My wife used to pass thru that border often from Phnom Penh. Funny that she used to have a clothing stall in Kandal market where she would buy Thai fashion from BKK to sell in Cambodia. The Chinese have garment factories in Cambodia to take advantage of the cheap labor therefore most of the stuff in that market are made in Cambodia. The really high quality items destined for the global brands usually ‘fell of the truck’ or didn’t meet the quality standards (wrong sowing, etc). Enjoyed the video and hope for your wife’s continued success in the clothing business.

I've been a vintage clothes dealer for the last 20 years...and I've been meaning to go to this market for the last 15 years but never made it,
I live in Thailand like you and have a marriage visa'', but I go back to England for 3/4 month to sell the stuff I find in Thailand.
I find a lot for vintage clothing in the local markets and out and about to..
if you know your stuff you can make very good money..and its fun to do if you don't mind getting a bit dusty and sweaty.

I am sure someone has already commented this but the way these clothes get into Cambodia are often from Christians in the United States. I personally sell on eBay and other platforms and know people who go to estate sales and yard sales just to find the vintage stuff. they often will buy out all of the clothing for a really cheap price then sell what they can and donate the rest to Asian missionaries. They do the same thing with south and central America as well. Which in turn shows you how much of a consumerist society The United States is.

Looks like Bobae Market in Bangkok, just ten times bigger and they deal in "bundles" (used clothes from Japan and Korea) rather than mass-produced clothes from China. Lots of bundle stores here (in KL), like you say, the contents of a bundle are pretty random but if you know what you are doing there is quite a bit of demand for some of the clothes - I have heard that some people even sell to customers in the US. Elephant pants - going price in Chiang Mai seems to be 100 baht, once in a while you see them for 90 baht. The last time I visited i brought back a half dozen or so as gifts.. 😁 Curious about how many you have to buy to get that 60 baht price.. if that's for one, it will probably go down to 40 baht if you buy a couple dozen.. at Bobae if you enquire about prices they will first ask you how many do you need.. Getting lost in a market.. yeah, it's easy to do. Three hours though? 😁 Come to think of it.. the only real reason I have for visiting Bobae is to buy socks by the dozen, and the halal food area nearby. There's a cool neighborhood behind it, too, where people live next to the railroad tracks.
