OMG!!!! Michael Buble singing Begin The Beguine is as good as listening to Artie Shaw playing it! And THAT's SAYING SOMETHING. Go Michael.
His voice has the sounds of the forties, smooth and lilting. I think he has great talent.

For those who are complaining about the arrangement... This is not incorrectly done. It is an Artie Shaw style arrangement. It is a foxtrot tempo.
But the original tempo was a bolero/beguine. Foxtrot is the wrong tempo.
@@mylesgarcia4625 it is very common to rearrange songs in different styles and tempos. “Fly Me To The Moon,” for instance, can be sung as a swing tune or as a ballad. Both are correct. This is the great thing about jazz.

@@mylesgarcia4625 I understand that you’re concerned about the original feel of the song, but it is common and normal to charge the feel when you are performing your own arrangement. As someone who has studied jazz for over five years, I know what it’s like to hear the song performed in many ways.

Whoever arranged this needs his bottom smacked. Beguine. A subtle Caribbean rhythm. Sophisticated, many layered, regretful as the lyric. The clue's in the title. This four-square travesty child's quickstep desecrates one of the finest songs ever written by one of the greatest songwriters ever to have adorned America's pantheon. I think I'm going to be sick. Buble - how on EARTH did you let this happen?

I think it's an OK version-----however I totally love,love the very upbeat version that Engelbert Humperdinck sings in his '82 Hilton Vegas show...personally I think it's gangbusters!!! Not much intonations the way" Humpy" does them....

Michael has a sound and style unlike any other singer i know of, smooth,cool in anything he does be it a rock type song or traditional ballade, latin, etc. His voice is his gold and personality plus.

Michael B could be singing a nursery rhyme and it would be beautiful. I love all of his performances. There were a lot of great older generation singers, but he is just as good and he has a lot of good years ahead of him.

A great interpretation of a classic Cole Porter song.
Porter was a genius--as a lyricist as well as composer. He knew Wordsworth's re-definition in 1798 of poetry from the old, classical "..is an imitation of life" to "... is an expression of emotions recollected in tranquility." As such, the song is an expression of his memory AFTER the beguine--a memory that makes it more alive than ever!

This is one of the top versions and that's saying a lot. His "Sway" is terrific, too. The orchestra level is blasting a bit loud over him at times in Beguine. Frank's early version is wonderful too. Pat Boone's ain't bad either. Of course Artie Shaw orchestra is wondrous.

David Foster certainly picked a winner. I didn't think I'd like his rendition of this song but he is very talented. I'd have to say this is the greatest performance I've ever heard by Michael Buble. He has a great voice and he certainly nailed this one.

A brilliant singer on a great song.
It seems whatever Buble touches turns to gold. "Begin the Beguine" requires long seamless phrases to sing it well, and Buble pulls it off beautifully. He has a sensitive ear, and he leaves nothing to chance. The only other recording I enjoy most of this song is from Thomas Hampson's recording CD called "Night and Day" (all Cole Porter tunes). A different vocal approach entirely, but nonetheless stunning singing.

Hampson is certainly a fine operatic baritone, but he is not especially good on Great American Songbook material. Too heavy-handed.

He is actually a fantastic singer. I only wish he would do Begin the Beguine with the same arrangement Sinatra did early 40s with - I think - Axel Stordahl. Swingiest version!

This arrangement is from a musical called "Forever Swing: The Big Band Musical Revue", which my family saw in Vancouver in 1998. I'm glad I have the CD, but kinda bummed I can't find any of the other tracks online.
