Get the roof sheathing covered with a weather wrap so if rain you have no water down below. The osb offers no water protection and will absorb water and start to swell

My son mowed the lawn today. I just had a fresh shower and a white tshirt on. I was moving the lawnmower so he could wash under it. He turned the hose towards the grass with a pinpoint stream which dug into the dirt and grass and completely covered me with dirt, grass everything! So I understand the sawdust all over you.

Use distilled vinegar and peroxide. Then rinse only 2 or 3 times and the smell will be gone. People forget to clean their washing machines and dishwashers. I use distilled vinegar in my dishwasher every load at the very beginning and it never smells when all the cycles are complete

Good Sunday morning. Its 5:30. I'm holding my coffee ☕ and holding my breath as you traverse the lift!
That said , I wish we and our rural woods neighbors had one of these contraptions in the 70s. Everyone was building and roofing and falling off the roofs on a regular basis :-O. Mostly soft landings. They positioned piles of hay and what not.
There were marvelous house raisings, with lots of BBQ food and cold beer, AFTER the roof was done '-) ...
Now we have contractors and carpenters. We continue to work the farm in our 70s. ( 3,000 bales of hay so far) , but will leave the construction work and barn painting/roofing, to the professionals.
Your adventure is so familiar to me. Something I undertook in my 20s/30s. Never forgot the blood/sweat/tears involved and the immense satisfaction of accomplishing major land clearing and builds by our own hand. Faith, Love and Attitude will take you far. We also said, " Just DO IT !! "
Thanks for sharing your journey and your family. Melissa, I had horses and ponies. You and the kids will enjoy them. Jeremy, you could always get a draft or like me, I bought a half draft. They can be mixed with Morgan, etc. and can be worked and pull a hay wagon. A nice size for someone 6'3". I rode mine. He was a blast!
Enjoy your summer. Your acreage is a beautiful piece of land. I want to say it looks like you're " Half way there!"
    All the best ~ Diane

Timber frame building is a really fast way to build a house, it took me 2 years to build my house single handed with concrete block walls and I had no roof trusses either so had to cut my own roof. Well worth all the long days and hard work though. to be debt free with no mortgage in 2008 when everyone else was in a panic. Hard work pays.

    • @JamesCouch777
      @JamesCouch777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

That's about the same length of time as it took Heath from Red Poppy Ranch to build his frame house by himself. It's just that two people working together can get probably five times more work done than one person by themselves.

I know this is an older video, but we really enjoy you two, seeing your progress, but most of all is seeing your smiles, your energy, wonderful marriage and 'can do' spirit. BUT, what is most memorable, as is often the case, is Melissa's final commentary at the end. I just love the way her mind works.... a very smart cookie! My lord you two are just so magnetic, as is your FANTASTIC property - to die for! I told my wife if we ever won one of those stupidly huge $1 billion lotteries, I'd offer you $50 million for that place. She just glared at me as if it would be a sin to disturb any part of what you two ultimately created there, or to tempt you away from your dream....and I agree. All blessings and good things to you and your remarkable children.

I have so much respect for your family values and the leap of faith you're taking together. You're living the exact life I wanted for my growing family, way back then.
You're story, Jeremy being retired as a police officer, and you're skills with hands on building your dream home... that was my life growing up, with a police officer father, he retired younger, and then started building our dream cabin in the mountains, all out of the love of family.
Mellisa you're AMAZING TOO! Home schooling your children, your CHILDREN, Well how can they not be amazing as well coming from parents like yourselves.
My dream is to build IN Montara, hopefully soon, and have all my children, and their children live and work the land, and be a little community together all close by, close enough to ride our horses to one another's homes,.
    You are all SO INSPIRING!

We need to look at fear the same way we look to happiness. It's just an emotion. Embrace it and move forward. Never let fear put you in prison.

With the house being more closed in, do you have large boxed fans to use in order to deal with the heat?

Melissa you are so smart about being afraid. We have to keep thinking positive thoughts and moving forward. We live in hard times with our minds.

You are by far the cutest couple on TH-cam! It's fun watching you two interact and it makes the learning part very pleasurable. Your commercials are funny - I hope you get paid well for that effort.

Hey guys, I'm your next door neighbor in Montana.. I'm pretty close to you guys so I know how hot it is right now. I hope you're taking precautions this is the kind of weather that can kill you if you work that hard.. You're the hardest working couple I've ever seen. And Jeremy the best thing for the inside of a human is the outside of a horse🤣

Hard to find the right words folks, but you always seem to hit the nail on the head! Waiting every day to see if your ‘show’ comes up what you call work! Never seen such hard, creative and determined people that close every chapter with words of never ending wisdom!
“Then BE afraid! But do it anyway……!” Counts for all of us! Great travellers of the Life-path!

Better and better. I am surprised that you did not tape the siding as you went, since you have the man lift, Melissa could have probably fit her broom on it to sweep off the extra glitter.😊
