Hi @chrisMaherDIY Thanks for the tutorial. 2 quick questions from somebody new to this please:
    1) Can this setup be disconnected from the WiFi after programming it, and still work as a PIR sensor driven light strip with the animation settings still active? I suspect the is yes but look to the expert :)
    2) Can this system be driven in series by a PIR and an on/off master switch so I can disable the lights if needed. Thinking for a stairwell.

Hello! great video thank you... I'm currently swimming above my head trying to figure this all out as I had never even thought about programming LED strips before yesterday and have zero experience with any sort of stuff, so talk to me like i'm a fast learning child lol...
... i'm trying to program lights for a halloween prop. Think like a stargate basically. I want to use a cycling animation in the lights like its spinning up (i saw something i liked in the govee presets so figure there might be something in WLED)... I could totally use this and be done with it... BUT it would be a step up to be able to trigger it from my prop controllers. But I am just learning the terms PWM, SPI, RJ12, ect and even pretty basic with my understanding of current...
So the prop controlers generally send out 5/12/24v to turn stuff on or off. There are also DMX outputs... my current thought is that I could use the DMX, use a DMX to SPI decoder and go to this RJ12 port instead of using the button?? am I on the right path at all?
I also found this video: th-cam.com/video/nQJ4LkHcPl4/w-d-xo.html
Which is a more direct path for a switch and wondering if it could be done this way somehow.
I have subscribed to your channel and now that i'm super addicted to this LED stuff i'll prob be watching every video on your channel lol.

@@seanmcguire1453 Hi Dean, I don't have stairs but I some of my customers do and have used it. As I understand it, They put a motion sensor at the top and bottom and use the timer function of the motion sensor to turn the lights off. Each motion sensor can be configured to a differing GPIO and some have used it to make an ascending and descending effect dependent on which sensor it triggered.

    • @domesticautomationllc

Hi Ryan, there is a physical dial on the sensor you can use to adjust the "on time" from 0.3 to 5 minutes. Lets say you have an "ON Preset" and a "OFF Preset" If you set the delay dial to 5 minutes for example, it would keep the "ON Preset" for that long.

@ChrisMaherDIY This would be amazing if it could be used on a staircase. I did mine with an arduino chip and a custom board I purchased overseas years ago. Still works great. But its very dumb and motion works per each detection by the PIR sensor. Meaning if you keep passing by the top PIR sensor a few times for example, then the steps keep turning on in that direction that many times BEFORE the bottom PIR sensor gets its motion displayed in the upward direction. This causes delays and sometimes just completely wrong direction of the lights turning on (one step at a time).
If you can find a way to get this accomplished, it would be great. I would definitely switch my setup over to newer hardware like this but at the moment, seems a bit far from technical reach until I learn this more. Hope you make a video on this soon. I also agree that using an ESP32 board would probably be the way to go to test this if they support PIR sensors that is.

    Chris, or anyone
Does anyone know if there are some 3D files for enclosures for these three boards? The Controler, Motion sensor and switch?
I would like to have an enclosure for the switch that I could 3d print, but my skills with creating 3D files is sorely lacking. Tried to find some on Thingiverse but no luck.
Oh, and I'm currently setting up lighting for my Entertainment center. Two towers, with a top. I'll light up the two side display cabinets, then the top portion of each one with an open shelf. Lastly a top strip about 6 feet long to provide the wall and roof some nice indirect lighting. I have all the lights soldered up, and tested with each section on it's own segment. I hope to get it all installed this weekend.

Hi Ron, There is a video on my channel for putting the controller in a amazon sold box. However, they come with a mounting track. I only put the controller in a box if it's outdoors or in a high traffic area myself. I prefer to mount it in the track only in a hidden location whenever possible.

    • @domesticautomationllc

The sensors have a in and out RJ12, you just string them together. Each sensor has a dip switch that allows it activate GPIO 13 or 14, therefore the sensors can activate different presets.
