If you want the achievement of not using the anvil to kill the boss just switch to torches on all of your Melee characters since those do bludgeoning damage. It is super easy. It died in two turns.
Great Tip, I just gave everybody blind weapons, Blood of Lathander for SH, Defender Flail for Astarion, & 2 Hammers for Karlach & Lae'zel, action surge & he was pretty much easy
The easiest way I did this was I sneaked someone on the valve to pour out the lava, then have someone stand near the hammer. So when the combat begins the one near the valve isn’t included. After the grym got close to the hammer with half of his body exposed to the lava. I hammered him then have the one who is sneaking open up the lava which makes grym vulnerable again. Which then I just repeat those. He didn’t even hit me once.
That is a good method, however it will cause the mold chamber to jam. Forcing you to make two of whatever original mold you placed in. If you want to make two different things you can’t use the hammer to hurt or kill Grym.
@@JA-fp3bk actually I was able to get all mold. I just brought the platform up. Have a long rest and came back and tried to bring the platform back down and I was able to pour the lava again.
Simple method is just have someone with Fly or Misty step and have them go all the way to the waypoint for the forge, and then everyone else use the waypoint to join up. Easy.
Skip the puzzle, there is a path on the left of the island (there you have the fight /nere. Bilnk around, tag the portal. Send ur peeps to camp, port the group to the portal! Couldn't find the malachite tho, thanks!!!
For some reason my monk with the sparkle hands absolutely bodied the construct, I didn't even realize the hammer could be used because it melted through him so fast
You don't need to move the rubble, just go to where Nere is and you can jump to the platform area. You also don't need to split party etc, just follow the elevated walkthrough and have somebody shoot the lever. Or skip all of that, in the Nere room cross the two planks, look up then teleport to the other side where there is a mould. Although that'll probably mean you missed all other moulds.
killed him with the press only got one item from forge. His armor blocks me from using forge again. Would recommend finishing him with blunt weapons away from press.
I thought the same thing but what I think it actually is, is that you can only use the lava wheel twice. So if you don't manage to kill him in the turns it takes for him to no longer be super heated you effectively can't get more than one item.
i can confirm that you can actually make 2 pieces of weapons/armour at the adamantite forge. I found another mithril location in the area, grabbed it, jumped back down into the forge and put in a new template of what i wanted as well as the mithril, put more lava in and smacked it down. :D
Hmm decisions decisions, Sword or Heavy armor, I mean I only made one thing last time, didn't know I could make two things, I gave Lae'zel the Helldusk armor & that was great, Karlach had the Adamantine splint medium armor, my Tav had the Dex armor(no Tav this time) SH(me) will have the Dark Justicier armor, open 4th slot will go to Minthara(if the method finally worked this time) or Jaheira, loved her in my previous playthough multiclassed her with fighter & gave her the poison Halberd & SA, she hit like a truck & I gave her good armor, point is we were beating ass until the follow bug kicked in & I subbed her out, so point is we were doing good without the heavy armor & the sword so I don't know if I need the armor or even the sword for that matter, I don't use mace's or shields. Hmmm that ignoring slash resistance sounds good though..
Edit: this seems to either be a bug for me and many others or simply a chance for the wheel to freeze for whatever reason. Worth noting that the lava wheel can only be turned twice, in or out of combat. So if you don't kill the guy within the turns it takes after one turn then you can effectively only get one item unless I guess you load a new mold and mithril mid combat.
@jongraham2618 I think I have an older save file I'll give that a shot for science. I didn't try loading things when the platform was raised I just raised and lowered it and just couldn't reflow the lava. What I ended up doing to make two pieces is just save scum until I could kill the boss in one turn of the lava wheel.
@@Cal-El I think I'm just coming across the wheel sticking for me. Like Jon said above you, if you throw a bottle of grease at the wheel it gets the wheel going again if it sticks.
So when I fight Grym he doesn’t target anyone and won’t go near the center. I don’t understand why. Every time it’s his turn the prime target condition goes away and it attacks whoever it wants. I’ve looked into it and I haven’t seen anyone else with this problem.
After making my 2 sets of armor I tried using the adamantite slag that I found somewhere - it doesn't work. I wonder if you can reforge magic weapons by putting them in the chamber?
I'm girl bossin it for my first playthru, so I chose the heavy armor for Lae'zel, and since Karlach is fine with just her birthday suit and some bracers of defense, I went with a shield for Shadowheart for my 2nd item. QUESTION: Since the adamantine forge unintuitively demands mithril, does that mean we need to find a mithril orge now to make use of our adamantine ore ? Im just about to start act 2 so i dunno yet.
@@fancyman6862 no there isn't, hence why you haven't found them, I'm a guy who explored everything plus I looked it up, this whole video tells you that there's too 💀

Yea on this playthrough I died vs things I beat as a newbie all cause of die rolls & chances, it can be annoying when you want to play for a set time & get something done in game so you don't have to worry about it the next time you play. Almost similar to fighting Minthara, the whole trying to knock her out method while she's one shotting my people to death had me stuck on that part for a whole 8 hours no exaggeration do while that is the worst thing possible I did have 2 hours I'm trying to get past certain things only for the game to crash on me so I had to do it all over again luckily I saved right before the fight.
What about making the valve to get unstuck ? I just can't rotate it with any character, throwing stuff at it. I'm on my second play through, and it seems this part got bugged again for me.
I don’t think you’re using the right valve. There’s a small twisting button near the lift platform with the lever, that brings you back up after the fight. The lava controls are a massive wheel like a pirate ship steering wheel on the opposite side
Getting the guy to land on/near the hammer while superheated is the trick. I used shadowheart and glyph of warding:sleep. Works like a .. ahem... dream. (Ba dum bum)
Can I still do all of this if I left and came back and everyone was dead lol, wasn’t on purpose but I am way to far vested to go back to an older save.
I'm on that part as well . And for the second time, it seems bugged. Maybe because to move the forge down, close to the Lava, I did not do like he showed in the vídeo. I ended up falling down , almost died with my character... down there was a valve to bring the forge down ... also, there is a button that should take the forge back up , but it also does not work.
Thanks for the guide but one thing I found annoying is the way you explained had me going back and forth multiple times when all of this could've been explained by going in order :(
There were 3 pieces of the material I went for a weapon, a shield and a helmet so everyone in the party could use at least one of them. And it's a lot easier if you have only x2 people below, 1 manning the lever and 1 running interferance with a high AC while the other 2 can heal from above and take out the mephits so they don't get in the way. You can find some messages about the forge telling you about superheating the golem, so I got this down pretty easy on my 1st try
Can only use it so many time though I think.. I got like 3 items and then I couldn't use it anymore. I think it's cuz I pressed the button which lifted the platform and then used mage hand to bring it back down.. after that the forge stopped working for me
