Jason, it was your daughter who opened the refrigerator door. I was one, the first in the comments of that video, to mention changing the refrigerator door. Think about it, Jason. It is an efficiency while working in the kitchen. It is your wife who has to live with it!!! Put up a camera to watch how many times Lorean has to walk around the open door to place items from the refrigerator onto the counter to the left of the sink.
I loved the island...I agree, no wheels, the sliders are working great. I enjoyed watching you build it, too!

I said to move the Stove to where Refrigerator is, cause it isn't even vented from Attic to outside anyway, and that job should be done, anyway !
But then depending' on where Refrigerator gets spotted on Stove wall, the Refrigerator door swapping could relate, none of this matters, I'm just claiming, First !

So many people that consume meat don't have a clue of what commercial farming is like in the treatment of those animals in their final days. What I see on the small homesteads are usually compassion and respect for the animals and while they're alive they have good care. People consuming meat being upset at the reality that the animal needs to be dispatched to allow that meat to be consumed.

Jason! I have almost the exact same deer story! Years ago, I lived in the Palouse of Washington. It's steep rolling hills of wheat fields. I was also on a 2 lane road coming down a long hill. I saw this buck hauling a$$ off to the right, and I could tell by the trajectory we were going to run into each other. Had to make split second decision to slam on the brakes or speed up. I sped up, but that deer slammed into the side of my pickup, tumbled into the bed of the truck, then leaped out the other side and continued running in the field. About gave me a heart attack! 😂

Smithfield began as an old Virginia farming business. Hogs raised on Virginia peanuts. China purchased the company in 2013. Largest acquisition of an American company. 😢 I don't know anything about the dealings you guys were talking about, but certainly would not be surprised. Read the wiki report. It confirms a lot of what you mentioned...reading between the lines. BTW, I'm a lifelong Virginian (age 69) and grew up on on Smithfield meat. A ham from there was. A treat for Easter or Christmas. 😅Stopped eating it many years ago.
Thomas Massie's constitutional amendment begins with: "The right of the people to grow food and to purchase food from the source of their choice shall not be infringed,..."
Praying for 180° change in US food production with Trump, RFK, Massie, and Joel. 🙏🏻🇺🇸👍

Lowes has these freezers that can changed to a refrigerator or a freezer. You could use the refrigerator for your produce in the summer and then in the fall, turn it to a freezer for your meat butchering. I bought these and love the ability to have the option.

Another great video! Big business has too much control. Back in the 70s we raised a couple of hogs. We took them to a processer that slaughtered and gutted and there was a USDA inspection done. We picked up the entire "processed" hogs and did all the piecing out ourselves. Certainly not a professional job but it was edible and delicious.

Now, to Ben...I also watch each of your channel's videos. The endings of checking with Meg on what she's cooking for dinner are now a tradition. She cracked me up with the leftovers! Yeah, leftovers!
One of my mother's greatest dislikes was not cooking all from scratch...it was deciding what to cook. Our family always sat down at the kitchen table for dinner, just like you do.
One night, my father who always ate everything that my mother cooked, never complaining about any of the dishes, always eating seconds, said shortly after my mother also sat down, "Why is there nothing that I like tonight?" It was left-overs night...
I was in college...the oldest of four children...who all liked everything that my mother cooked, never knew that my father didn't like cooked squash until that night!

Wow! What a great, FUN episode this was! Y'all surely know how to make a Friday "off the charts" positive!
Now, about that refrigerator door issue....it seems to me (I'm not gonna say the words, "What you OUGHT to do..." so I'll just leave it at "it seems to me." So, it seems to me that you could tell people that you are representative of the many families who are homesteading and are very, very intentional about your food. And, having the fridge door on the "wrong" side simply makes each member of your family more INTENTIONAL about what you eat. So, your choice to leave the door right where it is can be a constant reminder of how much really good, healthy food is so important to the physical and emotional welfare of your family.
Or, you could run a survey. I can imagine, "Choose from the following which way you think Jason's fridge door should open."
Man, can you just imagine the comments that would come along with that futile effort at "poking the bear"? :-)
Now, regarding RFK, Jr and the potential new food/farming direction, what if: The three of you gather up at Al's place (because that's closest to RFK's stomping ground) some weekend and invite RFK to come and see how solidly positive family farms can operator. I'll bet there would be a robustly healthy exchange of great ideas!
Finally, thanks again for a terrific episode today!

And you have so many helpers with your water heater your you’re plucking machine. We had to haul the water. We had to heat the water in a big kettle outside. We had to haul the water to put the chickens in after they were plucked. We had to carry the water in a bucket to dip the chickens in. I really wished we had had one of your conveniences. We saw the fridge door situation when you first moved it and wondered if you ever changed it. Guess not. 🙂 Cooking and traveling from one thing to another in the kitchen, I would want the fridge to open into the kitchen instead of away from it; saves steps for Lorraine and provides more counterspace available to offload or upload fridge stuff.
Al's taped door windows: I figured that was on purpose since it was done before he moved to the current property and he is pretty meticulous about everything else.... Had to chuckle when meth windows were mentioned.

Yay, episode 73! Things here are blooming again! The trees have dropped their leaves though. I'm glad the pigs are happy in the chicken tractors. Our goats hardly drink any water either. I guess they get enough from the grass. I didn't watch the results either. Either way it wasn't going to be who I voted for. Cool, people from California and other parts for the pig butchering. Got the pig done fast! That's cool that some of your participants did some networking too. I'm glad you got your turkeys harvested Al! Thanks for showing your set up to us. I can't understand people that watch homesteading but think it's terrible if you eat your animals. I don't get it. They are healthy to eat! That's great that you got your slab for the cattle shoot poured. That was great that having concrete delivered instead of mixing bags of concrete yourself was cheaper. I think Carroll Concrete knows you now! That's weird that the animals haven't eaten the drowned moose. Crazy! Cute, that the Lumnahs went and saw a Christmas movie! I've been listening to Christmas music already. I've been buying Christmas presents already. I hate to wait too long. In Minnesota we get a white Christmas about half the time. Oh no Jason you almost got hit by a deer! I'm so glad that you saw him and you were able to slow down. I bet it was a buck. I love your kitchen island! It came out so well! Don't worry about flipping the fridge door. I didn't comment about that! I'm so sad that the viewers are so demanding! Yes, Al it's crazy that people can't deal with the tape on the windows. I don't even notice it! People are weird! You know that now! I'm so glad you have the kitchen so close to done. I'm so glad you have been able to sell the pig meat. Too bad some people didn't notice they had to pick it up. That's cute that you have to blur the mating of the pigs. It's crazy! It gets demonetized if you don't. I voted for RFK Jr! He knows these terrible stories from so many corporations! So much corruption in our food system. Tyson controls the chicken market! I hope he can bring back the small farms! Yay, Prime Act! Yes, make a living on a farm again. Yes, pasture raised animals have to be better to eat than grain raised. RFK Jr. also talks about the use of glyphosate too. Thanks Mike for giving Jason a freezer! Funny Al said you could more up by him. Thanks for another great video guys!

That’s our tradition. We do it after Thanksgiving, but believe me I’m so eager to at least start one area, but I don’t know we’re still doing home projects 🌲

I think I made that remark to you, Jason. It was only a suggestion that was made in the spirit of trying to be helpful. :) You could put wheels on your island. Oh, BTW, the island looks nice, too. I'll have to put it on my todo list to always remind you. :)

We're still fighting flies here in Missouri, too. The canning season is going on a bit longer than usual. We ordered an electric flytrap from Amazon this summer as an experiment and it's worked pretty well. It probably lowered the kitchen fruit fly population by 95%. It's called an FVOAI Fruit Fly Trap. You should be able to search for it. It costs $30. It worked so well we bought a second one. Just thought I'd pass that along.

During the season the farm I live on kills weekly 400 plus sometimes less. They are winding down with turkeys about 100 and I'm thinking this Monday is possibly the last butchering day. It's a long season. I mostly clean up... doing 40 plus gizzards for those turkeys is hard on the hands but the customers are happy for the labor put in.. it takes the whole family plus any extras who want to see how it's done which is always a blessing. Many hands make light work!❤

Ok, I am one of those annoying people that commented on your fridge door, Jason.
Your daughter went into the fridge while you were videoing. lol
I think we all just wanted you to have the “perfect” renovated kitchen and you had to change the door to make it “perfect”.
We are just trying to help you with your goals to make your wife happy. Lol

I really do supposed to rain in the weekend I got a project that is an Outdoor carpentry.🔨. And then I’ll be done for a little while, but we live in Old house 1929. About 9 yrs ago a licensed kitchen cost around $15.000 to build and required annual inspections. It required a separate septic tank for the blood wastes. All washed waste went into a outside gutter, into a cement box in ground with a basket in it to capture solids. Then it flowed into the tank. Walls and tables were Stainless steel. First room was for skinning/cleaning then into the cutting and packaging then coolers/ freezers. It could have been 12x20. Mainly for rabbits.

Good one guys. I figured you would talk about the future with maybe changes to food plans. Time to get the junk out of food. You all have a plan. Most people stuck eating what's available good or bad.
    Thanks
