Idyllwild is a beautiful place... I'm just getting into downhill and free ride. I went to a place outside San Luis Obispo, CA on another local spot. More for rock crawling and offroading in 4x4's but hike a bike in effect for sure. Watching folks bomb hills like that scares the shit out of me
I helped build this trail and have ridden it countless times over the years with many fast mf-ers and Gwin's speed on it leaves me in awe. RIPPER

To keep that bike under control like that is pure wizardry!!!
Bikes made specifically for "downhill mountain biking" are usually characterized by big front and rear suspensions, big fat tires and no rear derailleur (to avoid loosing your chain when blazing down a burly track at like 50mph).
They're also pretty heavy because all the components have to be sturdy to handle the shocks (some frames are made out of carbon, but with wheels, forks, suspension and everything, it's still really heavy.

If I have my enduro or all mountain bike I normally ride the trail but if it is my demo 8 I get a ride from my friend.

He had a bike with (arguably) the best geometry for the UCI courses for the last 2 years. he changed sponsors in january, only 5 months before the world cup started, and had a COMPLETELY different bike so obviously it takes more than 5 months to get used to it.
