I said this elsewhere, but there wasn't a backend for him on Squid Game , so he didn't get any kind of compensation when Squid Game blew up like it did. Thus, Netflix offered him "I'm set for life" money in exchange for season's two and three. I can't say I blame him for taking it.
i dont know what you watched, but the acting is still amazing, and the quality is still great imo. the plot is continue, and just 1 season would have felt incomplete
I just finished watching the entirety of the new season of Squid Game , and to say I was sorely disappointed would be an understatement. It is not bad by any means, but in comparison to its glowing predecessor, it falls short in every way. It felt like I was watching a new action/thriller movie halfway through, and there are so many underdeveloped storylines mixed in. What has occurred in the years that have gone by since the last season? I get that 456 became immersed in hunting down the creators of the game and stocked up on weaponry, but that’s basically all the info the show gives us. Anyways, without giving away spoilers, I thought the ending of the season felt extremely out of place and even unfinished. I genuinely had to look up if Netflix was releasing the new season in 2 separate parts because of how unfinished it felt. So much is left unanswered, and so many new storylines are created when the old ones have not even been finished yet. Season one felt immersive and created emotional connections in relation each character; season two just feels like a cash grab for a show that never needed a second seqson.
Sort of, the writer didn't exactly get paid in proportion to the success of Squid Game season one. This is because with streaming, even post writers' strike, back ends don't really exist. So, Netflix paid him a *lot* of money to come back and do seasons two and three. I can't say I blame him for that, since he probably got "I'm set for life" money out of it.
Nah. There are several articles saying that he didn't want to write more but was basically forced into it. The guy lost teeth out of stress. He also didn't receive royalties/bonus despite the show's massive success and Netflix milking it.
As a caveat, I did not expect season 2 to be anywhere near as good as season 1 but was still disappointed. I also have the same view as you in terms of not being vertain where there is to go from s1. However, to attempt to answer your question, though, I imagine some people were expecting season 2 to be as good if not better than season 1 because the budget was supposedly meant to be 5 times higher than the first season and the director has been on record saying he was able to fully realize his creative vision, whether it was the set building or CGI, he didn’t have to compromise. Now, I am fully aware that pouring more money in doesn't necessarily result in a better outcome, but I totally get why people would have high expectations because of it.
I think the biggest factor is the director making the decision, to take the avengers & Star Wars route by making it a 3 part trilogy. There is no way the 2nd season could match the 1st, if its main purpose was to set up the final season. The Tug of war & the bridge game is iconic & on a whole nother level. If you compare it to 1st, it will be a letdown, but if you look at it as a setup for the 3rd season & you ‘turn your brain off” & just enjoy it for the entertainment value, I think it’s not a bad sequel. Personally, i liked the plot better in season 2, but I may be in the minority lol.
I'm honestly unsure how anyone could expect s2 to be anywhere near as good as s1. S1 pretty much started with the stakes cranked up to 11...I'm not really certain where there is to go from there.
Yeah, during Ep 4: When they realized their lives are at stake, they still joked around having been enlisted in the marines in the past and then saluting each other as "soldiers"? Dude people are literally dying and they can still laugh over trivial matters. Even the protagonist chuckled like what?
0:07 The Front Man will be in prison for murdering , violence, suicide, Front Man will be sentence to death the game will be detain , for murdering innocent people, Police will step foot on Squid Game island
They should have killed 456 in the first 3 episodes and build up a new main protagonist, kind of like in tlou2. They really failed to develop his character in this season anyway
Nope, quality of S2 is very bad. Radically different than S1, like it is not the same show. Bad acting and out of place comedy. It has nothing to do with the plot. S2 feels dumb
Okay that cliffhanger was clearly personal

Why is there another comment like this
The other one is from Mariam waqar

season 2 LITERALLY came out TODAY.
Welcome to 2025 where things can be watched anytime anywhere. Instant gratification.
August 2024 something doesn't sound right

Exactly! It should have just been a miniseries. It’s going to feel slower and repetitive.
They pulled out all the tricks for S1

Why did they try to make this a half-comedy? It’s insulting to the viewers…
Basically it was all fine till the show became huge and then fans wanted more and then Netflix basically forced him to do more
0:07 The Front Man will be in prison for murdering , violence, suicide, Front Man will be sentence to death the game will be detain , for murdering innocent people, Police will step foot on Squid Game island
There isn't supposed to be a season 2. Writer didn't have that in mind. It got too popular that's why the creator wanted to milk it. Cash grab.
Uuuuuh, he REALLY didn't want to make this. The production company practically forced him, to my understanding.
0:19 Police will need Air Support in Season 3 , and bring it end of the Squid Game
And they already signed for a last and third season so it’s unsurprising season 2 ending is « unfinished »

Hell nah
Hell nah imagine being the main character in season 1 then comming back with a new arc to stop the game only to get killed in the first 3 episodes
We know absolutely nothing. Pathetic clickbaiting. Rethink your life and do better

It has nothing to do with the plot. S2 feels dumb
