3:13 one of my favorite photographers Jake Wangner mentioned in a subscriber video of his that Cinestill 800t actually reproduces the color red better than any film or digital camera sensor for that matter so I guess even though we can push and pull the color in post there's something to be said about the raw data in the negative.
At 6:09 No Photos! ..lol. I ran out of all my color film for 35mm except for one roll of Cinestill 800T. I've been avoiding buying more c41 because of the increased cost (mostly sticking with b&w these days), and haven't wanted to shoot this roll in the daylight, but watching your video has made me re-think that decision. 🤔
Yeah, it’s very costly to shoot film in general right now!! I have shot this in night time a couple of times now, shooting at night it’s pretty cool too.
The shot at 8:05 is that thread you see to slay the demon. I love that shot! It feels so candid and since I'll probably never meet this model, I feel like this the picture that would define her personality. Overall this shoot was a success! I also like that shot of the halation on her back.
I think the demon slayer thread is exactly what happens in my mind every time I see an absolutely beautiful moment!!✨( I love that scene). She is not a professional model but she is so pretty, I just love her eyes and her energy!! That was also our first time meeting each other, I’m so happy that she trusted me with these photos!!
Beautiful shots, you are a true inspiration for portraits. I think, in case you don’t have a cable release you could use the selftimer as it releases the mirror first, but there still might be shake…

After watching this video, I think I'm gonna try my first ever Cinestill 800T film in direct sunlight without any filter and see how the result would look like. There seems to be difference between 800T and original Kodak 500T besides the extra layer.
Changing ISO on film camera: A serious photog taught me an ancient technique of rewinding a film, writing the frame. Later, pull out the film leader, lens cap on, shoot past that frame, continue shooting. I tried this a few times while at anime con.😂😂😂
Wait… I’m confused, do you mean double expose it but for the same frame??? It would be difficult for the model and the camera to still very still for 2 shots… but that sounds like a genius idea~~~ if I understand this right~
@@itscapturedbysam sorry sorry, I leave the lens cap on. I shoot past the frame number on the partial used roll (no exposure due to lens cap). I finish off the roll of film. Using a film leader extractor is easier. I used soda can to make a film extractor. Also business cards if I was desperate 🙈

CineStill is still Kodak film. Color negative is meant to be interpreted and edited. You’d do color balancing even when making an analog darkroom print. And the white balance is just that, a very basic tint adjustment, it really doesn’t change the underlying color science or base color. That’s what the scanner model and LUTs in NLP do. And you’re right, the look is up to you. You can choose a certain stock for the look it gives you right away but you can also edit any stock to look the way you want and choose the stock based on your practical needs. Again, the same thing was done back when every image was an analog print. The paper, or scanner, or NLP settings can have at least as big an effect on the look of the image as the film you shoot with. And you can edit your image from the most complex Lightroom manipulations to simple global RGB and density printer points like lab scanners and color enlargers use. There is not right or wrong, it’s what feels and looks right for you.

I normally would spot meter for model’s face, I don’t mind the background blow out a bit~ if I’m going for a specific look, like more moody, more contrasty look, ill underexposed the face a bit, or I’ll meter the sky.. it really depends..
It is an expensive film I have to say.. and we don’t even have other film on the market that’s Tungsten balance.. keep wondering and let me know if you find the answer!! 🤓

I don't kow what people did to edit and manipulate photos after processing before the digital age. I'm very curious about it but I don't find many resources. I am starting out...(took a film class in college and have developed black and white myself but I'm interested now in colour) ...I would be happy to learn to do the computery stuff, but my heart wants to know everything we did before without computers.
The way it looks in the daylight reminds me of how everything looks after ive taken a nap outside. because light is filtered through the skin of my eyelids it has a very red look and my brain's wb adjusts to this. then when i open my eyes everything looks blue by comparison for a bit.

I use a light meter app for a lot of my Hasselblad shot, normally I would be fine, but if it’s back light, or high contrast light.. you can’t see spot meter I don’t think.. it’ll just give you an overall metering..
I always liked the look of this film for daylight, even for portraits. And let's be honest, if you're going out at night to shoot this filme, you better do something really special, because at some point all the pictures start looking the same, it's just a big halation fest.
But it’s more than that though… I didn’t another test after this shoot, the characters of different film still varies… I guess we will find our answers when shot more and more films~ 🤓
Ben Horne (large format photographer) says to get two cable releases. Because one will eventually break on you. and you don't want to be without one, when you need it.
I mostly shoot wide open, depending on what lens I shoot with, most of them are at 2.8f. And a few of them are not shot at wide open I also specified in the video. I’ll make mental note for future shoots 🤓
Cinestill 800T is actuall Kodak 500T film. I shoot it all the time. I buy 400 feet cans of Kodak 500T and I roll my own film. From the 400 feet, I can roll about 76 canisters of 36 exposure. My cost is about $5 a roll. I also shoot the film at 500 most of the time. I dont have problems with halation since 500T still has the film remjet. I develop my own film and most of the remjet comes right off in the rinse but I do a wipe of the film using a wet microfiber cloth to remove any remaing remjet.
@@itscapturedbysam Awesome! Just remember you have to develop it yourself or find someone that can deal with the remjet. Like I said it literally wipes right off after the rinse cycle! Have fun!

Omg.. this is why I don’t want to develop my own film coz I’m a very clumsy person I’ll forget time,temperature, and developer and everything… 🧪🥹 but it’s cheaper??
I know people all have short attention spans now, but I find myself being frustrated by having to pause everytime I want to quickly see the differences. I get that time is an issue in editing...I would just like a fraction of a second longer to ponder each photo side by side comaprison and I'm hoping others who are into real film would too. I guess I'm too old to understand this world where tik tok videos have funny phrases in frame so quick you have to press pause. lol

I like this video photo especially 6 mins. I used 1V too, Also use 1N and Pentax 645N, I have been used Cinestill 50D more.😀
