      Korea and Koreans are awesome. Koreans are crazy smart! The two countries that have the major electronic contraptions we use every day come from the Americans and Koreans, but Koreans beat all the electronic companies in the world. I'm white and I will tell you that K pop is extremely popular in America, Canada, and Latin America. My co-worker who is form El Salvador knows of Korean dramas and K pop. She's not the only one. Korean dramas and K pop are popular in Mexico. It's all around the world. You hate Koreans and Korea. Move to another country. All races of jerks go online to discredit everyone. You're not the first. Whites do it to minorities and minorities do it to us. If you don't like Koreans, why do you go on TH-cam to watch anything Korean? You say that your English is of high standard and your parents speak it very well. Well, thanks for sharing that! So do mine! Ha, Ha! LOL!

      Talking down on races does not make anyone superior. There are beauties all over the world without plastic surgery.

    • @Msbeeboper
      @Msbeeboper 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes but she also pointed out very important things like how it can be much healthier for your mental state not to seek perfection but to accept your "strange" features that make you different. That and she pointed out the flaw in the korean beauty system where people mindlessly choose a product just because celebrities like it. I admit that she didn't realise how much k-beauty had spread (Im western and I use half korean products, half western) It was a very lively talk.

    • @alizlovescherry
      @alizlovescherry 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +M.Y.O. H agree. She's being hypercritical of celebrity branding. It's the thing with branding! It's the way pf advertise products. I don't get why she's questioning this matter.

    1st time I don't skip the last segment, that debate was good
    Sara has points which where incomplete, not just in Korea but in most countries makeup marketing is about an aspirational look that's why they use idols and in other places celebrities, she also mentioned only high-end brands which isn't fair to compare them to road shops even so I found skin care lines better than those expensive french brands.
    Well, korean cosmetics are being sold all over the globe and mostly purchased by k-pop and k-drama fans, is rare to other people get notice about k-beauty. Maybe Korea is ahead but what they are pursuing and the rest of the world is different.

  • @orenji196
    @orenji196 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That conversation they had at the end was so important. I'm Korean but I agree whole heartedly with Sara but I could also understand the Asian perspectives. It seemed like the Asian woman was sadly influenced by the pressures of Asian culture that Asian women aren't naturally beautiful or that our natural Asian features aren't good enough. Sara was trying to tell her there's nothing wrong with natural Asian eyes and skin tone and that it's beautiful because it's different. I wish more Koreans saw it that way also. I'm happy this Korean program let Sara give her perspective on the subject!

    • @yelenaandreyevna7429
      @yelenaandreyevna7429 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that popular culture in Korea should start promoting more natural and traditional Asian look. Not just because Western people like it, because when i compare some k-pop stars and ordinary Korean people, I see how things we see on television actually aren't in real life.
      Also, I think that asian more go for doll-like face :)

    To be honest, I see the Korean skin care in Sephora, but I don't buy it and I am no longer sure where they are in the isle because sephora had the huge banner that is now no longer there. I think one reason it's not hot is because we honestly don't know what half that stuff is and it's a bother. I do agree on the marketing point, western skincare and makeup isn't necessarily flooded with celebrities. You have celebrities definitely who endorse products like Lupita Nyong'o and Lancome or Kendall Jenner with Estee Lauder but that doesn't mean the product is being bought because of the celebrity. The biggest brands right now like Urban Decay, Makeup Forever, becca, Mac, some luxury brands don't use celebs. They have something even better which is beauty vloggers and social media. A lot of western beauty vloggers have that one video about k-beauty but then that's it, I don't see them incorporate or use that stuff.

    • @LM-61513
      @LM-61513 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. We have become so accustomed to depending on the quality of a product based on the celebrity that endorses it. I've recently gone more into ingredients within skincare and how each and everyone of them could potentially harm me/ the benefits and role they play within the product and if it's worth it. Most mainstream products I've used have a crazy amount of ingredients which is doing more harm than good. I personally have asian skin, and wondered why my pores or skin wasn't looking as nice as these other asian stars 'say they would'. After looking at ingredients and picked what suited me, my skin is better than ever thankfully and I've stopped buying products simply because a celebrity uses it.

    • @rimun5235
      @rimun5235 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diana Chen As I said, Social media. Kylie has a huge following on social media, but no one buys her lip kits thinking they can be like her (She's gotten a lot of hate for her lip kits). After all, one thing about the west is we have a multitude of races, ethnicities, etc. There's no way, a pink lipstick Kylie wears is going to look good on me... There are definitely looks that are influenced by celebrities. Contouring has always existed, but safe to say Kim Kardashian really fueled this trend. However, the biggest brands here are makeup forever, Urban Decay, Mac, L'oreal, Revlon, maybelline. Some of them have celebrities but I can't even begin to name them. It's the same with skin care, I have absolutely no idea which celebrities model for the skin care I buy.

    • @rimun5235
      @rimun5235 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Diana Chen Thing is, full lips have been a thing since even before Kylie was born. People buy her lip kits because of social media hype. There are definitely people who follow celebrity trends and want to look like celebrities but in terms of buying makeup to look like someone, they are in the minority. As There are asians, african americans buying her lip kits too, is it because they want to look like her? If anything, Angelina Jolie probably fueled this full lips trend. Kylie herself had her lips done. Those aren't her natural lips and many people know this. Heck, the whole world knows she's had plastic surgery. Kylie doesn't even want to look like herself!

    • @rimun5235
      @rimun5235 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the problem is specific to one culture, but I think there's far more pressure to look a certain way in Asia than there is in America, I also think the U.S has a slightly different problem. You'll find a more diverse look when there's different cultures. The cultural icons for black people isn't Kylie Jenner. I don't know any black person who thought they would look like Kylie from buying her lip kits. If anything, she's been slammed for appropriating black culture. I do think there's a huge problem though with what the media pushes as beautiful as it often alienates a certain group. However, I grew up in a different country and immigrated to the U.S and I'm glad for that because growing up, I was never pressured to look a certain way. I remember hearing about Anorexia and being shocked. That is unheard of in my culture, doesn't even exist. Different cultures have different standards of beauty but some are more detrimental than others. Starving yourself to look slim for instance is not a universal thing. Shaving your jaw is something I don't even think 80% of the world knows as feasible.
      On a positive and silly note, I do hope Korean cushion foundations become more popular. I think Korea is actually pretty innovative and this is one of those trends I hope can come through. Hopefully with more shades.

    I don't agree with Sara, some french people know korean cosmetics, moreover the trend of natural beauty isn't really the biggest trend in France, ( in Paris for example with the tumblr girls and insta girls) ... that is true that the majority use more make up than skincare but things are changing ... I'm french ^^

    On the last segment I noticed some things I didn't agree with maybe someone can talk to me over this?
    1. I think Korean make up right now is pretty unique. I don't know about the quality but even the way they apply make up is different. Sure there is a sense of wanting to look fairer and white (not that they would admit that) but Korean make up feels very bare and light and youthful, not like they said it was. Sure skin care is something of a militarian task, what with all masks and lotions and moisturisers, but applying the make up itself and the end result is nothing like western/american ideals. I mean firstly Koreans do not contour their whole faces, that's like the biggest example. They don't put on bronzer and too much blush.
    2. They don't want to be fairer because they want to avoid looking yellow they just don't like tans. They don't like tan skin, it's only now changing and the only way for an artists with tan skin to be considered good is if they are sexy. Lee Hyorin, Hyorin, Yuri, Kai, Seolhyun are all the respective sexy stars. And they still get shit for being tanned. Shoot me if you haven't heard tanned stars would look better if they had lighter skin. Korea has a big problem of colorism so it's awful that the asian make up artists were trying to hide that. Sara was super classy to try and tackle that in a subtle manner.

      ***** A lot of people appreciate the subtler deeper social connotations of make up. It can be linked to racial and gender elements so of course.

      +iRockYouRock67 for what I saw this far since I was a kpopper for almost 8 years, even before I wore my makeup or even before K-Beauty was trending... Honestly K-wave is the one who introduce K-Beauty. I still remember when K-beauty was introduced into international society and most people buy that because they are kpopper. Non kpopper would choose western brands because it's more approachable. I dont know about other country, but at here it's kind of hard to buy K-brands. We need to order it online or go to korea directly to have them. Although nowadays K-brands already penetrating the real market, but it still sell kpop idols as their main focus attraction. But non kpopper at here would prefer western brand because they sold it everywhere. You can find Maybelline or L'oreal literally everywhere. and my mother even know Revlon since she was young. K-beauty is still new in this industry, and it's growing with K-wave too. Kpopper bought it, and thought it was good then they spread the words by beauty blog or beauty channel, spreading the trends everywhere. and from there, non kpopper would take interest and probably try it. The good thing from K-brands is that they have big selection of brands from low-end to high-end brands. That's really good since their low-end products's quality is good and the packaging's cute. People can try from cheap products and eventually try the others too :D

    idk how Sara managed to be so good in korean but somehow her fluency made her points more convincing though she's a westerner. But I still like korean make up like it looks natural and not too heavy but enhances beauty.
    btw jaekyung looks so nice in person. she interacts with the beauty crew like they're all friends. i like her attitude

    hmmm, the dude in the flashy suit must never been to India. whitening is big business over there. ever heard of Fair & Lovely? of course no, it's for the plebs but yeah, in Asia, whitening is a big business, not only in East Asia. try walk into beauty stores across SEA, tons of whitening, brightening, lightening or w/e they call it are sold literally everywhere from low ends to high ends, local to imported products. i've nvr been to Central Asia yet, so i cant say anything abt their beauty standard & culture
    and not all Asians have slanted eyes, so does every westerner; not everyone has big eyes and tall perfect nose either. just like not all SKs look like their idols and actors. beautiful and average looking ppl are everywhere.

    I feel like whenever someone Asian that is obsessed with having whiter skin tries to explain that they look sick with darker skin it is just an excuse. the need to have white skin in a group of people where that isnt the norm is just unnatural to me. some Asian women do have fair skin but not to the extremes I see them try to obtain, even to the point of wearing mismatched foundation to appear whiter. that paired along with wanting features like high nose bridges or big eyes those aren't features unique or common to asians. those are all very white western features so when you aim for that its hard to believe that you aren't trying to become something you are not.

    I very much agree with the french/korean model also understand where others are ocming from. It is weird from outside perspective even here in USA when people buy prudcts just because some star used them and it looks good. Like the model was saying everyone has unique look its best to embrace that and use what looks good on you than trying to immulate someone else.. I use brightening cream even I dark skin because it odes make my complexion even but never lighten my face ever.

    • @HappilyPeculiar7
      @HappilyPeculiar7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** her opinion is not irrelevant as they were discussing the international popularity of korean makeup products particularly in Europe and USA. It said in her bio she was from France. You cant just judge what person ethnicity by face unless you are an observant person. Again her opinion is spot on. I know many who buy Korean products without knowing about Korea or that it is in fact from korea. They just heard such and such product works well for this or liked the color on them. The french model right its a bit presumptuous of other women to think products are so popular simply because they are form Korea or some Korean star used them.
