As a relatively new player but seasoned tac shooter fan, what I notice most is that most SLs don't seem to understand the importance of regrouping the squad before hitting objectives. Every match degenerates into a bunch of people drip feeding to the target and getting mown down. When you suggest it, you're ignored.
That's why I would always go with the SL and wait for them to plan an attack or something. Though there are a few rare cases where all of us worked together as a squad and it was beautiful.
I think its really on the squad to pay attention to their minimap and see where the SL and the rest of the squad are. Sadly, I don't think anyone actually opens their minimap these days to check that. As a SL, its like herding cats and you can only do so much to get your squadmates to follow you. I've been more ruthless lately and kicking people who wander off or solo, but when you do, you basically make another enemy on the server who holds a grudge against you for him not doing his job.
I constantly wait, the problem is you give guys directions and their mind wonders and they go into battlefield mode running down fobs and taking out tanks 2 miles away then get mad because you don't want them doing it.
"Command is a moron." - That is the most realistic thing I've heard so far. But really, the comms in this were so great, both making me laugh,a nd just clear communication. Team work makes the dream work. Excellent game, excellent vid.
Well nobody helps them most of the time, but they can help you. First of all they need to be experienced. They need good intel from squad leader and then they need to coordonates the squad on the battlefield, understand that every objectiv must be planned ahead, as it takes time to reach objectiv and respond to gunshot. A good commander should be aware of it. Even with all the above the response of the SL can be random, so they will try to coordinates 2-6 squad that are responsive. As a soldier you can help also your Squad leader to give him time to do his comm duty, bodyguard him and permit him to think, this is one of the hardest thing to do under pressure.
I'm almost always a commander and its a thankless job. The best thing you can do as commander is using the UAV and arty/air strikes as soon as they become available. Even if your team isn't listening to you, you have the ability to singlehandedly take out FOBs and their surrounding infantry with those assets. Why commanders wait to use these or rely on SL's for a command make (which they almost never do), is beyond me.

I've been feeling the same with Squad. There has been a surge in new players, and they seem to now dominate servers. Its not that I dont welcome new players, its just they dont ask about how the game works. they just go and try to kill things without playing objectives or learning strategy for countering enemy pushes, not knowing how to clear an area, etc. there needs to be some way to get people to learn the core mechanics of the game first before they jump into a live match. Once they get more hours and experience with those of us who has thousands of hours, I think we will see matches get back to the way they were in the alpha days.

as a reply to your intro; even going back to when i was playing Project Reality in 09-10, it was the same issue. I found I would have to hop around squad to squad, server to server until you find the right mix. Thats always been my issue with these sandbox type Tac-sims. When theyre good, nothing can top them, but when theyre not, theyre painfully boring. Most of the games out these days are more about the people you play with rather than the games themselves.
Wow can't believe the first game i play with karma he actually uploads it. i'm sad he left out the part at the end where I bandaged him on the roof in the final objective... :( i uploaded my pov too
Got in a game with a bunch of randoms once, took tigers, and had a convoy going around the map sweeping objectives. One of us took a rocket, and by some weird instinct, I instantly popped smokes infront of us, and we both started backing up at the same time. Zero communication other than 'I've been hit, but we're still operational.' Didn't say a word, but everyone knew how to escape a situation like that, and not throwing a fit when smoke was popped. The boys we were transporting hopped out, thanked us for the ride, and smoke cover, and took the objective with minimal casualties. All the squad lead did was approve vehicles that game, I was the one calling all of the shots in regards to troop movement, and how we should clear buildings. Sometimes I want to just be a regular soldier, but I always end up being the defacto squad leader.
Squad NEEDS to implement a player-initiated reward system like commendations seen in other games (think foxhole). This would be simple to set up and could be tied to some "progression" - for example, at the end of a round squad members can either choose to commend their SL or not. Squad leaders might get 3 commendations they can hand out to squad members, and this would be reflected on a profile somewhere (for example Player DaQuickScoppees has 560 x squad member commendations and 39 x leadership commendations. Squad leaders could also pick another SL to commend either the commander or a fellow SL. This would go a long way to encouraging co-ordination efforts and microphone use. It's not hard to incentivize good behaviour - so many games do it and it's a wonder Squad doesn't due to the cooperative nature the game is meant to have. Having said all that YES - the SLs not helping/responding/talking to other SLs has always been a problem. It's too much of a casual stepping stone and attracts too many cod players.
Started squad a few month earlier and this is what I've learned: There is a lack of SL, BUT you are responsable, everyone is. Squad leading is harduous and you need experience in the game and maps to chose where to go and where to disembark. I've automaticaly picked SL role as mostly nobody would and 20 games later i've became decent. BUT you need to inspire respect wich relates to how reasonable your orders are and also your newby player need to engage ennemy, so they tend to go rogue. At that point you need to remind them what is their role, where they should stay or move. Undersand what type of players you got. If you have two "ninja" send them on scouting duties. You got a sniper ? place him where he can have an eye on your squad. One of the best strategy to start with as a SL. Is to rush the closest point near middle and build a hab and defend it. THEY WILL COME, Defend the spawn for the team and build some defences, nobody stick around if you don't have the advantage against ennemies. I am a defensiv SL, but I have to say that if you find a good offensiv SL who make his squad follow and participate actively, then the game take an all other angle, you could end a game in 20 min, but still every engagement become so much fun and interesting as everyone is working together.
I will add that around 18pm-20pm you get the veteran's dad playing, they are mostly ex-military or police, they know how to squad lead but they got fucking family and children, so they can't really play most of the time. It's the most crowded time to play and you get the most of your games at that moments, try to join early on server wich contains them. Being a nocturnal player, I've recruited some friendly competent and nice player for a discord server and now we are a little company of 15, joining eachother and playing as a team. To have a nice game you NEED TO BE PRO-ACTIVE.
I’m fairly new but I’ve seen a lot of arguing and ranting, I was the commander and had to stop a fight between squad leaders, it make me furious because the other squads are being amazing while these squad leaders use command radio to talk to each other yelling
One of the strategy to have a good game 70% of time is to HELP THE COMMANDER. He need cover, logistics, intel... but mostly a bodyguard aware of what is happening close. That could be your role, in exchange you will learn what is happenning on a bigger scale and learn how to look at the battlefield.
Most SLs these days are still in the learning phase (including myself). I usually see only 1-2 veteran SLs per team (like Karma). Sometimes none. And in the end, it is competent SLs who win games. That's why the level of gameplay in an average match is far below what we see in Karma's Squad Ops matches where every SL and most players in general are very competent
"Squad" should add a feature whereby players who play as "FTL\SL" get XP based on time in the role, Players who have logged X hrs as an FTL\SL receive XP and gain a flag. The platoon OIC can see players who have flags and can bump or promote new SL's as they see fit. So if someone has more time as an FTL\SL they are more likely to be called upon to actually lead by the OIC. Concurrently the SL who has the most time in Role on each side *automatically* can become the commander *OIC. On the flip side if an SL does poorly (doesn't PTFO or role or use comms) in the eyes of the OIC they can be fired/demoted and lose XP. When their XP goes below a threshold they are no longer flagged for SL, until they build it back up. Also during gameplay SL's and only SL's can upvote or downvote the OIC. if the majority of SL's Downvote, the OIC loses command and the next SL with the most XP takes over command. OIC's can turn down command voluntarily if they don't want to command but lose XP until they build it up. idk.. just spitballing Ideas.
No one buys a game to be forced by someone else how to play, (role), because of some so-called reward, or anything else. Yeah, with all the stupid people in Internet gaming, that would really be fun. Also, mainly, hours do not equal knowledge(/skill), quality of a player, SL, or not, (per any game)!
I have noticed that there are a lot more communication issues recently in squad. There's also a lot of new sl and the teams never seem to work together with the commander.
Indeed, I've lost comms twice and had to do a random mic check in Steam before it miraculously sorts itself out. Not entirely unfeasible that this is occurring with a lot of people. Having said that there are some squads who simply don't talk. If anyone asks what is the plan you're met by static. Occasionally you'll meet folk who talk then the squad is instantly more effective. Far better to join a group in discord and move in from there.
543 remaining tickets :o The commander was maybe silent, but he wasn't inactive, with the usages of the Air-Sol plane & mortars he was able to use, and he has done them at good moment, has it seems he has well understand that's you're an experienced leader, and has follow the movement of your squad to plan the placement of the supports when it's necessary. After, that's right that's to have a micro as commander is highly recommended, but he wasn't as bad than that. :) He's maybe shy :p At all, you have carry the squads around you :P
My take on Squad is that with the missions being really repeatable over and over, it's ALWAYS a hot map every game. ArmA large scale operations are usually dynamic AOs across the map, sometimes there are big fights but a lot of the time people are kind of going in blind, it's not very competitive. Squad definitely added an important change to the large scale mil-sim world.
i don't know, i usually was played Smoking Rifles server, before it died, now former members of it's community found a Corrupted Infantry community and server for more competitive stuff - so i don't know, having nearly 3000 hours and enjoy game 90% of the time
I pretty much play Invasion only at this point. I still find gamemodes like RAAS fundamentally broken, having a contradicting mix of mechanics that cause stupid loophole metas. PR had a small and stable enough player-base to compensate for this, but Squad doesn't, and back during the "accessibility" phase from v10 to Fuzzhead, they made those mechanics worse, and many haven't been returned/let alone fixed and made congruent. The mod you had up a while back I think you called occupation was honestly the best, playing that, fighting over a massive objective area on the map, where actual fire and maneuver mattered, group cohesion worked, and FOBs turned into the objectives that they are but aren't currently was amazing. I have not felt like I've truely played Squad before or since playing that modded gamemode, and invasion is the closest thing to it. They could take your gamemode, scrap all of the others, and Squad would be better for it.
I agree with you, squad is in bad state right now, i love everything about this game, and all those bad things (no one wants to squad lead), its just killing joy to play.
they need to add a SL tutorial, you can only select the class once you have completed it....... could work, we notice bad SL during school holidays and steam sales
Servers that seem to have an issue with SL experience/competency are the EASY servers and a few of the "new player friendly" servers. I typically play on TT or LiQ servers and those usually have good SLs online. Baja Boys invasion is kinda 50/50.
I have 100+ hrs playing Squad. I would say a good SL makes a difference. Players should watch tutorials on how to be SL in case you are forced to be one.
I'm trying to stick to one or two good servers i know have good players in them. Also destruction game mode surprised and gave me the best game in a while few days back: We had 2 tickets left and c4 planted in the last objective and it FINALLY blew up and we won ;)
my biggest issue is guys who A. wanna be a squad leader but don't wanna be a squad leader and just fight your the whole time. B. Will ignore you an do their own thing. (A or B usually = kick for me) but then you end up with people who come from other games who don't want to be told how to play and end up joining the squad who allows it or doesn't join a squad and goes kitless.. IMO the commander is completely useless except for a few UAV feeds and artillery strikes that you hardly get. Commander needs it's own built Hab before fobs can be built with the expanded radius and rally points need to be able to be built to a basic basic basic fob with X amount of SL spawns... with the fobs being used for proper things like defense and rallys as offense. so that building makes sense. Also the commander needs to be able to disband squads, give actual commands, and if those commands are rewarded then they get support instead of a cool down.
i've had better comms in the noob friendly servers because its people actually trying to learn the game, and I often see the same vets on the server teaching people.
I think squad is a mix between people not knowing what to do and people who think they are spec ops and totally forgetting about the "fun" part of a video game. I love when there is teamwork but its so rare now, I literally only had 1 good squad in like 15 games other are just new players or just tryhards getting mad over the stupidest shit ever. Yes its a realistic game but keep in mind boys, ITS JUST A GAME. Have fun and stay cool. sorry for the bad English btw
I have the same problem with this game and post scriptum either. The best cooperation in this type of simulators was in project reality. I was witness of many situations when sq lead ask one, maybe twice every member about their mic. Someone didn’t respond? = kick
The hardest part about playing this game is understsnding all the commands. So many times during this video i had no idea what you were saying, I guess it takes experience but in the meantime i usually am totally confused during my gameplay. Is there good training servers with real classes you can participate in?
Just keep playing with good SLs. If your SL doesn't talk within the first minute of the game, leave the squad until you find one who knows what they're doing. If you can't find one, change servers. That's how I learned.
The worst is when a SL leaves or disconnects. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ARMOR OR HELI. But in my most recent matches it is mainly just the CO not leading or people locking squads and wasting assets
Yeah its been happening alot. Im not taking away from SQUAD because its an amazing game...but I wish people would communicate like I've experienced play the SOG DLC for ARMA 3.
Yeah it's about 2/3 of games where you have an SL that barely or doesn't leads OR there's no comms between squads OR bunch of blueberries get mowed down by a more veteran team. I think there's an influx of newer players, which is totally fine, but often they either don't care about the mechanics of the game or server rules (no creating squads if you do not intend to lead etc). The other third there's good comms and it's usually when the teams are more balanced with veteran/blueberries. I feel like there should be a matchmaking system between matches, but that might be frustrating when want to play with your friends.
i play on liq server and it has been a blast. I play on the noob server an i have the best results there. every now and then i will have a horrible team but other wiser still a blast

seen a lot of your content recently but this felt different. just faster. really aggressive pushing. fun to watch.
as a reply to your intro; even going back to when i was playing Project Reality in 09-10, it was the same issue.
“A lot of players don’t know what they’re doing”
*throws 3 smokes in the exact same position*
Killer lead boss. Pretty new player and would love to have an active SL like this. Dunno if I could keep up though. Haha
Wow can't believe the first game i play with karma he actually uploads it. i'm sad he left out the part at the end where I bandaged him on the roof in the final objective... :( i uploaded my pov too
AYE BUT GO TO 34:20 THAT'S ME AND WE STILL WANT OUR SANDWICHES INSURGENT BASTARDS...
Got in a game with a bunch of randoms once, took tigers, and had a convoy going around the map sweeping objectives. One of us took a rocket, and by some weird instinct, I instantly popped smokes infront of us, and we both started backing up at the same time. Zero communication other than 'I've been hit, but we're still operational.'
Didn't say a word, but everyone knew how to escape a situation like that, and not throwing a fit when smoke was popped.
BR1 is a good server. Competitive but also welcoming and friendly. Very teamwork and communication oriented.
This make me want to play Squad again. I haven't touched the game for nearly a year and I know I'll have to learn all over again. :(
You are the best squadlead I've seen in Squad in a long time...
That mosque tower play was incredible dude!
29:03 "I got a radio and a sandwich ova' here"
Dude said “he shot me in the hand” then the other guy said “just gimme the heroine” wtf I love how Karma leads.
fun run =]
This video was SUPER SICK.....I would be having fun on this game, with squad's giving you support in all locations, medaback just a TEAM
I’m fairly new but I’ve seen a lot of arguing and ranting, I was the commander and had to stop a fight between squad leaders, it make me furious because the other squads are being amazing while these squad leaders use command radio to talk to each other yelling
I used to be addicted to Project Reality few years ago. I'm glad they created a new game from it.
Karmakut : most teamwork I’ve seen
Also karmakut : 11.03 (teammate gets shoot in the leg) 🤣
11:03
One of the strategy to have a good game 70% of time is to HELP THE COMMANDER. He need cover, logistics, intel... but mostly a bodyguard aware of what is happening close. That could be your role, in exchange you will learn what is happenning on a bigger scale and learn how to look at the battlefield.
Dang that is good teamwork good job all of you 😁
Invasion is the only mode you’ll find remote cohesion of squads. Seems like there’s been a surge of new guys and they don’t know what to do.
I think if anything I'd play that ARMA game more then squad..... looking forward to more ARMA streams
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C-!!!😍 thank you 4 the video
amazing as usual - thank you K !
That mosque tower was a slaughter lmao
Most SLs these days are still in the learning phase (including myself). I usually see only 1-2 veteran SLs per team (like Karma). Sometimes none. And in the end, it is competent SLs who win games. That's why the level of gameplay in an average match is far below what we see in Karma's Squad Ops matches where every SL and most players in general are very competent
where he got shot in the tower reminds me of saving privat ryan with the sniper and tank xD
Seems legit
543 remaining tickets :o
The commander was maybe silent, but he wasn't inactive, with the usages of the Air-Sol plane & mortars he was able to use, and he has done them at good moment, has it seems he has well understand that's you're an experienced leader, and has follow the movement of your squad to plan the placement of the supports when it's necessary.
After, that's right that's to have a micro as commander is highly recommended, but he wasn't as bad than that. :) He's maybe shy :p
At all, you have carry the squads around you :P
Stop praising yourself commander!! XD
This is the exact content I came for I love it!!!
You are a solid SL, well played.
I've been watching your videos. You sir are good 👍.. keep it up.
3:42 BOOM then ad. goddamn
i don't know, i usually was played Smoking Rifles server, before it died, now former members of it's community found a Corrupted Infantry community and server for more competitive stuff - so i don't know, having nearly 3000 hours and enjoy game 90% of the time
I pretty much play Invasion only at this point.
11:01 I'm sorry, I flicked! It's OK. You only punctured one lung.
I agree with you, squad is in bad state right now, i love everything about this game, and all those bad things (no one wants to squad lead), its just killing joy to play.
That was exhausting just to watch! lol
GG's to the Sandwhich man
Good choice playing on TPG, lots of great people play there regularly. So you’re likely to have some good matches.
they need to add a SL tutorial, you can only select the class once you have completed it....... could work, we notice bad SL during school holidays and steam sales
Squad has definitely gone to the dogs since V1 in terms of people knowing how to play it properly with teamwork and communication
It takes me 10 min to find a good prof sever. A lot of new guys playing SL.
Every server I play I always take command and try my best to get some coordination with the team going
Aggressive karma is a fun karma.
Ah the sweet relief! Tomorrow i have a big exam and this is the only thing that s relaxing me! ❤💪
Servers that seem to have an issue with SL experience/competency are the EASY servers and a few of the "new player friendly" servers. I typically play on TT or LiQ servers and those usually have good SLs online. Baja Boys invasion is kinda 50/50.
Friendly fire, AD at 11:02, he shook it off.
I have 100+ hrs playing Squad. I would say a good SL makes a difference. Players should watch tutorials on how to be SL in case you are forced to be one.
I gave up on this game a while ago with SL who have no clue. Shame because it's an awesome game
squad is just more intense battlefield now.
that was a nasty flick... opee, teammate lol
as a 'new' player with around 50 hours, I've had to squad lead. basically the blind leading the blind and its sad.
All if that is an issue I've noticed unless I'm playing with friends. I learned how to play squad leader in "a trial by fire".
The guy at 18:20 had his adrenaline pumping lmao
Also the commander needs to be able to disband squads, give actual commands, and if those commands are rewarded then they get support instead of a cool down.
i've had better comms in the noob friendly servers because its people actually trying to learn the game, and I often see the same vets on the server teaching people.
i dont even own this game, but i enjoy watching these videos
Might be a good idea to make a beginners guide to squad
Karmakut being a pimp daddy at 33:54
I think squad is a mix between people not knowing what to do and people who think they are spec ops and totally forgetting about the "fun" part of a video game.
Nobody:
Karma's team: *Literally on crack*
i love how they all talk its exactly how it is playing peek a boo hahaha
Is there a way to play with you guys? Always looking for more serious players on squad
Same I’m down to play if you are been looking for people to play with
Join his discord there's a section for different games where you can try and link up with ppl
Yeah its been happening alot. Im not taking away from SQUAD because its an amazing game...but I wish people would communicate like I've experienced play the SOG DLC for ARMA 3.
In my opinion it depends on each server as im a regular player of Royal Batalion i wouldnt say there are such big issues with this !
