- Hey everyone! In this video I'll be showing you how to make an affordable dupe to the Ikea Alex drawers and Linnmon table top for only $100. All the products used are linked below. I hope you all enjoy! ♡

DESK MEASUREMENTS
Closet Shelf/Desk Top: 48"L x 16" W
5 Drawer Letterpress Cubes: 15.7"W x 15.7"L x 26.18"H(24"H without the wheels)
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DESK IS ONLY 26.18" TALL AND YOU MAY NEED TO ADD STOOL LEGS TO IT IF YOU WANT IT TO BE TALLER; ALSO THE DESK TOP IS 48 INCHES LONG SO YOU MAY WANT TO ORDER A LONGER CLOSET SHELF IF YOU NEED MORE LEG SPACE. I am 5.5 and 115 lbs and I may make these adjustments for more leg space since the drawers are not that tall.

You can also use rubber stoppers instead of glue so it's easier to move later on

That’s actually how the Ikea one works. I just bought all of my pieces from Ikea and all it has are rubber stoppers.

I absolutely love how you didn't cheapen the DIY even though you did do it on a budget. It puts value in the product you are creating vs someone who just slaps something together without thinking about the quality that most viewers want. I love this, great job!
I ended up putting a clear acrylic sheet over my vanity top to make it easier to clean when makeup gets on the white table. It also looks so pretty 😌

BaddieB Beautybox I got it right at lowes. I measured the top and then went to lowes to get a sheet cut to the right size. It cost me about $27 for the size of the top of my vanity but it has really extended the life of my vanity because without it, the makeup over time would leave stains from being spilled and some makeup doesn't always clean up right after spilling. Learned that with Anastasia dip brow and thicker consistency foundations.

I just got mine at Ikea. Currently still has the plastic covering on the table top to protect it while I wait for my marble contact paper from Amazon! It’s an affordable way to make it look stylish while protecting the surface.

I never knew Michael's had those type of products. That vanity looks great and the best part is the money you saved. I just started organizing my makeup drawers last night with trays and same very pretty glass vases I purchased at the dollar store. Hope you are enjoying your new vanity.

Thank you for posting this!! I did this!! and I loved it until my makeup collection started to grow, the drawer bottoms definitely need reinforcement. I recommend adding white caulk or glue in the grooves before you slide the bottom drawer panel in it helped me out a lot! also I used velcro to attach the "table" top to the drawers them easy to remove and easy to move :)

Poo P i bought this and its really short it’s small and its really hard to open and close because it doesn’t have the metal. I wouldn’t recommend getting also because it breaks easily and I just got it so that’s a bummer. So I just used the e6000 glue to get it to stick together. If I knew I would have just got the original bigger better one from the original website(ikea). I’m pretty sure everyone has different thoughts and feelings about it but this is my opinion

I love your video! I bought the closet shelf and will b3 taking it to a log cabin in upper Michigan. I'll assemble the vanity there. Question...I'm going to put a sort of heavy lighted makeup mirror on top. Do you think the shelf will lift if not glued down????

I love this because I have a vanity my gram gave me when I was like 20 but it's small and doesn't really match my room and I knew I could do something similar but my hubby keeps saying it's not going to look good and now I have video proof that it will look great!

I recommend everyone that’s going to do this to reinforce the drawers with another piece of wood! I just drilled holes and drilled the piece of wood in the middle for extra support. It’ll extend the life and make it more sturdy!

That’s what I’m going to do!
Yes. But for the drawer your putting on the bottom dont add the top board so when you stack the other on top it will blend in seamlessly. Then just drill them together and boom!

edit: update i made it !! i used different drawers from walmart with the same exact measurements + the board from ikea. it worked super well i love it :) i do wish it was taller though so i might get my dad to add legs

Have you had any issue with the drawer unit? The web site says they have a max load of 40lbs. Have you put more than that or are you under that limit?

Just did everything you did and I find the desk is very small. Any tips to make it taller? My mirror isn’t as big as yours
*important question* on the Michael’s website it states the dimensions as only two feet tall can you comfortably sit under the desk and are those the real dimensions

Just a quick question. A lot of people are having problems with Michael’s drawer unit over a periodic time. Do you experience this?
I built the vanity almost 3 years ago and I still haven't had any problems with the drawer unit over these 3 years. But I am not rough when using it. If a user usually pulls or closes their drawers super rough or slams/packs makeup in it to the point that it is overly stuffed, then yes it won't last because the base of the drawers is a thin piece of plywood that can't support that kind of use.
