    It’s my opinion that these robot mowers need a lot more development before they become useful to the average user. It’s was like that with robot vacuums. I am not thinking of investing in one of these yet. Maybe in a couple years. Great video

      Can't say I totally disagree, although we are close. I still consider this bleeding edge tech and it is not for everybody. For the first product from a vacuum company this is actually pretty good.

      I would have said the same 2 weeks ago. But since then I bought the A1, and if you can live with the minor flaws Jamie points out (I agree with his review entirely), then there is no reason to wait. Im SO happy with mine.

    Great review, and completely accurate, although most of the software issues you pointed out have been resolved now. You can now split a zone in to multiple zones with their own settings and schedule (no overlapping zones though), you can spot mow (implemented a bit weirdly, its like a zone within a zone which actually is handy for areas where you often need to spot mow, like furniture areas). There is still a long list of things I wish to see, but in its current state its perfectly usable.

    Informative review, thanks!
    Does it have a mode like their vacuums in multi floor houses do, where you can manually move it a zone that isn't physically accessible to the robot?

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it does. I just tested this by placing it a zone and it did a relocating to find it's position and started mowing.

    • @vertigo2893

      Yes and no. At least with the current software, it needs to drive to every zone at least once to create a path, otherwise it will not mow a disconnected zone. You can cheat if you want, making a temporary path, or driving a ridiculous long way all around the block, all that is fine, but you do need to do it once. Once the path is created, you can drop it in zone and have it mow there.

    Since Yuka and Dreame got similar price, between both, which one do you prefer?
    Im thinking to get one, but im doubting😅

      Describe your yard to me.

    • @Carltheblackone
      @Carltheblackone 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamie.andrews Its a quite simple yard of less than 1.000 m2 with a slight inclination in a corner. No trees at the moment, just a pool right in the middle of the yard.
      Thx mate!
      PD: No dog😅

      @@Carltheblackone The Lidar system on the Dreame for small yards is better than GPS and easier to setup since it does not need an RTK station. It is also more precise. On the flip side object avoidance really needs a camera like found on the Yuka. You can double the size of the battery on the Yuka buy buying an additional battery and you can add a sweeper kit to the Yuka. You can buy a garage for the Dreame, but not the Yuka. I really need a comparison video between these 2 as they are very close. I will say Mammotion pushes updates more frequently.

    Just a friendly heads up...the video incorrectly states this is equipped with "omnidirectional wheels"...however...it is not. They are normal caster style wheels...

    These robot mowers aren't good for St Augustine grass. If you notice the blades of grass are being split, which leads to disease. My Zoysia and Bermuda sections are really benefitting, since the grass doesn't split and I can mow it every other day.

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting, first I thought of that. I'll have to compare it to my riding mower.

    @summalaude4614 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    All these robot lawn mowers are still so pricey. When are they gonna reduce in price like the robot vacuums? I think for the price the LUBA would win compared to this

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will take a bit of time as the prices of robot vacuums just started being affordable the last 4 or 5 years.
      Right now this is on sale for $1899 and that is still less than many riding mowers cost. The Yuka is an incredible value and Dreame needs to take note.

    0.5 acre only? Not enough…

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sure it could do a bit more, but due to the distance limitation of lidar I would not push much beyond an acre.

    • @vertigo2893
      @vertigo2893 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamie.andrews I dont think the lidar is a limiting factor. I looked at the 3d point cloud it generated, and it mapped features 200+ meter away. Battery endurance puts a limit on what it can do, but it seems to manage up to 200m2 per hour in normal mode (havent tried efficiency mode yet, supposedly thats 30% more?). 2 hours endurance + 1 hour charging, gives ~130m2/hr. 100 is probably more realistic. Should still easily do 1/2 acre in 24 hr, or in two days if you only mow during the day. Multiply that by the number of days you can handle in-between mowing sessions and you get a respectable number.

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vertigo2893 Dreame says it is lidar limited to 70m. That might be due to the fact that there is too much of a delay for accuracy beyond 70m. I'm not really sure honestly. Much better than GPS, but there is a reason farmers use GPS on their farm equipment and not lidar.

    • @vertigo2893
      @vertigo2893 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamie.andrews Even if its 70m (certainly looks more than that on my 3d map), thats only the detection range. Which means it couldnt navigate if there is nothing to scan within 70m, not that its limited to 70m maps. It wouldnt be able to mow a 10x10m area if there is nothing to scan within 70m, but in theory it could also go for kilometers as long as there are no featureless football fields within that area. In practice, I dont know what, if any, software limit they impose.
