    Dylan, this is insanely helpful. I'm more familiar with AE due to my job, but I would much rather do my motion graphic designs in Motion as it is SO MUCH FASTER. This video helps me tremendously! Same with all your Motion videos. There aren't nearly as many tutorials for Motion as there are for AE, and you are really doing all of us Motion lovers/users a huge favor!

    Very useful! Looking forward to more videos about the differences between Motion and AE!

    Is the intro and transitions on this video custom made by you or it is a template. I really like it and wondering if I can buy it somewhere

    Good comparison. Everything there in Motion. I find Motion a lot more pleasing.

      Have you tried "Keyper"? It's not quite there yet but the speed is amazing.

    Is there any sort of workaround/free plugin that works as an equivalent to AE's puppet tool? I know about mPuppet from motionVFX, but it's pretty pricey...

    Hey, Dylan! I'm struggling to decide whether to put all my time and energy towards Apple Motion or After Effects if I wanna get into motion graphics. What scares me is the high monthly payment for AE vs Apple Motion but I also realize that there might be better resources for AE than Apple Motion. You're a great resource for Apple Motion and I appreciate you! What's your opinion on using my time and energy wisely?

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to say for sure! I am a big advocate for Motion being far more powerful than people realize. And with some time and energy, you can take it to whole new levels.
      But that said, AE definitely still takes the cake in terms of sheer power.
      While I am not a big fan of subscriptions, I will say, you can add that subscription cost into your pricing if you are doing motion graphics professionally. I definitely think Adobe way overcharges, but they know they have a great product, and that there aren't a lot of options that can even touch it! So they will likely keep increasing the cost, until a large part of their user base just completely leaves.
      That said, one other thing you may want to consider is checking out Davinci Resolve's Fusion. It seems a little more daunting at first just due to it using nodes, but once you start to grasp how nodes are working, I think you may actually have a piece of software that out-preforms AE.
      All in all though, Motion is an outstandingly capable piece of software, and you could absolutely do some really professional jobs with it. Plus the $50 one time cost is absolutely amazing! But there are just infinitely more resources out there to learn stuff like AE and Davinci Resolve, which does make it more difficult to recommend going all in on Motion.

    • @euforiaz
      @euforiaz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFinalCutBro This is a very thorough and practical explanation. Thank you so much, Dylan! I'm looking into Fusion right now to see what it offers. I do wanna go all in on Motion, but like I said, I'm struggling with compartmentalising the limited time I have. I must do what's more sensible for the long game. I wish I could just do nothing but Apple motion !!

    Excellent videos as always. I am on the latest FCP/Motion version and noticed some weird things w/FCP, like it will not see any files on my DJI Mavic card at all, plus any other video exported seems to have green flashes throughout. Have you, or someone you know experienced those issues as well?

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh yes.. the green flashing. Absolutely drives me insane!
      Im not sure what causes it. Usually my best hope for that is exporting in prores and then exporting another version to h.264.. but even that doesn’t work all the time. Also generating optimized media helps too.
      As far as FCP not seeing your media.. that one I don’t have any ideas for.. maybe just dragging it to a finder folder and importing from there would help?

    i have a questions is Apple motion equivalent to After Effects? Im a beginner, So im not doing any major projects. Just wanna do cool VFX stuff i already have motion and FCPX.

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For serious VFX stuff you’d definitely want to be using After Effects. While Motion is very capable, it’s just not to the same level. Though that’s to be expected with the cost difference.
      However, if you’re doing Motion graphics, I’d argue Motion is even better than AE!

    Great compare/contrast video.
    Audio in Motion is great as a driver for effects but yeah, there's not much control inside either of those apps.

    Thanks for this video. Do one about keyboard shortcuts for AE users. I’m getting crazy learning the shortcuts in motion, they’re a bit unintuitive.

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be a great idea! As a side note, you can change all the keyboard shortcuts. Might be worth diving in and finding features you like in AE and rebinding those shortcuts.
      You might even be able to find a preset shortcut setup for AE users online. I haven’t checked yet, but I do know you can export shortcuts and share them with others.

    Can you do a video on essential but not obvious commands for motion? So skip things that transfer from final kind of like copy paste and the sorts.

    I'm curious if there are any differences with using groups as an adjustment layer vs what's available in AE. For simple things they may operate similar, but for more advanced things how does it hold up in Motion?
    In my experience, die hard AE users say that Motion can't do keyframes (which is false...idk where they got that) and there's no adjustment layer. Another thing I've heard is Motion doesn't have scripting like AE, to which my response is always how well do you actually know the scripting?
    I think most of it is just a lack of knowledge about Motion. I don't know any schools that teach it...it's always kind of been a learn on your own software.

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I honestly don’t know if my use cases of adjustment layers have ever been advanced enough in AE haha!
      For everything I have ever needed, groups have worked perfectly as an adjustment layer. Curious if there are specific uses you are thinking of?
      Most AE people that hate on Motion just haven’t used it. I used to be one of those people. But I started realizing the absolutely massive potential Motion had when I started up my channel. And I now actually prefer Motion over AE, despite AE being more powerful.
      And as far as scripting goes, you can go pretty dang far with just using parameter behaviors in Motion. I haven’t ever gotten SUPER into scripting, but the lighter things I have done, I generally find way easier to do with parameter behaviors.

    I wish they handled motion blur better, that was something that confused me when coming from adobe to apple software. It's a major oversight in my opinion.

    The title of this vid is misleading; as it implies that AE tools are AVAILABLE in Motion? Whereas, I think what you want to say is TASKS that are done in AE, done in Motion.

    the biggest thing missing from Apple Motion for me is a per-point feather control like in After Effects. You can't really rotoscope well in Motion with this limitation.

    • @righttoexplain
      @righttoexplain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh, I wouldn't say that. Motion has great rotoscoping capabilities.

  • @victorbraca6259

    Moral of the story, AE is better. (IMO)
    I'm an FCP guy all the way, but for me Motion cant compare to AE in even the simple stuff that I do.
    I'm mainly using/editing templates I download from Envato, and 99% of the good ones are compatible with AE and not Motion.

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After Effects is definitely better in terms of VFX, but I’d argue if you’re doing animation, Motion definitely has the upper hand. It’s just learning the new UI that causes the most frustration for people.
      If you’re working off templates though, you’re right. You’re going to have a much larger library of choices, due to the much larger user base. Hoping my channel can change that a bit over time!
      But it’s also pretty hard to not take into consideration a $50 one time fee vs a nearly $70 a month continually ongoing Adobe license.
      So for Motion graphics users wanting to save a lot of money. I’d definitely recommend they take a long hard look at Motion.
      Appreciate you watching!

    • @victorbraca6259
      @victorbraca6259 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. Apple always wins in terms of the price. I have AE covered for work tho, so I wanted to capitalize on that.
      Also, surprisingly enough, I found AE easier to show myself around in.
      Before I knew AE, I only knew Photoshop (in terms of Adobe), and when I loaded in a couple of templates into AE, I quickly learned my way around AE.
      But with Motion on the other hand, even with my pretty much expert level knowledge of FCP, I found it way less intuitive for some reason. I still do find it less intuitive. I think part of it is the effects being split up into 2 behaviors and filters, and all of the properties being split up into separate tabs in thee inspector window. Even tho its super similar to FCP and I love FCP, I find Motion pretty annoying.
      I also hate Motion's keyframe editor, but maybe I'm using it wrong? I would definantly love if you made a video about it. One main thing I hate is how it splits up X and Y scale. I always find it hard to work with Motion bezier keyframes.
      But it definantly wins in terms of price and speed (and ease with FCP).
      by the way - love the videos lately! That boring to cinematic one was sick.
