    That Nisi (the VND that comes with the G5 matte box), screwed me on an interview I did with a climate scientist last year. I couldn't fix it in post. And I bought the Nisi, paid $600 for the kit, and thought I must be safe. Nope! Thanks for clarifying this!

    Really interesting findings... I think I need to get an IR cut filter then as I was running into an issue with a Freewell ND on a Nikon whereas I wasn't seeing it on a Sony... and am now curious if that was the problem.

    This is interesting. I haven't seen any talk about IR Pollution with the Fuji. I'm thinking that maybe it's because of the X-Trans sensor.

    This video is fantastic. What con you suggest me for my gears. I shot with blackmagic and sigma (18-35/50-100) + nisi VND. The magenta shift is terrible. do you think it's better to buy the nisi ir filter or change the brand?

  • @ChrisFlores22

    I just saw your vnd comparison video and the uneven light transmission is exactly what I just experienced! I film outdoors and liked how the colors were even but when I edited I saw the exact same thing with the sky looking darker in spots and I couldn’t fixed it. I can still return this filter to Amazon. Do you have a filter that you recommend? I do like using 1-5 stops since it comes in handy when filming indoors (lumix vlog)
    The freewell v2 seems cool but I can’t use it indoors with it being a 3-7 stop and I haven’t tested it yet outdoors. Any suggestions please??

    • @Josh_Sattin

      I haven't used the Freewell filters. Besides rear mount ND filter adapters I have been exclusively using the Nisi True Color VND filters for a while now because they had the least amount of color shift (when not used on cameras with IR issues). I got in the practice of maximizing the VND and then backing it off a touch to get rid of the uneven exposure. No VND is perfect, there are always tradeoffs.

    • @ChrisFlores22

      @@Josh_Sattin I’ll try that next time! On the nisi I did crank it to 5 stops and hardly touched the aperture so next time I’ll step down and not crank the nisi to 5 stops

    • @ChrisFlores22

      @@Josh_Sattinhey man wanted to thank you again for recommending the NiSi vnd. So I got the 1-5 stop and I added the 4 stop nd. So now,if I need 5 stops I’ll crank to 1 stop on the vnd and just add the 4 stop filter on top. Even exposure on my skies and I can keep that even exposure all the way to 8 stops. Once I hit 9 stops the sky exposure isn’t even again because it’s using the 5+4. Hope that makes sense and that solves my sky uneven exposure problem. Thanks man!

    8:16 it's not that they didn't have enough IR filtration to call them IR nd, it's plain and simple, they didn't think about it either like 95% of us.

    So I just tested the NISI true color with a X-T4 and it was the same issue, made a video that is in my channel. Not happy with NISI purchase, and not truly convinced with NISI IR cut as a solution (not perfect), nevertheless I'm glad that didn't use it in paid job, so thanks to Josh Sattin for sharing this. Extra note: With the 5 to 9 stops NISI overlay filter the issue is not visible.

    • @Josh_Sattin

      I'm not surprised it showed up on the X-T4 as well. That's interesting about the 5-9 stop overlay filter. I don't have that to test it out.

      @@Josh_Sattin I could see myself sticking to the nisi for indoor shoots but outdoors what do you recommend? Also, I shoot on an eva1 and I find it harder to dial in exposure with its nds. Is it a sin or pointless to slap a vnd on my lens and bypass the eva1 nds??

    This makes me wonder about how this affects taking still photos with the X-H2S

    • @Josh_Sattin

      It shouldn't unless you are using a ND filter.

    • @IanButterworthyyc

      @@Josh_Sattin Hmm, the IR is always there form the sun, so it needs time to accumulate in the shadows I guess. Any practical photo is too quick to show it, unless using an ND. I'm really curious to try some experiments, but then I need an IR block filter :-) I have an ND, I don't know know well it blocks IR, I need to test it. IR would only show under sunlit photos or videos.

    • @Josh_Sattin

      It’s not about shutter speed. As I explain in the video it’s about when you block visible light with the ND filter the ratio of IR to visible light goes up and that’s when it shows up.

    • @IanButterworthyyc

      @@Josh_Sattin I see what you’re saying now! The ND filter (some of them) blocks visible, but not IR, thereby increasing the proportion of IR and contaminating the image.

    of course, it's not BAYERN sensor!!!! it's not the camera fault! no it doesn't suffer for ir pollution, it's the way NISI is calibrated
