  • Employee timekeeping can be a major concern to employers. Particularly in businesses which require staff to clock-in. Lateness, absenteeism, even keeping track of sick leave can all act as a distraction to the time-pressed manager.
There can be occasions when an employee’s time keeping goes awry and your attention is taken away from other important tasks to manage their lateness. Didn’t you have enough to do already?
Whilst it might seem like a waste of your time to address it, an employee’s persistent lateness can lead to even bigger problems within your business.
There are a few simple steps that you can take to effectively manage employee lateness in your business. Following a fair procedure and having a company policy in place will help. Watch this video for more advice on how to handle late employees.

    Be late in paying them.

If they are late, you can deduct from their salary if you wanted to! But paying them late would be a breach of contract i'm afraid.

That's one way to approach it, but the problem there is that it slowly erodes working relationships with colleagues - the last thing you want is a team where resentment builds...

@@traceychudson And what do you do if an employee is always in on time but is always leaving late due to workload?

@@iamthegame09 Well that certainly needs addressing if their workload is unmanageable. If it's because of a particular project and is a short period of time then working a bit longer to get a job done isn't unusual in a salaried role, but if it is always happening and they are continuously working late then it needs addressing. Is the workload too high? Is the employee not being as productive as they could? Are their distractions that stop them focussing? Certainly worth a chat to find out what's going on with them.
