Monopoly: A situation in which a single company or group owns all or nearly all of the market for a given type of product or service. By definition, monopoly is characterized by an absence of competition, which often results in high prices and inferior products.
Not to start a pen war but I do like the layout of Google because it's neat and clean. There are just too many link and boxes and adverts on Yahoo! homepage. Just my opinion.
True; Many take (as I take it also) a monopoly arises when you have over 70% of the market irrespective of (the quality) product; and its prices are inacessible to us, since it finances itself by selling advertising and topping up in google searches, which we do not know how they are priced compared to the competition.
This is remarkable technology and I have been talking about it for nearly fifteen years. What I wonder is how many more brain tumors are we going to see. Is there going to be a way to divert radio waves perhaps to a protected area of the body? Something to minimize the damage on the cellular level?
It takes you five seconds to find a competitor to Google, that is not a monopoly, by definition. Even if you want to question this semantics, which is again the norm in economics and the social sciences broadly, it should be manifestly obvious why even if you call Google a monopoly, it's monopoly won't be characterized by higher prices and inferior products. Monopolies tend to be characterized as having higher prices and inferior products because alternative choices are inaccessible.
Google is not a monopoly by definition. You can literally find thousands of alternatives within a few button clicks. The fact Google retains the most traffic of all the search engines on the internet is irrelevant to whether or not it is a monopoly. The definition you found is a choice definition, monopoly as defined by economics historically, is when there is only one option available to consumers. Either because other options don't exist, or all other options are inaccessible to consumers.
Will this ever be integrated into actual prescription glasses? I have seen the prototype for sunglasses. Contacts will probably be another ten or fifteen years... Lol.
Emails? When this thing comes out, it won't be about emails. I can assure that gaming companies will turn this thing into another gaming platform. It will literally revolutionize gaming. Since the number of "pixels" will be actually small, it won't require fast CPU to keep up with the display. But would its CPU be able to handle the calculations? Anyway, this will revolutionize movies as well! Google, I love you! But please, if you are able of prototyping similar things, fix your translator!
Oh right. Then we're on the same boat. :) My point was simply that all companies want to be monopolies, nothing Google-specific here. It's really the government and the people's job to prevent that from happening, because, quite frankly, if you're not doing that, you're out of business.
assisted reality glasses have been around for nearly 20 years...congrats on reinventing the wheel, in fact i would go so far as to say the entire presentation was plagiarism,, with no hat tip to the previous inventors. Maybe he was just redesigning off the shelf hardware in hopes of finding new ways to polish it up...and make it more robust?
Who doesn't want to corner the market? The act of cross-marketing to users of one product to another of the same company doesn't automatically make it a monopoly. When you buy some electronics (say a DSLR) from any manufacturer, you are recommended to use only battery manufactured by the same company. Does that make it a monopoly? It's the fact that you *have* cornered market, not the intent, that makes you a monopoly. In your words, lim(businesses --> monopoly). That's why anarchy doesn't work.
So basic, cheap and simple. This could eliminate trillions of bad disigns in the larval stage. Hey all of you engineers, get this talk on your post it notes.
Is it just me or does this guy seem like he needs a hug? Oh and guess how long it too me to come up with this comment ... WRONG. It took less time than that ... Don't take my job.
thats a bit much..not that serious..to me anyway..im fine with my lap top n my cell haha..BUT....its pretty coo idea..just another example of how far a mind can travel...i proably won't eve use any of it...BUT...I Respect It
thats not true.. they are not making computers in glasses. it more like there making a very small monitor/projector with a few perks about it... gaming already has something like this that was at CES and that would be alot better for gaming that something as terrifyingly stupid as gaming with this.
You miss understood me. I also like google and think its a great company. I meant who the hell cares that, specifically, you love google. Why should I or anyone care that you like google. Whether or not you like google makes no difference to me. I was trying to sorta make a joke quoting family guy, but apparently it was not a good joke. Sorry if I offended you or anyone else. Have a nice day.

Simply mindblowing!!
good thing they did all of the rapid prototyping so Google would have that first to market advantage.
Not to start a pen war but I do like the layout of Google because it's neat and clean. There are just too many link and boxes and adverts on Yahoo! homepage. Just my opinion.
Brilliant video.
In all fairness, this is a TED talk, not a news conference.

All you need is a semi-transparent LCD glass and sensors.

Fair argument...
The problem is that you people see Google Glass as half full, but I see Google Glass as half empty.
