned the round in his head and knew for example that he would not need a 7 iron for that day........ plays in perfect weather and course conditions....... I think it was in reference to a statement he made where his game got to the point where he never worried about his striking performance week to week, he was that consistent.

@@ajaytuk7416 I think its a fair point, having an extra wedge so you have a different bounce/loft/grind option, a utility and hybrid to rotate to change ball flight depending on the day, that being said how many people can afford an extra £2/300 on clubs they might only use a handful of times a year? I've had my bag fitted to allow these sort of changes within my 14 clubs

@@neiltaylor1765 I did say really keen golfers :-) - I understand its not really what you guys really want to talk about, but there are plenty of really good second options especially for single fairway woods and wedges. Maybe a good question to ask for the future, what do punters do when they buy new, do they always trade in, sell on ebay, or keep? I don't update often but I am a collector :-)

Dr, 3w, Hy2, Hy4, 5i - PW, 54 and 60 wedges & Putter. I also have 50 wedge but it goes the same distance as my PW so it's a wasted club in my bag that I've got to do something about.

If the higher lofted club goes the same distance as your lower lofted club, use the higher one as it will stop better on the green

I've recently ditched the gap wedge for a 5 wood. I find it easier to knock 15 yards (about) off a PW than it was to hit a 3 hybrid 15 yards longer or 3 wood 15 yards shorter. Also ditched the hybrid for a 7 wood. As a 2.2 handicap index golfer hybrids seem to go left on me. I liked being able to play it from poor lies 200 plus so the 7 wood was the next step and its great. Dr, 3w, 5w, 7w, 4-pw, 54, 60 and putter.

A 5-wood and even 7-wood (DJ carried one at the Masters) is the flavour of the year. The important thing to know is that you have options at the top of the bag whether it's woods, hybrids, hollow or regular irons to be able to hit the yardage without gaps. It all comes down to personal preference and the shots you like to play

Most people just carry named brads to look good, all the gear no idea, just use what your comfortable with, all i have in my bag is a driver, 3 and 5 fairway woods, 2 hybrids, 7 and 9 irons and 2 wedges 1 putter, why carry so many clubs, you don't need too, why why 14 club's really do you use them, just stick to the clubs you are using don't just carry clubs for the sake of it.
