What several others said about getting the suction started then letting it gravity drain. I got a 50 foot python at tank 8 or so. I’m running 25 today. Another huge time and worry saver is to purchase a hard plastic screw/grate to cover the end. While vacuuming and draining it prevent the smallest fry or adult fish being sucked in. Lee’s makes their own version of Python as do several other companies. Lee’s also makes the end cover which fits perfectly. Cost $7 or so. I just used mine for the ten fresh water tanks in this room. But with the theft that my city already charges for water it just not economical. Maybe I can find a way to attach a small pump to the other end. Any idea on the hose diameter?

Ron, I had the same issues with it wasting alot of water. Also I never felt the water pressure was strong enough. So I started using a pond pump to take the water out and I would siphon 1 or 2 buckets of substrate to pick up all the poop. That's seems to work for me and the water bill isn't crazy.

I attach it to a submersible pump. I place the pump in a bucket under the faucet in the bathtub. You can adjust the follow of the water going in the bucket to match the flow of the pump so your bucket doesn't overflow too much in the bathtub.
Can you stop the water flow of the Python at the aquarium end? Say you sucked up a small fish accidentally (I did this recently with an electric blue Acara juvenile that got stuck in my siphon) - or, do you have to run back to the sink to turn it off?

I've never seen a more impractical thing in my life. What I've done in the past was just use my hose from outside, turn the water on for a few seconds and let it gravity drain to the outside and it drains FAST.. But, I thought this looked much easier than dragging a dirty hose in the house. Never in a million years did I have to think that I'd be running constant water to make the suction? Why can't this just work like any other siphon? I tried it without the water running and I could take a 3 hour nap before it got done and my tank is only 46 gallons. A big waste of money.
I dont know how you make it look so easy, Mine is just like a water sprinkler, leaks everywhere, it is so cumbersome to use. Ok on the draining but its water everywhere when trying to refill. An £80 waste of money.
I just got this system, but am I the only one who's 🤢 about the idea of all that biowaste / possiblly even parasites splashing all into the bottom of the kitchen sink which is a human food area? My bathroom sink doesn't have rivets inside or outside of faucet. True but it’s painfully slow
Interesting..
Thats going to depend on the height of the tank vs your sink. Some setups may require constant running faucet.
we are unable to get the unit to start suction no matter what wr have tried.
Crank the water out of the spout, make sure all connections are tight, and make sure the hose isn’t twisted
All of the things listed was checked. Thanks for the quick reply
I really want to get freshwater clouded archerfish but I know nothing about them
Mine starts building up to much pressure and then starts wanting to explode out of the green adapter.
I don't shut off the water on the hose because, you're right, it builds too much pressure
You don't let it overflow so your spouse yells at you and hits you with a frying pan? Where is your sense of adventure??? ;)
Catfish Cave Hahahaha
I've never seen a more impractical thing in my life. What I've done in the past was just use my hose from outside, turn the water on for a few seconds and let it gravity drain to the outside and it drains FAST.. But, I thought this looked much easier than dragging a dirty hose in the house. Never in a million years did I have to think that I'd be running constant water to make the suction? Why can't this just work like any other siphon? I tried it without the water running and I could take a 3 hour nap before it got done and my tank is only 46 gallons. A big waste of money.
I just brought my 3 very first freshwater clouded archerfish I’m excited and scared the reason I’m scared I hope I don’t keep them
I dont know how you make it look so easy, Mine is just like a water sprinkler, leaks everywhere, it is so cumbersome to use.
Also, I don't know how old the plumbing is here and should I be concerned about how to ensure this thing isn't backing up at all into my water system?
Did you try your shower faucet
what if i have sand?
I have sand in the majority of my tanks. I just hover above the sand
Once the suction starts turn off the tap the water will still siphon out
Yes that’s true. It’s slows it down though

I think spending all that money on the python system is a lower priority then getting rid of blue gravel
Shortly after this video I changed the blue gravel to white sand. I’ve recently changed this tank again. Check it out!

@@FridayFishFacts WIll do, sorry if I came off as rude. You have very beautiful aquariums!
OstrichLicker lol, it didn’t. My kids picked the blue a long time ago 😁
so waste the water just for a water change?
Convenience isn't free
@@dylanhughes5944 depends how smart you are
@@alejandroszewczuk4958 well when the water costs about 1 cent more than otherwise besides potentially damaging your apartment rental with water on the floor hmm pretty hard decision
@@dylanhughes5944 dude… I bought an electric water pump. Its not about saving money, its more about taking care of our natural resources .
@@alejandroszewczuk4958 unless you're getting your water for free or at a subsidized rate you are literally paying for the same recycled water. You use it, it goes into your sewage, it gets treated and sent back your way. It's as renewable as it gets. Now sure when there is an actual water supply emergency we need to reduce our usage but right now just looking at the numbers in my area no such water emergency exists. There are also a crap ton of lakes that get replenished with fresh water whenever it rains.
