    by no means am i recommending this, but on my patches i do use minoxidil twice a day, peppermint essential oil with some peppermintish beard butters at night, and dermarolling once a week. and my patches have seen insane progress on bringing out the potential of what beard i do genetically have there.
    EDIT: if anyone is interested, i can show you my before and after(which is basically current since i still use it) with minoxidil

      Do you use peppermint essential oil all by itself or do you mix it with castor oil or some other oil?

    • @senhorbrasil5921

      @Guaymito Bearded peppermint oil by itself is dangerous to use since it is very potent stuff. i dilute it with jojoba and jamaican black castor oil. i personally dont have any thin oils yet for my rotation(cant wait to try beard octane) so i use more jojoba than castor, about 75/25 ratio and 12 drops of peppermint. all goes into a leftover 1ml beard oil bottle

    I use a roller to fill in my patches on my cheeks my hair had always grown along the jaw line and then straight from my side burn to my stach with a big gap between.
    I’ve been using it only for a short time maybe 2-3 months. I, my barber, and my partner have all noticed a difference. It’s not perfect yet and my right side is doing better than my left.
    I use it twice a week after my I get out of the shower (on the same day as I use my beard exfoliant), before I put on my beard oil.

    In Jan I had never heard of a derma roller, now in March, I can attest to the fact that at least for ME it works very well. I used it once and immediately put minoxidil on a patchy spot. The second time minoxidil alone. A week later I had hair growing in the patch spot. They were little hairs but hey any size is welcome. Now after a month I can tell the hair on my hairless patch is filling in. I also use Rosemary oil along with derma roller which has been scientifically shown to spark hair growth. It is a slow process but I can see the results. So, give it a try - good luck

    When I used it at the beginning of my beard growth, all I noticed was very thin, blonde hairs growing in my patchy spots. One or two hairs here and there. I used it for a solid 6 months. It wasn't worth it for me. Eventually my beard filled in regardless. Can't see my trouble spots unless I showed you.

    This is an interesting subject. I was thinking about using a Dermarolling tool in my weak areas but I decided against it. I don't want to start adding chemicals or damage existing hairs in my beard. I will continue my research and see what happens in the next 3-6 months.

    Statistically, there's a few reasons why a study might fall into that grey area of "could argue the results either way". Most common would be a failure to control for all important variables in the study design. Then there is also something called statistical power. Low-powered studies are very common, especially in new and emerging areas of science like this one, where the ignorance to knowledge ratio is quite high in the early stages. As you say, Dan, time will tell (maybe...).
    Personally, I consult a specialist (dermatologist or similar) before doing anything skin-related, but I have a history of dermatological issues so perhaps I am overly cautious. Another very interesting video, thank you Dan!

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you feel dermatologists have a higher level of understanding of beards, facial hair, or the skin underneath? My experience is that those areas are often the areas of least experience/knowledge for them. My sample size is very small though!

    • @JimboSRP
      @JimboSRP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanCBearded No, not specifically with beards and hair in my experience, though I suppose some may specialise in those areas (mine doesn't). I'd trust a dermatologist's opinion on my face skin over my GP's opinion every day of the week. That's no disrespect to my GP, just a matter of expertise.

The topical treatments that I have used after dermarolling have been natural oil blends. The few companies that I have used are Raw SHB, Evan Alexander and Hair Growth Co. I have 2 questions; one is kind of relevant the other is just an ask on clarification of something you talk about all the time.
    1. When it comes to stimulating follicle growth I think in your carrier oil series I believe castor oil you said it can stimulate beard hair growth if I'm not mistaken. Are their other oils that behave similarly that stimulate the follicles for better beard growth? Could you make a video About that?
    2. You often emphasize to apply beard oil to a damp beard and wait 5 minutes. Now let's say I take a shower in the evening before bed; I get out of the shower and apply my beard oil to my damp beard. Do I also immediately apply beard butter or wait 5 minutes then apply the beard butter or wait 5 minutes, then redampen my beard then apply beard butter?

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) check this video out: th-cam.com/video/210Q0Duva4k/w-d-xo.html
      2) wait 5 minutes after oil to apply butter. Your beard hairs will already have the moisture locked in and the hairs will have oil on them so the butter spreads evenly

    Just curious if you use a derma roller, do you have to continuously use it forever like minoxidil and if you stop using it, the progress it is offered to you will fall out over time and revert back to before you were ever using it? No plans of considering using a derma roller at this time and will never use minoxidil.

    I've been derma rolling + using minoxidil since July, and I still don't have a clear answer. The thing is, I started using these things almost immediately after starting to grow my first beard ever, so it's hard to say how much of my gains can be contributed to derma rolling, minoxidil, or just natural growth, but I do believe the combo has had a positive impact, the hair on my cheeks, which is the main area I've focused on, has definitely become denser over the months. I've also added applying a mix of castor oil, peppermint oil and rice bran oil just recently. My advice, try it all, something is likely to have some positive impact.

    I personally did try this. Now that being said when I tried it, I was 23 and now am 24. I used it for about 6 months whiling having a beard to cover those patches before shaving it off and starting off because I hate being shaved. When I did try this u was using beard supplements with only 5,000 mcg of biotin because I was also using biotin beard oil, shampoo and conditioner. This was only used to help boost growth in my patch areas because I had a rather thick beard other than those two decent sized spots. I did try to thicken up my mustache area as well. The two patches did fill in for the most part but you wouldn't really notice. Mustache had absolutely no difference after my 6 months course of rolling every Monday and Friday so I the skin would have time to heal. If you're looking into this and are thinking about it for filling in patches I'd say do it, worth case your are out 20-30$ for the roller. I've seen plenty say it work but equally just as many say it doesn't. About the time I stopped is when I found Dan C and learned that I am truly the my biggest Critic when it comes to my beard. Also stick around for major tips on beards and over all health. The community and dan himself are absolutely amazing

    I have been doing this for a few months now. When I first started, I followed it up with the castor oil/peppermint oil mix. On days where I use the derma roller now, I just follow it with just castor oil. On the other nights I go back to using the mixture. I have noticed some growth in my weak spots, but that can very well just be from the mixture too. I also wasnt consistent much with the roller and a lot of times just do it once a week.

    I purchased a few of the derma rollers in various sizes .25, .50 and even a 1.0, I didn’t notice a difference. I’m going to start again on one small spot and follow it with your recommendation of castor, peppermint, and rice bran oil on that spot to see if I notice better results.

    I am guessing this for people early in their beard journeys. I might think of using it for my head hair. Great information DanC.

    I tried it for a little while. I might not have tried it for long enough but I didn't see noticeable results. Personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Rock what you got and find a beard style that works for you.

    I can vouch for some hair regrowth. I regrew my hair on my head with minoxidil, a biotin gummy, and a prescription of finasteride from the company hims.

      I agree with the Rock what you got, however, doesn't mean you shouldn't make it even better if you can. For instance, there is that one spot on my cheek that somehow has nothing growing there, which forces me to shave my cheek line lower than I'd like, and I also wish I had hair growing on my neck to make my beard fuller, but I literally got like 5 hairs growing in the Adams apple area😂
