  • An honest review of the gluten free food situation on Virgin Voyages. I am coeliac myself and so understand the stress of travelling with a dietary requirement.
We sailed on Valiant Lady in October 2022 on a press trip and thankfully the food was one of the reasons our trip was so successful.

Thank you so much. I wanted to book a virgin voyages cruise and this was the only thing that was holding me back, nothing worse than going on holiday and not being able to enjoy the food, great to hear that there is sufficient gluten free options. Just cruised on Celebrity Beyond and it was great for coeliacs. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this video, very helpful! I was bummed to see the pizza menu with no gluten free options but glad they will accommodate on the ship!

Thank so much for your video, it is so nice to have a video like this! I wanted to try Virgin Voyages mainly for the food, but every video I watched I kept wondering what I would have to miss out on. After watching this I am so excited. The pizza, muffins, cookies and sandwiches are so exciting. Those without a gluten allergy or even sensitivity don’t understand how exciting to be able to eat those things. Do you have to ask at most places or do they have the items out and labeled?

Thank you for watching and commenting!
Every restaurant is table service so they always ask for any allergies, but equally I’m sure all the menus were also labeled GF without asking

Thank you! I have been so concerned about how accommodating they would be and if there would be just as many yummy options!

This is such a helpful video! Were you able to bring snacks off the ship for excursions? I’m conscious that I might struggle to find suitable restaurants when out and about.

I am so pleased you found it helpful! YES you’re allowed to take snacks off the ship. We did this multiple times. We would grab stuff from the coffee shop or the galley or even room service muffins etc.

Does the yummy food taste a little bit salty from room service to the 24-hour restaurant?

Worries me about cross contamination, did you have any issues? I, too and celiac (severe) and something like this would ruin my cruise.

The only issue I ever had about cc was the hash browns. But in Virgin’s defence I just very quickly in a passing by comment, late at night for a snack, asked one of the waiters if they were GF (without noting that I was coeliac) and he told me they were - technically he was correct, but I was informed the next day by my sit down waiter who asked for allergens that the hash browns weren’t suitable for coeliacs bc of cross contamination in the fryer. I did have an upset stomach after this.
I personally found every other instant to be really well handled and didn’t have any more problems and my stomach was completely fine for the rest of the trip so I know there wasn’t an ounce of gluten in anything I ate.
I will note though that I personally always eat out at restaurants etc that ‘share the same kitchen and can’t guarantee 100% allergen free’ because I am not extremely sensitive and share a kitchen at home with normal gluten food cooked in it.
In all honesty though, I’m not sure you would find a better cruise ship catering for allergies than virgin due to them being so current and ‘woke’. 🚢
