Not everyone hated him. I saw in a documentary where one of his co-stars said that Oliver saw she was upset and bought her a nice bouquet of flowers and was very sensitive and attentive to her. "He was a nice guy", she said. Can't recall her name, but she spoke kindly of Oliver with that story, but was also aware and confirmed that she was sad about Oliver's other side. Oliver was a man of multiple layers (as are we all).
@@lukasmiller486, possibly. Oliver was a person of many layers (as we all are). One of my friends' Dads met Mr Reed and they said Oliver was a very nice man.

@gavinreid8937 I also heard Shani Wallis also said Oliver was rather 🤫 quiet while making Oliver! (1968) and kept to himself quite a deal while making the film. Oliver was a true professional when he had to be. Most of those who worked with him have said he was the total professional on set and always on time and polite and generally gracious to the cast, technicians, crew, etc. As for Gladiator (2000), Oliver had about three weeks left to shoot and promised Ridley he'd not drink while shooting (contrary to Russell Crowe's words) and worked around this by only drinking on the weekends. Unfortunately, he did go on a bender on his last day and arm wrestled sailors, which caused his heart attack, so he never finished Gladiator (2000) fully. Nonetheless, he did a great job and many regard Gladiator (2000) as his best role.
A true unique guy, a proper old school chap. He lived how he wanted and lived life to the full. Enjoyed many of his acting roles, Castaway 1986 was a gem of a film. Cheers Ollie and God bless
Get your facts straight He didn't die in his hotel. I was in the pub and I spoke to the owner who said Oliver died in his seat and nobody noticed for quite a while. My brother and I sat in the exact spot and had a drink together to remember him. We even went upstairs where he used to arm wrestle the sailors and always win.

Don't aspire to that. He had insecurities and childhood trauma that he buried and hid behind a characters he played. Completely at the mercy of the curse of chronic alcahol addiction. He was just like my dad. Loved him to bits but he had some horrible characters too. Don't aspire to this version of a 'man'

She was not much of a mother. I think Reed's liver probably hated him more than any of his co-stars ever could. It's just surprising that it didn't give out long before he had that heart attack.
Why the fk are you showing pictures of billy conelly, Dudley more and robin Williams and then Paul McCartney with Kieth moon, I gave up after that, at least show pictures of oliver reed.

One of the best Film Actors. Much underrated.
Yes I agree
Ollie was a national treasure . We love talented lunatics .
Loved him in the 3 Musketeers films/Oliver/Hannibal Brooks etc. He was a fine actor despite the drink, taken way too soon.......
He wasn't taken, as if he was a passive part of it. He drank himself to death.
Suggesting that our Olly was not professional on set? What a load of balls.
He was brilliant in Hannibal Brooks !!
Really enjoyed that film

@JamesMartin-jg8mz: When I think of what a real man is - I think of Oliver Reed.

He was a terrific actor but seemed to have a self destruct mentality. Reading his biography, I think his mother's loose lifestyle affected him deeply

“Pub crawl with Steve McQueen”. Ha ! Would love to have been a witness to THAT !
Bette Davis said of Oliver Reed after working with him in Burnt Offerings(1976), 'a more vile creature I have never met'
