      Most important - oval spec Indycar has about HALF of downforce less than F1 car, which also means that it makes much less drag. Combined with gearbox setup it allows Indycar to go almost 400kph despite having only half of the power (Oval spec Indycar has about 550 bhp vs 1050 bhp of F1).

    It’s amazing how much faster Indy cars are in a straight line. Overall, F1 cars are superior in handling and cornering but just don’t quite have the top speed. Much quicker too, 0-60mph in about 2 seconds. But a slight change in gearing could change that if needed. They could theoretically go 300 mph but you’d have to give up a lot of cornering speed and downforce.

    Some people seem to see the top speed as some sort of fault of F1. They don't use oval tracks, put far more emphasis on downforce (drag) and are geared differently, they don't need that top speed. An F1 could smoke an IndyCar with its power if set up correctly.

    On Saturday, 28 October 2000, during CART/Indycar qualifying at California Speedway in Fontana, Gil de Ferran set both the track record and closed course record for fastest lap at 241.428 mph (388.541 km/h). It was a Renyard chassis, Honda qualifying engine (V8 single turbo) pushing out 925+ hp and redlined at 16,000 rpm, if i remember correctly.
    You take this car vs F1, since they are closer to Apple to Apple comparison, as far as horsepower. This car would destroy anything F1 can put up against it. It averaged near 390 km/h, including turning left!! The BAR F1 salt flats was going in a straight line was only about 15kph faster, with less drag than the CART/Indycar oval package. Reports were that Gil DeFerran was around 260 mph / 418 km/h on the straights before lifting for the turns.
    Not bad for a team budget that was about 400 millions less than Ferrari or Mclaren/Mercedes at the time.
    F1 is faster on a road course all day but CART/Indycars were designed for this type of racing with their low downforce oval package.
    F1 showed this back when both raced at Montréal road course when both series had about 850 hp, F1 was 6+ seconds faster but F1 spent 400 millions MORE for the 6 seconds. I am sure if you allowed CART/Indycar such a budget back in 1997 to 2002, might have been closer but since the CART/Indycar was 700kg without the driver and F1 was 600kg with the driver, likely F1 would still be a bit faster.
    We will never know but I guess that is the fun of such SIMS.

    • @punxproductions9893
      @punxproductions9893 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re not making relevant car comparisons here.
      Your comparing a CART car of nearly 20 years ago to F1 cars of similar vintage, a comparison that is essentially meaningless today, just as this video is a simulation and not the real world.
      An accurate measure is to look at COTA for the current cars, the last time both visited the circuit was 2019, where in qualifying trim the F1 car was 13.8 seconds per lap faster for pole time vs pole time, the 2022 F1 car being 12 seconds faster to the Indy pole time of 2019, this comparison brings relevance in that while the F1 car has had a full regulatory overhaul, the Indycar is essentially identical today to the car raced in 2019.
      Further showing this simulation’s inaccuracy is the F1 car is geared in the sim to redline at 12,300rpm when it has another 2,700rpm available to the mandated redline, or 34.12rpm/kph, giving the F1 car a theoretical top speed of 439kph assuming it didn’t hybrid clip at the redline.

    The aero is the difference. F1 has way more downforce that limits top end speed but makes cornering like its on rails. Indy Car has less aero and therefore less downforce therefore higher top end speeds. The gearing is also different. These cars run on different tracks and are built to spec for their class and the tracks they race on. Its silly to compare them. F1 run on tighter tracks with more corners. So acceleration and cornering are the prize. Hence loads of down force and lower geared boxes that give max acceleration. Indy cars run on oval tracks and some normal circuits. The emphasis here is for top end speed hence it accelerates slower but hits higher speeds but on an oval track will beat an F1 due to how its setup. Its horses for courses.

    I am surprised that the F1 car wasn't faster. Being much lighter in weight for a start. The F1 car should have been overall 7 to 20 mph faster than other THING. ( indi) All i can say is they didn't have the gearbox set up right or not enough gears or both. Indi cars are usually much heavier this would cause them to be much slower although they would need a lot more power to get that 200 mph rating as a F1 car does with less power because of weight. Proberbly around 50 +kg difference.
