Thanks for the information! I have grown these for hummingbirds but they took so long to flower, the birds are usually migrated south! I like learninh that I can use the plant.
I live in a condo and randomly grew a small plant on my balcony. It’s huge now and as I got to know it I grew to love it but winter is coming and I don’t know what to do with it due to lack of experience with growing anything. I’d like to keep the main plant maybe bring it inside?
As a fellow frugal wife I grow a silver sage, rosemary, and Italian oregano which is my best grower. Hang drying has always been the best method for me except for the more moist herbs like sweet basil I dehydrate them in a dehydrator. Thanks for sharing your video I hope others see it and see hang dry is the best way in a dry warm area but not in direct sunlight
A lot of the essential oils are steaming out of the top of your infuser. Covering it immediately after your pour and making sure you get the essence off the lid greatly raises the medicinal value and flavor.
I bought pineapple sage according to the plant tag. it's a super fast grower but it smells like bubble gum. tastes like fuzzy bubble gum. What do you think it is?
Pineapple sage doesn’t smell like bubble gum. At least in my opinion. It’s a little sweet yes, but smells like sage. I’m sorry, but I’m not for certain which type it is. ☺️
@@Wildoakhollow Thank you. The plant is over two feet tall and still has that smell. Grrrrrr. Just not sure what it is but everyone that's smelled it says the same thing
I'm so inspired to grow sage now! My cousin in LA burned it when they first moved into their home and I think she still keeps it dried in a kitchen drawer. This is so informative - thank you for sharing!
I just discovered pineapple sage this spring and was surprised how thick and quick it's growing. I can't wait to harvest it. I usually do dehydrate my herbs, but I can see that this plant is best hanging. I used to use a light fixture in my kitchen that was like a large brimmed had that was full of holes. It was GREAT to use! I don't have that light anymore. I'll have to find someplace to hang them. Question though... I assume you wash them before drying?
Thank you for the video. I've been putting off harvesting because the bee's have been using it. Are the red flowers worth keeping, is there anything i can do with them?
You may use either fresh or dried. If you use fresh, break it up to expose more surface area. But either works really well. The dried herb should be green and not brown. Brown means it is old and has been exposed to sunlight. You won’t get much out it. Hope this helps! ☺️
Thank you.. I am planting one today... I will give it plenty of room as I just found out it can grow into quite a large plant. 😁🥰

The beautiful flowers from the pineapple sage are a favorite food for humming birds and bees, so leave some of them for the pollinators.
So you hang dry indoors? Tried it outside and not sure mine dried like it’s supposed to.

It's also a good idea to chop up the leaves or rub the leaves before you brew them to release more of the oils . Love herbal tea's.
Is it ok to rinse them before you set them up to dry?
Yes you can! Just pat dry and let air dry
Can you dry the Pineapple sage and make tea with the dried leaves?
Yes ma’am! I use a lot of dried herbs for tea.
@@Wildoakhollow thank you! I planted 2 and now I have so much I don’t know what to do with it for long term use.😊
@@Wildoakhollow Im new to dehydrating and put my dried leaves in a coffee mill grinder.. Does that destroy the benefits?
Thank you for this! Very educational and detailed ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! Just planted one!
Hi, are the leaves sweet as well?
Yes, like a delicate fruity flavor 😀
I dry my herbs the old school way too

TheMychan1 I use them in my tea. It tastes fantastic and will turn the tea a pinky red. ❤️
@@Wildoakhollow can the flowers be dried?
I’ve had one grow a lot bigger than 4’ in the ground. This year’s potted pineapple sage hasn’t grown 3’ even
Do you need to dry the sage to cook or make tea? Or its just optional but it can be used fresh?

I don’t hav peppermint but I have spearmint leaves. Can those substitute for peppermint?
