What about elderly people? Disabled people? If he marketed his target audience better this could’ve been a decent product

This actually isn’t a terrible product, personally i hate having to stand on one leg just to clean the bottom of my foot.
Also washing your feet is dangerous, shower floors are slippery, especially once you introduce soap. They ripped him for no real reason
yeah it really bothered me that they were like 'hahahha dangerouss??? what could POSsIBLY be dangerous about standing on one leg, in a shower, with a slippery soapy floor, while performing a task.' Not that I would ever want it to happen or anything--but imagine one of them went home later and the next time they showered they slipped washing their feet.
They ripped him because he deserved to be ripped. They most often invest in the entrepreneur and not the product.

25 y/o, perfectly fit, and I would totally buy this. Plus, I tend to be in a rush in the morning. I could wash my feet and shampoo my hair at the same time if I had this. Definitely worth £22, whatever that is in freedom bucks.

@@chreezy24 It's almost like if you're pitching something on Dragon's den it has to be a mass market product and not a niche product. They only invest in businesses with large margins. He also has no protection on his product, meaning if it does well, a larger company ca just copy the idea with very little cost because the product has no barrier of entry.

Nah dude this is such a good idea. As a 21 year old able bodied person, even I struggle to balance when washing my feet! This would be even better for older people and disabled people!

Lmao me too, I’m currently healing from a serious knee injury and for months couldn’t balance or stand on one leg, and even before that I didn’t enjoy having to balance on one leg to wash my feet. I’d buy it simply because it makes life easier.

There's a lot of disabled people that this would appeal to and people that power lift... After leg day, reaching down past your kneecaps is a struggle... Simply being able to stand, have balance and wipe your feet to clean them makes life easier.
But it is easy to copy.
It's far to expensive as well,it can be copied and sold for a quarter of the price, also it may sell some but it's not scalable to the size the dragons want

I love watching these old Dragons Den shows because you see so many of them have missed amazing opportunities.
they also seem a lot more mean spirited and sometimes just nasty bullies compared to the newer shows.
I don’t think there’s enough of an appreciation of the opportunity cost of investing in startups. The kind of return required to compensate for the highly elevated systematic and unsystematic risks associated with a small business is immense. Unless there isn’t a clear path to high returns there isn’t much reason for them to invest even if there is an otherwise decent business being offered.
There’s definitely a market for this. Not everyone can balance enough to wash their feet correctly and effectively
I can see it massaging your feet. He mentioned washing and exfoliating. Even with an exfoliator scrub, I don't see those nubs doing either, and they certainly wont get to the top of the foot. Add in the price of the product and I don't see it working.

These actually sell REALLY WELL. I'm not sure if he kept up his business, if others copied or whether these have existed before (which I'm guessing probably did) but there is loads online and they are very popular. The Dragons can be so ignorant sometimes and fail to recognize an obviously good product.
Yeah Duncan immediately assumed it had to be a problem solver instead of approaching it from a preference standpoint. It’s not necessary, but people usually buy things they want more than need.
Even worse when you consider disabled people and elder people
It may be easy for Peter to reach down to the bottom of his feet, being young and fit, but for the elderly and infirm, it is quite difficult.

Good idea, even for people who can wash their feet independently
1) good for old, disabled, overweight, injured, tired, just not good balance
2) exfoliating
3) easier and convenient extra scrubbing even for people who don't have an issue
4) like a foot massage
5) non slip
He should've mentioned it's a product that can help the overweight and disabled.
So they can fall over in the shower, good one. Whereas they make showers with a seat on the side for disabled people plus they have shower seats that are movable if you dont have a fit for purpose shower.
My parents have a shower mat like this and it's great. He didn't explain it properly. Using it is like brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth every day is not a substitute for a dentist clean.
Also, it's near impossible to slip in the shower using this mat.

Not the worst product that's been on here, but big yikes on 20 pounds for a rubber mat. Could buy a 2 pound plain rubber door mat and do the same haha
You should check out Irish Dragons Den... one of the top ideas was a $6 plastic bag that you store your wet paintbrush in so it doesn't dry over a few hours...

If this dude had just come in from the start, saying “It’s not meant to solve any problems as far as exfoliating your feet goes, it’s just a way to make the task easier, a little more fun, and you get a good foot massage while you’re at it”, and didn’t try the whole “That looks dangerous to me - you standing there like that” route, the at might have honestly piqued their interest, and had them taking it a BIT more seriously in the long run.
Not every invention has to “solve a problem”. Many inventions exist for the sole purpose of making an already simple and mundane task a little more fun, so that you end up doing it more and thinking about it more often when showering.
But unfortunately with this invention, Peter was right, it just didn’t look like it would do what it was being sold as being able to do.
If he made some parts a little harder and spikier, he’d have had a winner.
But as they also said, I’m sure that someone has seen this and probably already come out with a product 100x better than this.
But it is dangerous when you're standing in the bath, which a billionaire never would be.
When I think about the number of times I've fallen in the shower trying to wash my feet. This is actually very smart, especially for the elderly, those with disabilities, and just a person who doesn't want to slip.
The biggest take-away I got from this is the fact that people apparently actually physically wash their feet.

The dragons sometimes forget that not everyone has the same experience in business as they do and they can be quite cutting at times. I know it’s business but hey, sometimes it’s peoples hopes and dreams they are quashing.

I've worked at pharmacies for the past decade. All do sell footcare products, which are uncompetitively priced (as there's only 2-3 main brands).
It's deffos a good product and serves a very useful function for the elderly, unfit, disable, ill, etc; or even the fit and healthy, as it's safer than balancing on one foot in the shower.
... A little overpriced for a silicone mat, it already exists, and poor business model/ value are the only criticisms.

His market is disabled, women, and recovering people from surgeries or back pain, etc. but, the pitch was all over the place so that was his demise.

These products exist. They've existed for a long time. I remember when I was 8 I went to my friends house and they had a mat pretty much exactly like this in their shower. A mat that's comfortable to stand on and helped with cleaning. It's not a silly idea, despite how much the dragons made fun of it. They make fun of a lot of good ideas that sell well. Also, Duncan has always been way to arrogant. Im amazingly happy he left.

I still to this day after seeing this video months ago now think about how good this product actually is, I’m overweight which makes it difficult anyway but I’ve also a very small bath/shower so reaching down there would be difficult for anyone. I think this is a really good product.
I'm glad Deborah supported the idea and like it unlike the rest of the dragons.
In all fairness, they laughed at him but I do agree. I feel that the Dragons didn't understand the product because they likely have huge walk in showers that are big enough for at least 2 people. Most people occupy showers that are only wide enough to turn around it, and not bend down comfortably.
The price of the mat is a joke though! I'd pay £10 at that very very most, but then I'd expect to be paying more than £2 for a quality scrub.

I've just came across this, I'm not old not overweight, but I work hard, 12 hour shifts, I love a shower after work, I would love one of these.
A few months ago, I slipped in the shower whilst trying to scrub my foot standing. I hit my head against the shower door and I have only just woke up from a coma about a week ago. If only I had this life saving shower mat 👣

They’re the worst sometimes…I’m only 5’4” and I love products like that. After washing my waist length hair and exfoliating/washing my body, shaving, etc..the last thing I want to do is bend over to scrub my feet. This was ahead of its time.

He's absolutely right it's dangerous for the elderly or overweight to stand on one foot in the shower. My father slipped and smashed the back of his head in the shower faucet. Nearly blacked out, blood everywhere, had to go to the ER and get stitched up. I'm pretty sure he's not the only person above 70 to have that accident.
I do feel bad sometimes for these guys, like they spent years and thousands of pounds developing a product and the a Scotsman asks you if it's an April fools joke
What a pitch-stuttering non-stop, no stock, a couple of companies ordering negligible amounts & he wants to blow 130 odd grand of other peoples money & if it goes tits up that is their tough luck.
If he had went on the show months later with some actual sales and a more assured, focused pitch he could have gotten an investment. But that’s a lot of “ifs”

i used to have really bad balance at one point, and mix that with slippery soap, i always used to stumble in the shower. this is actually a good product, he just didn’t pitch it well or for the right market.

It's very shortsighted of the Dragons to assume that everyone can reach their feet. There are a lot of health conditions, in addition to age and disability, that make it impossible for a person to reach their feet.
My nan used to have one of these atleast 15 years ago and I can tell you from using it myself that it's just awkward and uncomfortable to stand on, however I do agree that it is much safer than standing on one leg and perfect for the disabled
This is better than the guy who tried to sell the flashing lights for traffic signals, the guy who made a cucumber cap and even the guys who made that navigation compass for bicycle
He actually had a good product. Shower floors especially after soap are extremely slippery and it's risky business even trying to start balancing on one foot.

I’m surprised the dragons didn’t grill him on not seeming to have done market research.
There is a version of this advertised on Facebook which looks like a foot fitting upside down long bristled hand scrubber that has sucker pads to stick down in the shower bath/tray and run your feet on top. It is way more simpler and smaller. It is less than the size of a flip flop and easier to maintain.
It’s not a bad product. It’s kind of like a home pedicure kit. Can be marketed as a DIY foot spa.
Would totally buy one for sure , reflexology is the bomb.
I feel like the dragons are go too far with talking crap then they can't take it back so they proceed to shred the product when it's not actually a bad product but it would affect there ego.

The amount of people who said this is a good idea is mind-blowing.
I am 77 years old and cannot clean my feet because of an accident that affected my back. There are many, many possible customers who would benefit from this as due to physical problems or age cannot clean their extremities and the feet are an important area of the body,the reason for global foot reflexology clinics..I think the Dragons blinkered.Many simple products they refused to take seriously went on to be very successful.

I think this guy should have emphasised the benefits of reflexology - the soothing aching feet, boosting blood circulation, improving sleep etc.
Similar massage shower mats are pretty popular now and I’d definitely like to get one. He went on about feet cleaning, exfoliating too much and the product’s true value got a bit lost.
There’s a product similar to this in the western world, but it has bristles instead I believe it’s called easy feet. This type of product would do good on a show similar to qvc.

Interms of grip to prevent danger most showers have built in raise parts and you can get grip shower mats. Not to mention the fact I don't think many people fall in the shower, older people would have grip mats
