Where the advantage here with manual transmission is, is with power sliding. You rub off a lot of speed jamming on your brakes to initiate a drift compared to dropping it down a gear and then immediately upshifting back into top gear to do the same thing. When given the option, I never go manual gears in console racers if I don't have a wheel and shifter outside of here. But the glory with Outrun 2/C2C with a gamepad is that 99% of the time, you're just in top gear the entire time. You'll only have to actually shift when accelerating from the green flag at the start, recovering from a wreck, or when initiating a power slide. So it ends up just a more efficient way to kick the rear end of the car out for the tighter bends. One annoying thing though is your upshift and downshift buttons don't align here when moving between Outrun 2 proper and the unlockable 1986 arcade classic. One of the few missteps that Sumo Digital made here.
Aww man, this btings back memories! I remember I was about 3 or 4 when this came out and my dad and I would play this ALL the time! We still do. So nostalgic....
Aww man I have Outrun 2006 on the PS2, fantastic game. It for sure runs in 16:9 and 480. This just barely edges out Turbo Outrun on the Marty for me, they managed to really nail the nostalgic feeling while adding some new gimmicks. Great fun
Grandtheftauto1998 Yes, eventually. It'll be like this though where I just do the standard OutRun mode, I won't be messing with the mission/coast-2-coast mode.
Awesome video. I think I need to get this game now. I have always loved Outrun. Found a good Genesis copy over the summer for a good price. Now it looks like I need this. lol
Just picked it up for less than 8 bones complete. Its nice to pick up hidden gems all for less than 10 bucks,. Panzeer Orta was another I was expecting to be crazy...nope 10 bucks. I have the Outrun arcade in my basement :)
I've seen reviews of this game from classic game room and gamesack, and now here Austin is inputting his feedback on the game. So far, I've heard good things about the game, especially for those who love arcade games. I had hoped sega would have ported some of their games released from previous generations to the wii, just as what they did with house of the dead 2 & 3 to revitalize their games.
Austin Mackert I was so so SO disappointed that SEGA didn't put out a version of Outrun 2 on Wii, myself. That game plus motion steering? Urgh. Literally could have been the lowest effort port and I wouldn't have cared.
I never owned an Xbox to play this, but it looks great. Also if you ever get a chance, i'd love to see you play through the Saturn port of the original.
If I ever pick up the Saturn port (the Japanese one anyway; I used to have the US Sega Ages version but sold it) I'll try to do it. In the meantime, I may do the arcade version on the OutRun 2 XBOX disc.
Just like the arcade original, Outrun is locked 30 fps here, Yu Suzuki GameWorks on the Dreamcast, and both Shenmue games. It doesn't really work quite right on the Saturn anyways when the smooth mode is enabled. Somehow 60 fps hurts the sense of speed on the Saturn, unlike the same 60 fps setting on the 3D Classics conversion for the 3DS that is definitely superior.
OutRun 2 most definitely supports 16x9 wide screen. Nice video, I need to bring out an xbox as the compatibility on this one is pretty spotty with the x360.
implantgames What is the point of 16x9 if the resolution is low? According to the back of the box the game doesn't even support 480p, and that's still a 4X3 aspect ratio. No point in stretching it out for the video if the resolution is going to remain low like that. If the game does go to 16x9, it's letterboxed which isn't any more ideal.
Austin Mackert The game is anormorphic widescreen, not letterboxed widescreen. As far as the "point," it fills the screen. Sonic Colors is anamorphic widescreen (Wii obviously tops out at 480p as well) and I wouldn't want to play it in 4x3. See my video, looks great.
You might be confusing this with Outrun 2006. That's the expensive one. Regular OutRun 2 (which I was playing here) looks to still be around $30 for a complete copy online.

Ahh Outrun, brings back childhood arcade memories. Have to say I really dig your "let's plays" videos.
Thank you, sir!

Wow! Such an early age to experience such a great game.
Cool video as always! Cool game, too, from "back when SEGA *cough* was good *cough*". Outrun 2006 was also released on PC and PSP.
Indeed, it was. :)
Thanks for sharing Austin! I'll definitely have to pick up a copy of this as of late I've been spending more time with my original Xbox.
Definitely pick it up man! It's super cheap so it's a no brainer. :)

Turbo OutRun on the Marty, eh? I plan on LPing that sometime soon.
Are you gonna LP Outrun 2006, I have that game for the PS2.

Ok cool.

Yes, you will really dig this game. It's very easy to find and absurdly cheap considering how great the game is, so definitely pick up a copy soon.
Game works great with a steering wheel too :-) Might be my favorite racing game of all time. That and the original outrun game for the arcade.
Same here, this is my favorite racer next to the original OutRun.

Sega's got a few arcade ports to the Wii, but HotD aside, nothing of the same caliber as OutRun 2 unfortunately. :(

Are you playing this on original xbox? If so how did you record it???
***** It was played on an original XBOX and I recorded it with my USB capture card, an Elgato Game Capture HD.

Oh. I didn't realize the original is an unlockable on this one also.. cool. Do you know if it has the "smooth" mode 60fps like the Saturn?
I think it might be locked at 30fps, but then again it's been a long time since I played it. I'll find out soon though.

Japanese version is the best trust me it had the scud race tracks .
No wide screen? Needs more Gaiden.
OutRun 2 is 4X3, so no widescreen. Plenty of Gaiden to be had elsewhere on my channel. ;)

implantgames It only looks great in your video because you are using a ridiculously expensive upscaler..
Playing this game makes me feel like Sega was used to be good before they decided to milk the fuck out of sonic
This game is so expensive now, i cant even get it
