Where is Queen? Queen has my top two power ballads"s, "Save Me" and "Who Wants to Live Forever" show Freddie Mercury is the greatest singer in the history of hard rock.
We need a part 2 with those honorable mentions added. This is too good to get down to just 10. There’s so many in that era but I think a second top 10 would suffice. PLEASE!!!!!🙏
Honorable Mentions: *What About Love? - Heart *I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing - Aerosmith *Bringing On The Heartbreak - Def Leppard *Here's To Us - Halestorm *Nothing Else Matters - Metallica *Wind Of Change - Scorpions
My favorites Every Rose Has It's Thorn - Poison Always - Bon Jovi November Rain - Guns N Roses No One But You (Only The Good Die Young) - Queen Love Bites - Def Leppard Alone - Heart Forever - KISS
My personal favorites: She's Gone - Steelheart Everything I do - Bryan Adams Wind of Change - Scorpions See the Lights - Simple Minds Real Life - Simple Minds
I adore most of these songs on the list. Heart's version of "Alone" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Well done WatchMjojo! More of my favorites: Heaven by Warrant Sometimes she Cries by Warrant Forever by Kiss I'll Be There for You by Bon Jovi Never Say Goodbye - Bon Jovi Close My Eyes Forever - Ozzy and Lita Ford I Remember You - Skid Row Unforgiven - Metallica I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith Angel - Aerosmith Amazing - Aerosmith Without You - Motley Crue ... And so many, many more.
Merry Christmas to Rebecca and everyone at WatchMojo. Here are some of my favorites. Led Zeppelin. Since I've been loving you. Warrant. Heaven Journey. Faithfully Nazareth. Love hurts Spiritbox. Constance Pantera. Hollow
not even an honorable mention for Silent Lucidity by Queensryche? It definitely blows anything by Poison out of the water! LOL! Great list! I loved it!
Ann Wilson kicked off Seattle Men's Chorus' holiday concert season as a guest artist for us by doing the opening number for the first concert at Benaroya Hall that season. She was just covering an old standard, but it was an electrifying experience to be on stage and back stage with such a legend.
Not a bad song, but I've never really thought of it as a ballet for some reason. Too "upbeat" maybe??? Plus it's got that weird music video with Guido the pimp and everything. . .
We Belong is better as a power ballad! I never thought of 18 and Life as a ballad! And Foreigner isn’t exactly a hard rock band! Kind of expected Nothing Else Matters, and Amanda in there
I'm not surprised the band whose name was my online handle for so many years and their ballad that has become my favourite of all time ranked as high as #2, but I wouldn't have objected to #1!
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" was originally written as the theme song for a vampire TV series that ultimately never got green lit. But the song was already finished, so they took a chance and released it. Thankfully! 🖤
I would also add the following: Angel by Judas Priest Close My Eyes Forever by Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer Here's to Us by Halestorm
“Faithfully” is Journey’s best song from their _Frontiers_ album and one of 1983’s best power ballads, but “Sweet Victory” is my favorite from 1997. What better song can round out the classic _SpongeBob SquarePants_ episode “Band Geeks”?
@@diamonddead8162True. Video is about power ballets. Purple Rain definitely fits category. But video seems to focuses more on bands than individuals. All were awesome music I grew up with & accompanied with MTV music videos.
Damn it! Every time I watch one of these lists, especially one like this of 80s ballads, I'm so much in my feels that it sucks when the video is over & I realize I'm not there anymore!
@@missmcque9756 you're not "that old" if they were selling CDs! (I just turned 45 a few days ago) It was only records & cassette tapes for me! That's the wonderful thing about music in the 80s tho... It's STILL amazing to this day & I love that so many younger people hear it & recognize that! If time travel ever becomes a thing in my lifetime, the 80s is where you'll find me!
Hey WatchMojo, you need to make a second, a third, and a fourth Top 10 Power Ballad list, ‘cause there are just too many great power ballads that you left out!
I must say that you guys nailed it with 10 amazing songs and some great honorable mentions and not one of them doesn’t belong. You could always say that it’s missing this song or that song, but you can’t say that a bad choice was made.
I agree with pretty much every one of these songs mentioned, especially Foreigner, Def Leppard, Journey, Meatloaf, etc., but Ann Wilson is in a class of her own, Ann's vocals are unmatched.
my personal favorite Power Ballads are: Unchained Melody- The Righteous Brothers Total Eclipse of The Heart- Bonnie Tyler You're The Inspiration- Chicago Foreplay/Long Time- Boston Here I Go Again-White Snake 18 & Life- Skid Row Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen Don't You Forget About Me-Simple Minds Separate Ways(Worlds Apart)-Journey I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing-Aerosmith
All the choices were close to spot on. Nothing against Ann Wilson's powerful vocals in Alone but for me Steven Tyler's vocals in Dream On are perfect. Shout out to Sebastian Bach, that man has impressive lungs for the notes he can wail out & maintain.
Personally, I prefer “I Remember You” over Skid Row’s 18 and Life. Robin Beck’s “First Time” deserves at least an honorable mention, IMO. I think Survivor also deserved a mention for either “The Search is Over” or “Ever Since The World Began”.
Bon Jovi should have been "Never Say Goodbye" because it was every single 1988's prom theme. Aerosmith should have been "Don't want to close my eyes" because that song literally saved the world from annihilation. We definitely need a part 2! Journey's "Faithfully" was spot on, though. That's still my favorite song.
My first love used to serenade me with Every Rose Has It's Thorn. That is my favorite. Unfortunately after he died I couldn't listen to it without crying...for decades. Also, The Who's Behind Blue Eyes always felt just right to me.
Give into to Me , Michael Jackson and Slash . In the Air Tonight , Phil Collins . Sailing , Rod Stewart . Eternal Flame , the Bangles . Comfortably Numb , Pink Floyd . Us and Them , Pink Floyd .
They are all on my Playlist. Honestly I almost smell the aquanet. The one the that really hits home as much today as it did in 1985 is Home Sweet Home. My mother got very ill, I was 10. I would lock myself in her room and watch MTV. I waited all summer for her to come home. This song was all over MTV. My 10 then turned 11 year old self felt like the song was talking to me. Mom never did come home she passed that September at age 28. Home Sweet Home still makes my heart ache, just a bit. I wonder what she would think of the Badest of bad boy rock bands reminding of her. Mon was a Karen Carpenter and Kenny Rogers fan. I still love her and miss her.
"I'll Be There For You" is equally great as "Bed Of Roses," and I definitely prefer "I Remember You" to "18 And Life." "Sweet Child O' Mine" (GNR) is just so good too... Now...the songs I'm missing from the list are - "Heaven" by Warrant, "Love Song" by Tesla, "Fly To The Angels" by Slaughter, "Fly High Michelle" by Enuff Z' Nuff, "Carrie" by Europe, "Is this Love" by Whitesnake, "Headed For A Heartbreak" by Winger, "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Kix, "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne, "Close My Eyes Forever" by Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford and many more!
Kinda thought Love Bites would have been number one!!! With Every Rose Has It’s Thorn at number 2, I Remember You at number 3, Alone at 4, and Angel at number 5
Love every single one of these songs... But I think Poison's selection should have been "Somethin' to Believe In"... THAT song brings tears to my eyes every time
Love the list! Heart is one of my all time favs but Steinman / Meat Loaf / Bay video collaboration…just WOW. Ya just can’t get more OTT than that, can you?
Love to Love by UFO is another powerful ballad that at least deserves an honorable mention. With Philip Mogg's vocals and Michael Schenker on lead guitar. It's a truly great song!

Carrie by Europe because it is my favorite song
Since I've been loving you. Led Zeppelin. 🥰
Where's "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne, WatchMojo?
In the meantime, Merry Christmas, WatchMojo.
Where is Queen? Queen has my top two power ballads"s, "Save Me" and "Who Wants to Live Forever" show Freddie Mercury is the greatest singer in the history of hard rock.

This is basically their second list anyway.
Ann Wilson has literally one of the best voices in the history of music
You should see her perform "Stairway To Heaven" for Led Zeppelin's Hall Of Fame induction
And perfectly suited to the power ballad!!
Grew up in the 70's, and couldn't agree more.
Well...yeah.
Absolutely, but her sister is ridiculously underrated.
Favorite power ballads:
Still Loving You - Scorpions
I Wanna Know What Love Is - Foreigner
Fly to the Angels - Slaughter
I Remember You - Skid Row
Honorable Mentions:
*What About Love? - Heart
*I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
*Bringing On The Heartbreak - Def Leppard
*Here's To Us - Halestorm
*Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
*Wind Of Change - Scorpions
Should include Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon. That's a very recent discovery for me.
This could easily be a top 20 list.
It should be, to be honest.
Yep. I'd say Def Lepard and White snake come to mind
FINALLY. A WatchMojo list that's actually accurate and worthwhile. Well done!
Man, I have to agree but Inwould have squeezed "Take my breath away"
List should have at least given an honorable mention to Love Hurts by Nazareth, I think.
No Air Supply? Nope, this list is weak
@@Aizen343You've got to be a hard rock band to put out a "power ballet". Air Supply falls a bit short of that description!
@@wallyman292 disaggree with every atom of my being. If you say Bon Jovi is heavier than Air Supply, i don't think we can have a serious conversation.
My favorites
Every Rose Has It's Thorn - Poison
Always - Bon Jovi
November Rain - Guns N Roses
No One But You (Only The Good Die Young) - Queen
Love Bites - Def Leppard
Alone - Heart
Forever - KISS
Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen.
Ann Wilson sang Stairway to Heaven and brought both Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to tears. no shit Heart is #1 on this list.
I watched that vid. Pretty moving. Ann really did the song, and the singers, justice.
My personal favorites:
She's Gone - Steelheart
Everything I do - Bryan Adams
Wind of Change - Scorpions
See the Lights - Simple Minds
Real Life - Simple Minds
Yes, She's Gone is awesome!
Definetly Faithfully from Journey and I Wanna Know What Love Is both are number One for me
“Who Wants To Live Forever” & The Show Must Go On” by Queen are my fave power ballads.
I’m not the only one who had these thoughts
I picked No One But You as my favorite Queen Power Ballad.

"Love is a Battlefield"
Pat Benatar 💥

|Kix=Dont Close Your Eyes=Classic Power Ballad!!!
Queen "Who Wants to Live Forever"? REO Speedwagon "Keep on Loving You"? Roxette "Listen to Your Heart"?
Keep on Loving You was topping the charts when I got dumped by my first love in HS. Needless to say, it got to me every time I heard it.
Celine Dion also sang Alone. Which I think is one of the best versions.
I'm not surprised the band whose name was my online handle for so many years and their ballad that has become my favourite of all time ranked as high as #2, but I wouldn't have objected to #1!
Anne Wilson, power, pure, crisp and relentless,I still play Barracuda once a week! Super Band!
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" was originally written as the theme song for a vampire TV series that ultimately never got green lit. But the song was already finished, so they took a chance and released it. Thankfully! 🖤
I would also add the following:
Angel by Judas Priest
Close My Eyes Forever by Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne
Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer
Here's to Us by Halestorm
Every song on this list is classic and brings me back to when music was king. Never tire of these songs.
“Faithfully” is Journey’s best song from their _Frontiers_ album and one of 1983’s best power ballads, but “Sweet Victory” is my favorite from 1997. What better song can round out the classic _SpongeBob SquarePants_ episode “Band Geeks”?

Here I Go Again-White Snake
18 & Life- Skid Row
Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen

Nothing Else Matters by Metallica is going on my list
I love Ann Wilson but GNR gets my vote for power ballad greatness! Great video!
"Still Loving You" has the added feature of being "haunting." Phenomenal.
.
Love the sneak in of Y&T at the end, most underrated band ever.
Personally, I prefer “I Remember You” over Skid Row’s 18 and Life.
Robin Beck’s “First Time” deserves at least an honorable mention, IMO.
I think Survivor also deserved a mention for either “The Search is Over” or “Ever Since The World Began”.
Forever....KISS.
Makes me wanna cry in nostalgia.
RIP Eric Carr
Soooooo glad WatchMojo put it's #1 as a thumbnail for this video.
I would respectfully add Babe by Styx as the ultimate proto ballad at the very least
I really like Babe, but it's almost too "soft" to be a true "power ballet" in imo. ;)

The name of the Aerosmith song you are talking about is I don’t wanna miss a thing. But agree it’s a fantastic song.

Your history of music is awesome
My first love used to serenade me with Every Rose Has It's Thorn. That is my favorite. Unfortunately after he died I couldn't listen to it without crying...for decades.
Also, The Who's Behind Blue Eyes always felt just right to me.
Good list, though I think I would have put Queensryches “silent Lucidity” in there. Maybe do a “Top 20? It’s almost impossible to pick just 10.
Awesome song! Just thinking of the poetic nature of the title itself and what its meaning may be is enough to make you stop and think.
I’ll Never Let You Go from Steelheart deserves this list more than most of them on it
AMEN!
I'm just happy you included Faithfully!!!!
This needs a part two for sure
I was just listening to Alone like an hour or two before I saw this. Freaky.
I’d argue for Tesla’s Love Song to be included 💕
Definitely need a part deux.
I was getting all fired up because they didn't even mentioned "Alone" by Heart, and then I got to nr.1. 🤩
Thx @watchmojo !
Let's be honest: Many Jim Steinman songs could dominate this list 😅 (although I appreciate the two honorable mentions)

House of Fire and It’s Me by Alice Cooper.
Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen
If I Close My Eyes Forever by Ozzy and Lita Ford
