    Great video! I landed here as I have an X-H1 and recently purchased the X-S20 to have better video capabilities and also to have a smaller body for when I shoot personal work while traveling or on adventures. I shoot lifestyle, architecture, product and some experience photography professionally and have used my X-H1 since 2018 with great results. With me picking up more architecture work I have started looking at upgrading my X-H1 as its behind in technology and the 40mp sensor is appealing. I do love the manual controls on the X-H1 but as a previous Canon shooter I have adapted easily to the X-S20 controls so the X-T5 is on my radar. I'm comparing the X-T5, X-H2 and X-H2s for my shooting needs. I'm leaning towards the X-T5 due to size and also the fact it will be a photography camera 90% of the time and the X-S20 for video. I'm like you, and think the X-H2 might be slightly generic in the scheme of things and next year if I was to purchase the X-T5 I might be thinking it was a good decision in the event its Fuji last X line camera with manual controls...who knows. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and if you had any advice for me it would be appreciated.

      Honestly this is a tricky one. I would probably say that the X-H2 is the better choice because of build quality and ergonomics, especially since you shoot professionally and probably use your camera a ton. I think the X-T5 would be my choice if I wanted to go compact. For this wedding season I will need another body and since I have the X-H2S I might end up with the X-H2 so that I can have them set just the same way… but if I was starting all over would I go with two X-T5’s 🤔
      A drawback to the X-H2 is the cf express type B cards are more pricey, but faster and better built too. It really feels like the better camera given the choice between the two. But you can’t argue with how fun the X-T5 is to shoot with.
      So I guess I have no good answers for you 😅😅

      Glad to hear I'm not the only one having a tough time deciding! Since I just purchased the X-S20 I am thinking now that I might even hold off from another purchase and keep using my X-H1 for a bit. It's a little quirky with some new lenses (like the 18mm 1.4) as it hunts for focus sometimes but works flawlessly on the X-S20. It's proven to be a workhorse and I would kind of hate to retire it. Built quality is important as my X-H1 is very well used but holding up great. One of the dial locks doesn't depress in some settings as I think I have a piece of sand in there but other than a few scratches and dings it keeps on working! Funny you say you might go with two X-T5's if you had to do it all over. For weddings you probably wouldn't push the buffer and would have two cameras that are compact and similar controls. I have a feeling, that if I had a X-T5 and X-H2 in front of me, I'd take the X-T5 first as it gets me more excited to shoot just from the nostalgia of manual controls and with it being a slightly smaller body. I shoot alot outdoors and am on rivers fishing so I like to take a camera with me on some outings or in the boat. Another mark in the X-T5 column for portablity. And the X-T5's are currently on backorder unless you get them with the kit, which I don't want as I already have most of the lenses I need. X-H2 is only $150 more now and those are in stock. So is the X-T5 shortage maybe an indicator that most are liking that camera more than the X-H2? Maybe I wait until the backorder of X-T5's is over and then see if I am feeling like I still want to upgrade. Thanks again for your response and looks like I'm in good company here, so tough to make a decision!

    Hi Chris, thanks for the video. I am doing more video on a hobby scale and up to now have been shooting photography with an XE-4, XT-5 and X-H2. With getting more into video I am thinking to either leave Fuji for the video part with a real video camera (i.e. Canon, Red) and having two different sets for video/photography or sticking with the Fuji eco system (although the rigging and de-rigging is annoying). Quality wise I most likely never will need the RED or a new C80, as I am doing this as a hobby and don't need to earn money with it. So I want to decide on another body, maybe a X-H2S and maybe sell the XT-5 and can still use all my lenses. In photography it was also annoying to cary the X-H2 and XT-5 and switching between different interfaces.

    Enjoyed this video, Chris! I’m still in a place where I’m deciding what direction I want to go from my X-T4, as someone who needs my workhorse to take great photos, but factors video features in at a higher priority. From one Fuji TH-camr to another, you’ve got my sub, dude!

    It will remain relevant because of the form factor + price. With the X-H2 you're basically getting an X-T5 (same internals) in a tank quality body that fits bigger hands (deep grip) and offers the PASM dial layout which many pros prefer. And there's the AI autofocus with continued firmware enhancements. And it's way less money than the X-H2s. What's the drawback here? I can't find one.

    i also shoot with the XH2S mainly, and its perfect for video, but i still prefer the XT5 for shooting photos, i can dial my settings faster and its more tactile, and one handed use (̶e̶s̶p̶e̶c̶i̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶s̶w̶i̶t̶c̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶p̶h̶o̶t̶o̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶v̶i̶d̶e̶o̶ ̶m̶o̶d̶e̶)̶ is better on the XT5 imo. but for everything else, the open gate, flippy screen, and stacked sensor are worth the XH2S i feel like.
    EDIT: i just found you can assign the record button to recall another custom setting, this camera keeps getting better and better.

    I own both… I’m also holding onto both. For me, my 2-camera setup having the exact same body, ports, and able to use the same exact accessories made more sense. I initially pre-ordered the X-T5, but after using the X-H2s for a few weeks I cancelled it and quickly grabbed the X-H2. Having access to the faster card slot on both bodies and at these price points was a huge plus!

    You made a great point regarding the X-H2 and X-T5 relationship. I have thought that this was much like what happened to the X-H1 when the X-T3 came out. As an amateur/enthusiast photography, the X-H cameras are just too expensive. I have an X-T3 that I bought barely used back in 2020. I love it. It will be with me for a while! The other problem with the X-H in terms of cost is the more expensive data cards. Question: You mentioned shooting sports and I thought you said something about a race. Do you shoot auto racing? Either way, what Fuji lens to you like for sports? Right now I used the xf90mm f2. That's my longest reach AF lens. I'm researching and shopping(I'm very patient!) right now. My intuition says xf5-140 and the 1.4x TC. But, wondering what you use and/or think about it. Thanks for the great insights. Have a good weekend.

    • @Christellezphoto
      @Christellezphoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Awesome to hear you’re loving the X-T3! It is such a fun camera.
      As for the zoom options, I shoot running and track events so not quite as fast as your needs but still certainly requires quick AF.
      I think I would probably think about the 50-140, or the 70-300. The former has the benefit of the 2.8 aperture, but if what you’re shooting doesn’t require super low light capabilities, I think the 70-300 is a great budget option if you’re not making money off the photos.
      Now, I’ve also rented the 100-400 and loved it. Both that and the 50-140 would be my choices for professional work simply for the build quality and little boost in AF Performance.
      But all three are in different budgets so you’ll have to think about that! I haven’t used much in the way of telephoto lenses from third parties, so I can’t speak to that

    Love my H2s. Finally reliable AF or at least the first Fuji that doesn’t feel too far behind canon/sony. Weird to not see touch follow focus on video yet. What’s your your go-to lenses for hybrid work? 16-55 rocks but that combo gets substantial for traveling with a crop body.

    • @Christellezphoto
      @Christellezphoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly I love the tampon 17-70. Not having the aperture ring sucks… but now that you can map the front dial it makes it easier. Still not perfect but I think the AF works really well with that lens, it’s lighter, cheaper, weather sealed and has OIS (VC)… so I think it’s pretty solid!

      If you’re planning on using two cameras, with different focal lengths attached, I would say you’re best going with a comparable body such as the x-h2/x-h2s or the x-s20 (only one card slot though)
      But if it’s only to have just in case, as a true back up and not a second camera to shoot the event with, I’d say an x-t3/4!
      X-t4 uses same battery so that’s a plus, but image quality is the same essentially.

    • @juliette-mansour

      @@Christellezphoto thank you! Yes, I use the second camera for both a back up and preliminary random portraits while I use the XH2S for everything else that happens during the event. The H2 and H2S are designed to work together, to compliment each other. They are not to be competing with one another. The idea is that really, you're supposed to have both, for different reasons. They are like having a flat head and Phillips screw driver. Neither one is better.

    Yeh the XH2 was a bit of a blunder imo. It really caused a stir within the community. I think many gave the XH2S a pass because it was clearly a hybrid and PASM+Custom made sense, but the XT5 really got the short end of the straw. The poorer EVF, no CFeB slot, no battery grip and generally poorer build quality compared to the XT4... it made the Fuji community feel like Fuji are turning their back on their retro dial core fan base. If the XT5 was done properly and there was an XH2S, everyone would be happy.
    Just one question Chris. Currently I shoot Stills for weddings, events but primarily orchestras. This year I want to up my game and include a little video. I am across the settings and such, and gear... but it sounds like you try to strive for a balance between grabbing stills and some video for your clients. Are you adding a gimbal to the mix? It seems like such a cumbersome piece of kit for the sake of just grabbing 3-4 sec clips/moments in time (for the intent of stitching together for a short reel/ad). The rotation mechanism of many seem to be orientated where the hand would go for proper camera holds...
    I wonder if perhaps my funds would be better suited to upgrading from Free Resolve to Studio, upskilling technique and possibly shooting more in open gate and investing in some better post processing stabe software/plugin? I'm just curious to your approach. It feels like compromises have to be made when doing both tasks, is the gimbal a deal breaker or still a necessary piece of kit and if so how do you work around it when doing Stills.
    Thanks,
    Eddy

    • @Christellezphoto
      @Christellezphoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok so on the fujifilm side of things, I’m with you… the X-T5 just felt a little rushed to me. Build quality and some of the things it was lacking… I don’t quite get it.
      But I think the X-H2 would be my go-to for stills just because I know I can comfortable use it all day with the ergonomics. However if it was more travel, street, documentary or even studio, the X-T and X-Pro lines would still be my preference for the dials. I’m for sure with you on your points though.
      As for the question of the gimbal… I struggle with it. I find it pretty indispensable for certain things, especially when I’m chasing down athletes or doing the odd real estate gig. However for a lot of my stuff I find that if I just try for a more static shot with maybe a little sway for motion, I can get away with it.
      If you have open gate, I would say shoot a little wider than you need so you can crop in a little for stabilization, that’s what I generally do and the results work fairly well.
      I usually have a gimbal with me or in my car on a shoot if I think there’s a chance I’ll need it, but you’re right, it’s a total pain.
      I do think that putting money towards education and DaVinci Studio would probably go a long way, but you can also get a gimbal second hand for pretty cheap now, so there’s that to think about.
      No great solutions unfortunately… just using the little handheld techniques like a neck strap for extra contact and tension, ninja walking and deliberate movement to mitigate the shakes? Wish I had a more TH-cam friendly answer for you!
