That hackle's Clamps sure do keep it steady! I have a hackle but it's kind of wobbly, i might need to modify it a bit. Yours is the first i have seen that is really solidly staying put. Thank you for making this video. Washing/prep videos are my favorite!
I just bought a cvm fleece at a fiber show and have not had a chance to wash it yet. I'm so excited now!!! Also, I get lingerie bags at the dollar store. It would keep three sides of you bag closed then you only have to roll and clip the open end.
This is so exciting to see, because I'm right in the middle of preparing and scouring a CVM fleece from the same farm, Greene County Wool! This farm is fairly local to me, so I was lucky enough to get to pick out a fleece in person, and like you, I am so impressed with the wonderful quality of fiber! I've noticed that this fiber is SO bouncy and squishy (even more than other finewools I've worked with) that it springs back into shape even when soaking wet after I've pulled it out of the rinse. I've been a little worried about the difficulty of combing such a springy fiber, but your demonstration gives me a lot of confidence that it will work out beautifully, especially if I go slowly and carefully. Thank you!

Aqui en España los pastores te dan sacos de lana porque les pagan muy poco .Tengo 3 sacos de lana pero es una odisea para limpiarla bien ,normalmente estan muy sucias y me esta costando. Tiene un olor muy fuerte y tengo toda la calle y los vecinos con un olor bastante malo. me gustaria si quieres mandarte un video que tiene sus años de como antes en los pueblos lavaban la lana .Bueno me alegro de haber encontrado este canal a ver si asi aprendo ingles tambien 😊
I've been washing a CVM fleece myself. It's hard to get all that grease out! I can take it from super greasy to mildly greasy consistently. I'll keep experimenting.
The key is water at 185 deg. Soak for 20-25 minutes. I use unicorn power scour, then rinse in same temp water another 20 minutes then spin dry. It may be that your water temp got too low and some of the lanolin you melted, resettled on the fleece.

I use my handcards to comb fiber -- I put the locks on one card, brush them through, then spin directly off the end of the card. Of course, this also leaves waste. I hate waste. It's occurred to me I might be able to felt something with some of my waste (I have big bags of it saved over the years) and wonder what you think of the idea. Or -- do you have any other ideas for what to do with it? paula
I use my comb waste, if it’s not too neppy, on my drum carder. I have not tried felting with it. If I used combed top and blend it on my hackle I will save and use all the waste on my drum carder, but if I am combing my processed wool/alpaca etc, often times that waste is short cuts, neps and broken tips. I think the only thing it would be good for is mulch in my garden(wool makes great mulch!). If I see anything I think I can use I save it for my carder. I would say try to felt with it, the only way to know is if you try and you won’t be loosing any good fiber!
I've been watching ur fleece d tour. This episode came up and it was very interesting. Do u use the pin hack to clean wool and the drum to mingle colors? Thanks for sharing.
The hackle is used for making worsted prep fiber. It does the same thing as wool combs, but it’s bigger. A drum carder makes woolen prep fiber. I use the hackle to comb fleece I want prepped worsted. I can also use the hackle to make worsted blends. I have several videos up showing how to use it. If you go on my channel homepage select playlist from the top bar, and I have them organized. It’s in the “blending, carding and combing” folder. Making blends on a hackle is super fun! Enjoy!
Concave is much better for dizzing off a hackle/comb because it funnels the neighboring fiber into it. I got mine on Etsy. It was a long time ago, I am not sure I remember who specifically.I will see if I can find it.

If the wool has a strong smell it may be a ram fleece. They can have a strong smell. Make sure it wasn’t wet when stored. Thanks for watching! 😀

Where did you buy your diz from? I haven't seen any concave, seems to be helpful to have it concave shape...
