    Great video, thanks. You can also tighten the handle a bit if you fit the grommet screw under the handle.

      I think I'm after that solution. For the handle I want to fix, it is the handle itself, not where it attaches to the door. The one in the video is still loose even after the fix, imo.

    it's also a good idea to add a little bit of Loctite to the screws.

    Our door handle has gone floppy on the UPVC door which means we can't open it. It locks fine but it is as good as locked anyway if you can't open it. How can we get it open to fix the problem? A locksmith just quoted £165 to replace the gear mechanism or whatever it's called. How? It's impossible to find that much money when my mortgage has just tripled and I don't have a car, holidays, tv, nothing! There has to be a way to DIY this job? Any tips would be very much appreciated.

    What size drill bit did you use to make the tiny holes?? I’ve just tried the same thinking the sharp end of the screw will make holes sadly caused a right old mess that didn’t create any holes Would you say use a drill to make a hole or use another tool to create hole before inserting the screws .

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 ปีที่แล้ว

      In another video, someone recommended using a 2mm drill bit to make a guide hole for the screws. Don't try to drive in screws without a guide hole. Screws are designed to 'grasp' the inside of a preexisting hole, not carve out a channel.

      It is much easier ti drill the enlarged hole and fit wall plugs to accommodate the loose screw.

    HOW DO YOU TIGHTEN THE ACTUAL HANDLE THATS COMONG AWAY FROM THE PLATE ON A UPVC DOOR PLEASE

    • @Darkest-Light
      @Darkest-Light ปีที่แล้ว

      You might need to replace the (wavy) washer and/or circlip retainer, I believe. Unless it's snapped clean off from the cast metal, which is usually the case with uPVC doors handles during years of exposure to harsh temperature changes coupled with frequent heavy-handed use which may warrant a total replacement of the handle assembly.

    hello from Omemee Ontario Canada
    i have a thumb latch door handle for the front door
    the bottom part of the handle is only connected to the door with a small wood screw which has come loose and wont screw in tight anymore
    would a slightly thicker screw work in the existing hole or is there a kit that can be attached from the inside

  • @redsky106
    @redsky106 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Problem is that through time those screws will still come loose just the same,,,, couldn't you use superglue

  • @davidmaxwaterman
    @davidmaxwaterman ปีที่แล้ว

    What if it is just the handle that is loose, and not the bit that attaches to the wood? Actually, the handle in your video is also still loose, imo.

    What’s stronger than this filler to use? I need something really strong

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The two part filler should be enough, but another option is to drill holes of 6mm diameter and insert 6mm wooden dowels with some wood glue. Cut off the excess and let the glue set. Then use the door handle to mark off the screw positions with a pencil, then drill 2mm diameter guide holes in the dowels.

      Toupret wood repair is good stuff except for 2 things that 2 part does better. 1. 2 part dries in 30mins, Toupret 3hrs. 2. 2 part sticks to absolutely everything, even gloss where as Toupret needs a good sanding before you put it onto anything
