This was the closing track on Jeff's concept album "Time," from '81. Just a fantastic piece of work, about someone from our time, being thrust into the future! ❤
This song is from the very early 80s. What a great song. I have been a fan of ELO since the 1970s. They are progressive rock, and have so much other influences in them. Jeff Lynne did work with Roy Orbison in the supergroup, The Traveling Wilbury's, with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and George Harrison. Thanks for sharing this song reaction. Cheers, Harri! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
This album, Time, did a slow burn in my mind. I was (am) an avid ELO fan since Face The Music. Bought and loved all the 70’s releases. And then we hit 1981 and Time hits my turntable- and I didn’t listen to it again for literally years. It was that much of a departure in my mind from even Discovery. That was 1981. Fast forward to 2020. I finally gave it another spin for the first time in about 40 years. This time was different. I’ve listened to it several times since and it’s one of my favorite albums. Weird how time (!) works on you.
@@phen277 Same thing happened to me, although it's not one of my favorite ELO albums. But I did learn to love much about it, even though I still don't consider real ELO.
Yes when it first came out my first thought was oh oh what's going on here but over the years its grown on me but i had a foreboding feeling that the Time album was a harbinger of the groups end and i was right
ELO Time - my number 1 favourite album ever. First the cassette, then the record, the cd, the remastered cd, mp3 and finally an instrumental version. However the critics didn't like it. They hoped the ELO would never change
ELO charged into the 80s with another No.1 album in the UK, and a different sound. While there were orchestral strings in places, they were toned-down compared to earlier albums, and synths became more adventurous. This track on "Time" is just one example of how Jeff Lynne was able to create a memorable song across any genre he chose.
Another banger from "Time". The whole album had a 5:37 more electronic sound. A couple of rock and roll songs "Rock And Roll Is King", and "Four Little Diamonds" both pretty catchy as well.😊
Marvellous Harri. The Electric Light Orchestra are musical chameleons and "Hold on Tight" is from the phenomenal and prophetic concept album "Time" that came out in 1981. Loved "Time" then and still. Thank you. 😊👍
Oh Brandon! I love this. I often listen to ELO when I go walking and I always pick up the pace when this one comes on. Fantastic choice and great input from Harri! Thanks to both of you for a wonderful video 🌺✌️
Similar to “Don’t Bring Me Down” on the Discovery album, this song was an afterthought once the Time album was nearly wrapped up. Jeff Lynne felt an upbeat tune was needed. He created a drum loop and played all the instruments and sang all harmonies. It was essentially a solo effort.
It was a different sound for them as they no longer had the strings, it had a bit of an 80’s sound with the synthesiser’s, some people didn’t like the change of direction at the time
This and Calling America were on a best of elo disk my fam used to have, The musical differences between early and late elo I got to experience on there probably greatly influenced my music preferences today
Jeff Lynne released a solo album in 1990. Hope you get to listen to some songs from it. 9 original songs and 2 cover versions (September Song & Stormy Weather) 'Every Little Thing' was the first single released from it 😊
Not sure what that video has to do with it but who knows, it's like the old sci fi movies back in the 30s-40s which goes along with the Time concept album. Some guy wanting to be the hero and saving the girl. This is a great album.
Ahhh... the coffee generation song. ;) I enjoy thinking how much cash Jeff Lynne made from all the coffee association commercials that this song played on. When it came out coffee was losing people. I.e. people were not drinking as much coffee as they used to. And the coffee association went on a huge commercial spending spree and used this song to sell coffee again.
I agree with you Harri, this is a very non-ELO type of song but I love it. The album this song is from is probably my most played album of ELO. I remember having this on cassettes I played in the car when my two boys were young and they loved it as well. It's music that transcends time so I guess it's appropriate the album this was featured on is called "Time". Cheers from Ontario, Canada!
I think most most folks felt Jeff Lynne was a Beatles oriented musician, this song shows off his Rockabilly leanings. As a result it seems very different from much of ELO's 70s catalog. Very catchy and fun, but rarely reacted to.
Something similar to this is the song "Confusion". It has also got some of those strange sounds from a synthesizer. This one almost sound like Shakin' Stevens.
Great pic, Brandon, and yes, Harri, you nailed it, the song came out in '81. Although I disagree with you about it sounding like an early '70s tune, to me it sound like it's from '59 - '62 (minus the synth sounds, of course).
@@debbiechang5781 Oh, there are even more, Debbie. Including some greats you may not have heard before, that will be nice surprises for you, like, *"One Summer Dream",* was. :D
Actually with Harri being a Brit he’s likely recalling the early 70’s rock n roll revival period in the UK that saw lots of bands produce new stuff inspired by that music and lots of cover versions of rock n roll standards. Roy Wood got on that particular bandwagon early with The Move’s California Man, after ELO with Wizzard (his album Eddy and the Falcons is a superb example) and his solo track Forever.

Well in that thumbnail that says "I can't believe it's ELO"... that's not an ELO pic right there :) Probably a tribute band with a Jeff Lynne impersonator, definitely not ELO.

One of my favorites too and love the video that someone did where they synced up dancing from TV shows and movies to the song.

My favorite of ELO … front to back, exceptional! I use the intro to “Here Is The News” as my ringtone. 😊

It came from the Time album in 1981. I saw them in concert. Loved it.
ELO was just plain fun
The piano at the beginning makes you wanna get up & dance. 1981 for this fun song👍
Roy Orbison, precisely.
Loved them together in the Traveling Wilburys.
You can never go wrong with ELO
Great old song from 81,haven't heard it in many many years.Jeff for sure had that early 80's look.Great request and reaction!
I'm still hoping I get a chance to see this excellent band before he retires. Maybe he'll come to Bangkok. LOL
Saw them in Maine in late 70's...loved it
❤😇👍
Uncle Phil, are you in Thailand?
Unfortunately this will not happen. Jeff Lynne is about to do the last tour with his ELO around the USA this year.
Repeating the first verse in French was brilliant. 🇨🇵

Totally fooled me too.
'Time' is ground breaking. Have a listen when you get a chance Harri.
Sounds more like something from their early days with Roy Wood.
This song is from July 1981.
I guess they should sound electric given the name of the band lolz
The "electric" was there, it's the orchestra that's missing from this song, and album.
Jeff Lynne wrote many fast-tempo songs like this. You will be more acquainted with them as you are more familiar with ELO.
lol. He’s reviewed over 50 ELO songs.

So true Harri should do some research before posting videos.
