This song always makes me so sad. 😢😢 Freddie last vocals. And the last verse he sang, I long for peace before I die. To know that’s the last verse he ever recorded just hits hard. And that Brian had to finish the song because he was to sick that he never made it back to the studio. It makes me cry every time I hear it.
@@bluebell3720 that video was in May 1991, Mother Love was his last recording around early november before Freddie left Montreux for good... and Freddie could only sing a few lines at each time helped with shots of vodka....
Considering how frail Freddie was at the time of recording this take, the sound he makes is borderline miraculous. And I can never hear this without my eyes welling up. Every damn time.
This song makes me very emotional and that last verse chills me as it is Brian May the guitarist who had to complete the final vocals as Freddie was too sick to return to finish the track. The very last moment where you hear the music speed out is all of their songs being played backwards in time to the baby crying. Very very emotive. These final vocals were laid down in May of 1991 and the same time period when Queen recorded their final video for These are the days of our lives.
GUYS.... THANK YOU, so much for reacting to this!!! This is one of my favorite songs, it's so beautiful and REAL. I know a lot of folks "don't like" it because it's so SAD - and it IS - but I just find it so meaningful... Freddie sang with his ENTIRE SOUL until the very last minute... and then the fact that Brian went back (seven years later, I think) to finish it for us, is such a testament to their friendship.
It's the improvised callout to the crowd that later came to define almost every legendary Queen concert. What started as an improvised interaction with the crowd at a Queen concert in Montreal during 1978, "Ay-Oh!" became a hallmark of their most momentous performances. Who can forget their 20-minute set at Live Aid in 1985, when Freddie Mercury had the entire 80,000 strong crowd inside Wembley Stadium within the palm of his hand? Roger on Freddie: "For 20-odd years, I had the best seat in the house, watching the best front man in the world."
The fact he sings 'I long for peace before I die' and he knew he was about to die, and did pass away just a few months later, is so impactful. The whole atmosphere of this song is spine-tingling. Rest in peace to Freddie.
There is so much to that song that is so meaningful. First, Freddie was very sick when they were recording it. He said he would be back in the morning to finish the vocals. That was the last time he was in the studio as he soon passed. The final verse of Mother Love was Brian May (as Freddie never made it back to finish). Then the all the music samples you hear was every Queen song, a small sample, played very fast. Then the "Think I'm Goin Back" verse is the first verse ever recorded/released by Freddie as Larry Lereux, followed by a baby crying to represent the birth of Freddie. It is a very emotional Queen song once you know the history of it.
Freddie was too exhausted to continue and said “I’ll finish it the next time I come to the studio” - and never came back. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he died in Nov 1991 without finishing the song. When going through the vocals tracks recorded during these final sad months to assemble the posthumous Queen album Made In Heaven a couple of years later, Brian recorded the final verse. The switch to Brian singing the last part shatters my heart every time, *knowing* that Freddie was gone - he gave everything he had until he simply couldn’t do it any more. What a beautiful, brave Legend he was ! Freddie Mercury 1946- 1991… and to ♾ infinity
BTW Guys, That verrrrry LAST line at the end: "I think I'm going back....." etc, was Freddie singing: "GOIN' BACK" under the name LARRY LUREX, c. 1973-74 (I'm not sure of the year) It's a REALLY LOVELY song!! (And it's another example of how Fred could make his voice sound COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.)
Considering how sick he was, could barely stand (most of his foot had gone), often losing his sight, a skeleton but his soul, will power and voice were still strong.
You might be thinking about their performance at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid where Freddie goes off on what can only be described as a prolonged scat and has the audience so much in the palm of his hand that they are doing everything he does (or at least trying because nobody can truly mimic Freddie)
Mother Love from the album Made In Heaven, released in 1995 after Freddie’s death in 1991, written by Freddie and Brian May, Freddie recorded 2 out of 3 verses before becoming to sick to continue to record, so Brian May recorded the final verse himself later,Freddie’s vocals are impressive considering he was at deaths door while recording the first to verses , Freddie is surely missed, great reaction thanks for
That was Freddy's last song. He was tired and was supposed to finish later. When you hear Brian after the guitar solo Freddy had already died and Brian finished the song he wrote for Freddy because Freddy wanted to record the songs as long as he can. He did not want to focus on that he dies . So everyone wrote for him songs.
Queen at Live Aid .. everyone remembers them ... but it was ...Status Quo ... that opened the day and they nailed it ... see how the crowd Luv them ... Status Quo - Don’t Waste My Time (Live Aid 1985) ... Play it loud ! ... it won't waste your time ... Ha Ha
This was his last recorded song before he died. Infact, he didn't finish. Brian sang last verse. I believe the the song was about Freddy longing for comfort from his suffering...to be safe and loved. And, acceptance of his fate. Hauntingly beautiful. The end was every Queen recording, bits, run through high speed. I would have loved to see them live too. Although, I did see Brian open for guns n roses in 93. 🙂
This was Freddie's very last song but he was not able to complete it so Brian finishes the final verse. Brian would not let anyone else touch this song after Freddie's death because he said he knew exactly what Freddie wanted. When the others felt strong enough to do so, they went back into the studio and finished this song for Freddie. This is such a beautiful song and I can so understand how if you knew you were close to the end of your life, coming to the grave understanding that you had it all wrong, all along. It was never about all the things you thought you wanted or needed, it was all about feeling the pure and unconditional love that you would have felt as a child from your mother. Love always was the only true answer and yet we searched for it in all the wrong ways. This song tosses me back and forth between goosebumps and tears. Thank you for your reaction
“Mother Love” was the final song co-written by Freddie and Brian, and was also Freddie’s last-ever vocal performance. Freddie’s vocals for "Mother Love" were recorded between 13-16 May 1991. On his website, Brian discussed the writing process he and Freddie had (writing both separately and together and being conscious of the nature of the song and the lyrics). Upon reaching the final verse, Freddie told Brian that he had to go and “have a rest”, but that he would return later and finish it. After that, Freddie never made it back to the studio, and thus Brian sang the last verse of the track. Freddie passed away on November 24, 1991.
What a Singer Freddie was. Mother Love from the album Made in Heaven, released in 1995 after Freddie Mercury's death in 1991. It was written by Mercury and Brian May. Mercury recorded two out of three verses before becoming too sickly to continue recording, so May recorded the final verse himself later. First Class Reactions.

Queen's last recording with Freddie. Brian May had to sing the last verse, Freddie didn't make it to sing the last verse. Freddie's voice still powerful right to the last second of his life. Sad 😢. If you want to get a real taste of Queen I think you need to listen to their first two albums especially. The studio clips in the final bit are One Vision and the opening guitar from 1974 track Tie Your Mother Down. The call and response Freddie did around the world.
Freddie couldn't finish this song, he got too tired and went home. Unfortunately that was the last time he was in the studio. Brian had to finish the vocal.
It's about going back to the womb to feel safe
The last song freeddie lives
Dying and still fantastic
💚
Freddie was so sick he couldn't finish the vocal this was the end
Y’all need to go back to TOOL!!! Been wayyyy too long and y’all have so much more to discover from them.
Y’all sleeping on Brodnax… he’s on fire.. must see…😳💥
I can't imagine how Brain must have felt when he sang the last part of the song, instead of Freddie 😢
Ill waiting for David Phelps- I Havè Nothing .Lol
"I want to break free" is another must! Great reaction as always :)
Remember: it's a dying man singing this. Gutwrenching.
