Hey Friends! I made a mistake. Rowie409 pointed out (although I can’t find his comment anymore.. I don’t know if TH-cam is deleting stuff?) at 6:49, that NOT everything I did remained exactly as I had animated it. He pointed out that because I changed the layer scale, the scale in the behavior actually inverted the layer rather than zeroing it out. So it ended up flipping the animation upside down for the first few frames. I didn’t catch that and I’m so glad Rowie409 pointed that out! To fix this set the scale in your behavior to negative whatever your layer scale size is. For example if the scale is set to 79% then you would set the scale in the behavior to -79% instead of -100%. Hope that makes sense! Thanks Rowie409 for pointing that out! Wish your comment was still here for me to pin it.
Generally, when you apply overshoot to a target - in this case properties/scale - you want to leave that target parameter alone. If for example, you want overshoot applied, but also wanted to have the overall size of the comp to be adjustable - then group first, then use the group scale instead - and that is the parameter in this case that you would need to publish to give control in FCP. Yup, I removed the message, I just wanted to shout out to let you know the error, not leave it as a permanent comment. Feel free to remove this comment when you've seen it.
You are one of the few who talks about motion 5 here on youtube. I love this software for its simplicity and versatility. I don't understand why it's not as popular as After Effects. Anyway, thank you so much for your valuable tutorials, I'm learning a lot!
That last part about the background fading is very helpful. I never knew about it and there have been several graphics I've downloaded and used that would do that. I always thought it was a glitch or something. Now I can fix it! Thanks!
hey awesome tutorials man! I’m intrigued as to why would you animate on a 60fps timeline. Doesn’t it cause problems later on when editing in a 24fps or 30fps timeline in FCP?
Nope! Motion does a great job of adjusting the timing with different frame rates. Typically that’s an issue you would expect, but Motion does a great job of working with Final Cut Pro and doesn’t have those issues. I animate on a 60fps timeline though purely for the sake of it looking better on TH-cam with smoother frame rate. A little easier to see how the animation is working. But on a regular project, I’d likely do 24 or 30 just so I get an exact idea of how it will look in the finished product.
damn good explanation of the awesome features of motion! thx for that, will watch more of your videos soon to make my own animations even better (and easier) thx!
Again wow thanks i needed something like this instead of buying a template at 100$ on motionvfx lol ! Those markers at the end to use for Fcp, is the the faster way than clicking on each effects and doing publish? What's the difference between the two?
The markers just set the exact timing in FCP. But publishing the parameters gives you control over the parameters from within FCP! So you will still need to publish each individual parameter regardless of whether or not you set markers.
voce e um colirio para os olhos!!! aqui no Brazil, ninguém repito... ninguém!!!!!!!! usa o Motion, as produtoras tem grande pre conceito sobre este software. mas graças a Deus achei voce! muito obrigado!
Yo Dylan ! Greetings from Germany ! Can you also import a Videofile to Motion5, then Mask out a Logo from a Shirt, Animate that with fire and Spinning around - then Back to the original Place with a Shockwave effect and then export that to FCP? Or how would you do effects like that ??? Would love to see a Tutorial like that brother :-) ! Im Learning Motion5 right now through your videos and that would help me loads ! or maybe we could ZoomCall for that haha, Thanks man !
how can i save this adjustment layer only with the invisible effect so i can put it on top of any image in fcpx to use the effect... ? as there are several plugins that you put this tittle layer on top of an image it generates this animation... thanks and congratulations for the tutorials
Unfortunately, you cannot :( I have sent this request in to Apple a couple times. I don't know if it will ever come, but it would make a world of difference for presets! -- You could create the animation, and export it with an alpha channel, sound included. Then drop that in on your timeline. But that's not really going to save you very much time... Thanks for watching!
@@TheFinalCutBro One day man. One day. Makes so much sense. I haven't even started using the software and I thought of it. I'm sure someone in house has too. Thx for the reply. Really loving your stuff. I'm going to start doing one tutorial a day of yours as a crash course on what's possible so I can plan my content based on telling s story with that edit in mind. Again thank you.
This was the final straw. I’m switching to Motion and FCP. I’m dreading how long this would have taken me in After Effects (let alone how many times I’d have to wait for it to render in between so I can see what I’m doing).

Question, I'm generally new to motion, pretty D cool for $50 , i've watched multiple vids and i'm have a bit of a challenge understanding the the way the group tracks work like i get the duplicating and separating an object so you can do different behaviors and properties to the same object ,but then you seem to make a group or groups in order have different options and control. what exactly are we grouping ? when and why are we doing it ,what exactly is being grouped .do you have to have multi tracks highlighted to do this?
Hi Dylan, I have a question ... I've want to have a go at kinetic typography (I like to think of it as song illustrations). If I'm using Motion, how would I set up my work space? Do I have to create a group for every line of the lyrics or phrase? Any suggestions, please. Thanks.
It depends on how you plan on animating the text. If you're going line by line, it would be easy to add one animation to that group and then copy and paste it for other groups that you would want to use in the same fashion.
I just saw there is not. Its weird how they have ir. Motion is more towards graphics i think. There is no way to fix the slope in the graph editor for footage. Im just gonna stick with AE it looks like. Love the channel!
There is indeed! It's in Behaviors > Retiming > Set Speed. By default it will set it to 50%. So if you hop in there you can set it to something like 100%, add a keyframe, move forward in time to the exact moment you want the speed ramp to end and add another keyframe. Then you can set the speed to something like 25% or 200%. There are additional controls to add in how long the ramp will take and how the curve of the ramp will work! If you want to add Optical flow to the clip in Motion. Select the clip, go to Properties, scroll all the way down, till you see "Timing" and click "Show" then near the bottom you should see "Frame Blending" and you can set the slow-mo to Optical Flow there. Hope that helps!
@@TheFinalCutBro thank you so much! 🙏🏼 there is no way to adjust it using graph editor like using the slope or so like in AE. Wont be useful for me the way they have it. But it good to try.
Great video. When I try to repeat the Overshoot behavior, it doesn't hold its final position. Instead it jumps back to what it was at the beginning. You don't seem to have done anything though to make yours hold. Is it an app preference or something? EDIT: Oops, this was happening because I had changed End Value to something other than 0.
Hopefully Apple releases with blackmagic design a free version and the improved paid version of Final Cut Pro That Has Everything In One Editor But only for MacOS Of course!

Really nice tutorial. Perfect timing and easy to follow. Thanks!
