Just ran into this today in North Carolina and it’s been over 13 hours and it still feels like ever joint, bone, and muscle in my arm is on fire and the point of contact feels like someone is twisting a dagger into it
I got stung by one a while back. The burning sensation lasted about 36 hours, the bone hammering sensation lasted about 48 hours and the pain went from my thumb all the way up to my arm.
I can confirm. My arm felt like someone slammed it in a door as hard as they could. Not exaggerating. The pain lasted at that severity for about 12 hours, then slowly got better, ending in itching for about a week.
A smaller version of this caterpillar was on my garden, and I didn't notice it was on a flower pot and I grabbed it and I got stung... It was the most terrible pain I've ever felt... it lasted for hours and left my fingers with lots of ulcers like little bubbles... soon as I found this channel I scrolled down to see if there was a video about this little monster
There was a hole near the top of the leaf and he found a short broken branch to hang it on. ;o But funnier to think he just insta-grafted it back on there. lol
I remember once when I was like 7 yo and a friend of mine touch one of those at school, he immediately started screaming and crying, next day he got fever and missed school for a week. He's still alive.

I got stung by a tiny one in my yard right on my wrist and it somehow got on my shirt while I was working in my yard and when I brushed my wrist on the side was when I felt it and got it off my shirt and it did feel like a spark from a fire did get onto me and it was quite painful though luckily an ice pack helped it cool down and recover from it.
As a child at summer camp I ran into a bush that had a couple of these on the leaves. They stung me good on my back. Ill never forget the pain. I feared them more than the cotton mouths and water moccasins the rest of that summer

I've got to be honest, most people tell me things like ticks or spiders make their skin crawl, but I don't have issues with them. Hairy/fuzzy caterpillars on the other hand, whole other story. Even just seeing pictures or videos of them makes my skin crawl and the way they look while moving is just so unsettling for me. Same thing with centipedes to a lesser extent.

I’ve been stung by a puss (asp) caterpillar in Louisiana. They are in many states. I couldn’t walk without holding onto a wall for a week. My eyes blurred & I had to have 3 eye prescriptions the first year as my vision fluctuated another year. The pain was intense, but I was much more worried about my vision & dizziness. Ice helped with pain. They fall from oak trees. I’ve never heard of anyone with this reaction before. Children in Texas have died from its sting. The feet sting as well.

I’ve been stung by a puss (asp) caterpillar in Louisiana. They are in many states. I couldn’t walk without holding onto a wall for a week. My eyes blurred & I had to have 3 eye prescriptions the first year as my vision fluctuated another year. The pain was intense, but I was much more worried about my vision & dizziness. Ice helped with pain. They fall from oak trees. I’ve never heard of anyone with this reaction before. Children in Texas have died from its sting. The feet sting as well.
