How Dangerous The Mirage 2000 Fighter Plane Of IAF Is?

  • The Indian Air Force's (IAF) fleet of fighter jets will soon include 24 more 'Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft', which carried out successfull operation in Pakistan.Out of these 24 fighter planes, 8 are in ready to fly condition. the IAF has signed a contract worth 27 million to buy the fighter jets
The IAF had procured around 50 fourth generation Mirage 2000 C and B fighter jets in 1985 with a maintenance contract that expired in 2005. This was followed by another contract with the French original equipment manufacturer in 2015-2016. After which in 2015, India got upgraded Mirage-2000 fighter aircraft which were equipped with new radar and electronic systems.
the reaSON INDIAN AIRFORCE signed this deal is because These aircraft are going out of circulation in France and there is an urgent need of 300 critical spare parts like engines and airframes of these 24 fighter jets which are in good condition
The Mirage-2000 is undoubtedly one of the Indian Air Force's (IAF) most versatile and deadliest aircraft. The Mirage-2000 uses a single shaft engine called SNECMA M53-P2 engine that is light and simple as compared to other fighter jet engines. In comparison, India's other fighter and more advanced fighter jet - the Russia made Sukhoi Su30MKI has a speed of 2120 kmph (Mach 2), slower than the Mirage-2000 and is heavier too. This gives the Mirage-2000 an advantage in quick operations.
The Mirage 2000 has a fly-by-wire flight control system and has a Sextant VE-130 HUD, which displays data related to flight control, navigation, target engagement, and weapon firing.
In terms of the armament, Mirage 2000 has nine hard points for carrying weapon system payloads: five on the fuselage and two on each wing. The single-seat version is armed with two internally mounted, high-firing-rate 30mm guns.the Mirage 2000 can carry laser guided bombs, air-to-air missiles like the MICA multitarget air-to-air intercept and combat missiles, and the Magic 2 combat missiles, both from MBDA and air-to-surface missiles and has a RDY 2 (Radar Doppler Multi-target) radar on board which can strike at targets with 100 per cent accuracy.

@Avronil Basu they don’t have enough life to be used for 10-12 years, they’re mainly for spare parts because France doesn’t manufacture them anymore. So anything India can’t manufacture, they would need to acquire them through second hand planes

Exactly. Even if Mirage is not a stealth aircraft, he can fly without undetected by radars. That's why IAF chose Mirage for Balakot Air Strike, because of his capabilities to enter into another country's airspace without alerting their Air Force and also his( Mirage 2000) major role during Kargil War

The US created Pakistan in the post WW2 era to prevent the possibility of a large United India to align with the Soviets.
Also, the US likes Pakistan for its excellent geo-strategic location. The US gets a base to have strategic options against Central Asia (Russia), China, Iran, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan itself.
And above all, the US can take Pakistan on rent for a few billion dollars in the form of CSF, US Aid, IMF loans, etc.
On the long term strategic chessboard, the US views India as a superpower and a tough competitor. As such, the US would like to slow India’s growth and influence. Furthermore, the US would like to use Pakistan as a leverage, while dealing with India, as long as it is possible.
If Pakistan is dismembered into peaceful countries such as Balochistan, Sindhudesh etc, then these countries would not let the US have its way so easily. In fact, these countries would be pro-India, and the US would lose so many of its geo-strategic advantages.
Last but not the least, the India-Pakistan conflict provides the US military-industrial complex the opportunity to earn billions of dollars a year. The US sells military equipment to both Pakistan and India. For instance, from F16s to Pakistan to C130 globemasters to India, and to bullets to both the countries. Once Pakistan is dismembered, the US would bleed hundreds of billions of dollars a year.
That’s why the US ignores the nastiest of Pakistani actions against America itself, India, Afghanistan and the world. Osama Bin Laden was found in Pakistan, and that too just 800 meters away from the Pakistani Army Cantonment, for crying out loud.
The US foreign policy principle of “There are no permanent friends, there are no permanent enemies, there are only permanent opportunities” is the biggest threat to world peace. Yes, even bigger than terrorism and CCP (Chinese Communist Party).

Yes but. Whenever I think about 1947 partition , it makes me so worried. If that disaster not happened then we wouldn't have much pressure in south asia. Also we would have been concentrated in infrastructure more than military. But sadly , bcz of arrogance & intolerant GB did that to avoid India's supremacy in future. But to me , if a war broke out , India should annexe pakistan. And also it shouldn't care about international pressure like what it had in 1965. This is the permanente solution for better India and also for peace in south asia.

      1. Qatari mirages are of scrap value, because they were used in desert condition one can't salvage anything from them (one IAF engineer joked 👉 parts can easily removed without use of any tools).
      2. Only other place India can look for buying more mirages is from Tiwan, these have been used for less flying hours, dasault or OEM are ready to help with that (infact they were very keen on completing that deal & eshtablish mro for them in India as part of Rafael offset contract) but they are asking more money (unused jets pe "kundli maarke🐍" baite hai) , Two IAF negotiation team have tried their best. Hope after this deal, Tiwan deal will also fructify.
      3. Dasault was very impressed with IAFs upkeep & updating of mirage. They are convinced that only IAF can fly them for another 10-15 years. That helps with confidence on their products (they will claim 👉 our Mirages are still being flown by IAF). Mirages are very close to French hearts. They helped France to assert it's position of strength in gulf region without American assistance - Algeria, Chad etc.

Russia is a versatile ally as it has too much links with China as the war in ukrain has shown... in the case of Russia had to choose between India and China, there's no doubt that Russia would sacrifice India and would prefer then China... France has been insulted by her own ally US/Uk in the irakish affair then more recently in the australian affair, nevertheless, she remained attached to her words with NATO and will be in occidental camp when it's right and when it's important.

IAF needs 24 retired Dassault MIRAGE 2000-9 TI multi role interdictor strike fighter that will be salvaged for vital parts to keep it's existing fleet of 69 upgraded Dassault MIRAGE 2000 TI multi role interdictor strike fighter running in top shape which is understandable . . . but at the same time IAF should also acquire a fleet of 33 - 38 additional ex-Armée De L 'Air Dassault MIRAGE 2000 TI multi role interdictor strike fighter that'll operate in parallel to IAF's existing fleet of 69 upgraded Dassault MIRAGE 2000 TI multi role interdictor strike fighter . . .

How dangerous is Mirage 2000? Very very very very very very dangerous.
Technically it has the delta wings which excel in performance at higher speeds or supersonic speeds. Speed is everything in battle.

India should buy as many as second hand mirages, offered to purchase.
Drdo techs. can improve them to newer conditions.. buy from France all machines used to make
parts with mirages, along with “ design measurements for each part”. There could be 100s of
machine shops in India who could make parts, wine used part supplied as a sample

The cost is misleading as the aircraft will undergo a comprehensive refitting, but there is no doubt that it is a good investment. India needs the Gripen to replace the MiG 21's in order to have a good low cost to maintain and operate fighter for roles like patrol where the use of the Rafael, SU 30MKI and other high performance jets would be overkill

Leave aside the avionics, the by-default arsenal available on Rafale is too good an offer to overlook. Our own platforms must be developed but there's no harm in procurement of top of the line combat proven fighters.
