Not only that, scoring the interview with 4 band members. BCNR like to do interviews in pairs (Tyler and Lewis), so seeing FOUR members plus the producer?? That's a huge flex ngl.
i mean fantano already interviewed two members of bcnr when ftft came out last year. i’ll admit tho, the fact that he managed to get four members in an interview ALONG with the producer of the album is definitely a flex
🐜🐜🐜This is already THE definitive BC,NR interview🐜🐜🐜 You have just leveled up in the world again, Prof. Well done! Humans being human.... the best sort of conversation.
The cover art on this album really brought me back to a specific time with those plastic bags. I think my library used them for either books or video games. And I specifically remember opening those bags when I was younger, they have to small little clips on the top. And they also had a crazy super strong plastic smell. Something I completely forgot about!
The cover art reminds me of how the local goodwill shops bundle up small toys into batches and sell them in plastic bags. I see them hanging from hooks on a pegboard wall whenever I go goodwill hunting.
1:04:28 is EASILY the coolest demo, the stark contrast between the angry, rough and blaring instrumental paired with Isaac’s vocals that seem uninterested, quiet and even ironic like skye says. SO cool to hear. Personally I’ve never heard anything like it
22:40 when this happened, I was like "wow Skye really knows what he's doing here with how to facilitate a discussion," but then I realized, of course he knows what he's doing, he's a college professor lmao
This is a tremendous document, one that I am confident will be referred back to in 25 years for the most honest answers to listeners questions - spontaneous and without years of rumination to colour the memory. I'm pausing to write this at 1:13:08 because the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up and it's just an extraordinary moment of revelation/synergy/coincidence (no, there are no coincidences!) I wish I could carefully fold this interview up and keep it safe inside my deluxe copy of 'Ants From Up There.'
No but for real when I had to dig in the back of my mind to remember what Jordan 11s were also called and came to the realization my brain almost broke
Is this the first time skye has edited his video? what a milestone for the channel edit: during the premier skye actually said he’s done it before, but this video is the most he’s edited before by far.

When I first heard the album version of Snow Globes I was on a busy metro platform in Barcelona and I just burst into uncontrollable tears (when the radical drums kicked in). I'm not going to ever forget that. The only thing that I can compare it to is hearing Spirit of Eden for the first time on an Andalucian road trip in 1993/4. The review and this video confirm that I'm not an outlier in having such a visceral reaction to this absolutely monstrous piece of work. Thanks for shining a light on the process, Prof and bcnr. THE SOUND OF THE ROOM IS EVERYTHING HERE.
“But for less than a moment, they’d share the same Skye” Thank you for your obsession with this masterpiece, which is all I’ve listened to for the past two weeks. Really looking forward to part 2. And thanks to this video I now realise that Sergio live sound engineered the work band we put together for a private event at the Lexington in 2019 - which is surely as close to touching greatness as I’ll ever come! “But for less than a moment…”
ants from up there is my album of the decade and i'm blown away that we now have the privilege to exactly follow how this masterpiece came to existence. i love how open the band was about the process and that we have the opportunity to listen to demo tracks. thank you professor skye for not only interviewing my favourite band and make this look behind the scenes possible, but also for the lengthy interpretations of the tracks on ants from up there. through your videos on bc,nr, this became one of my favourite channels on youtube period ✈
Seeing their thought process before, during, and after the recording of this album, I have no doubt that they will figure out how to be a band with their new lineup. They clearly were very intentional with almost every aspect of recording, and this wasn’t a happy accident or anything like that. I’m sure they will be able to do something very interesting going forward. Thanks so much for this fantastic interview.
Gyöngyhajú lány, a reference on New Slaves [mentioned in the context of Chaos Space Marine alt take drum solo] was actually a pretty big thing and a radio hit in the eastern bloc back in the days... (Hungary, Poland, Czechia, also plenty of covers were made since the original release)... it's such a funny reference! Btw - an awesome interview of course! Always great to listen to these guys, thanks for that opportunity;)
This is a real win for all of us that have been following the professor for years and have developed a love for this band with him. It's an exciting event for all of us.
I've always respected your opinion and for a minute I thought I was going "bonkers" over how great this album is. Good to see someone else that knows how incredible this work is. A Heironymous bosch level piece of music.
Sad that Isaac isn't there but again this is just a very wonderful chat with the band on this phenomenal album, they're all sweet to talk to and it blows my mind because of that.
Professor skye, this is such a cool insight and behind the scenes info from someone that I think really is as passionate on the subject as i feel. As an artist, even though I draw and paint instead of making music, it’s so inspiring to be able to see the process of artists that i really look up to in my own age group. The creative process is a universal language, no matter the time period or the medium, so thank you for the look into the process, even it was mostly a happy accident. Prof skye doing gods work
LOVE White Ferrari and love that aspect of the track that Dr Evans was speaking of. Interesting to know it influenced the arrangement of Snow Globes. Makes me like it more now
I could listen to you explain your feelings on this record honestly for hours, I wouldn’t mind retrospectives too over the course of whatever time frame. Even after a little over a month this is still one of the best albums I’ve ever heard, after all the hype has died I do feel like this album is a modern masterpiece. I hope the band and this album gains the attention is so honestly deserves.
Wow professor this is seriously amazing, congratulations. I really can’t think of anyone else who deserves this more than you. I have a feeling your channel is going to blow up soon and you’ll be getting many more opportunities like this one. Great video!!!

Thank you for making this document! This album and document feel so special and taking a deeper look just makes me listen again and again and love it deeper. This band is massively excellent! Thank you for peeling back these layers for us!
I wish you asked about the album cover and name tbh. i find both fascinating and wanted to know more about it and the meaning. Either way great video as well as your other BCNR vids on your channel!
concorde is the name of the type of jet in the cover and the reason the album is named like that is because humans look like ants from up there (up there being the jet in the sky). there are better explanations on the band’s subreddit
Restraint to add some space and remove the clutter of too many instruments is a skill Radiohead had to figure out. I know they tried to figure that out around the OK Computer or Kid A era. Ed O’Brien said it was a difficult thing to get used to because certain members wouldn’t play some songs at all, but it added a necessary dynamic to the music, so I think it’s not a bad idea for BC,NR to implement that idea in their music. It could add to the next step in the evolution of their sound.
I think the lack of restraint is what made this record feel so amazing. While I agree that having that restraint can be important on more personal songs (especially like Marks Theme on this record), I do however believe that this album was improved via its grandiosity, and honestly I think the cluster works extraordinarily well. Obviously personal preference but yeah I do think it'd definitely lead them in an interesting and new direction (whether it be good or bad is something we can [hopefully] look forward to).
